I Once Had A Student In My Health Classed Name-a Red Anjelo. True Story.
So today was Friday. I'm supposed to have a nice long entry about the Field Museum to regale you guys with, huh? Well I don't. I didn't get to go to the Field Museum because, long-story-short, Jimmy is a giant ass and fucked everything up. But it's kind of alright because Sam is totally awesome and kind of fixed some of the junk that Jimmy broke (like my heart). Cue the flashback music...
The original plan was to leave at 8:30am on the express train to get to Chicago by 9am. But no, we couldn't do that because Jimmy needed to work until 3pm, despite him having had three weeks to find a substitute for that day. So, for his sake, Sam and I came up with an alternate plan to wait until 4pm and take that train down to Chicago to go to the Art Institute (since the Field Museum closed at 5pm but the Art Institute actually started their free admission at that time). Although I really really REALLY wanted to go to the Field Museum, I folded because it was more convienent for people.
So Friday rolls around and Jimmy called me at 2:45pm, complaining about how he was tired and how he didn't want to go to the Art Museum and how he wouldn't be ready to go in time anyway. So as I'm listening to him bitch, I'm getting progressively angrier until, after like, ten minutes of his complaining, I got fed up and didn't want to deal with him, nor go to the Art Institute either. So I pretty much said, "Fine. We'll scrap the museums for today and just go to freaking Hooters in Fox Valley." He said that was fine and that he'd have a car to pick me up with since firstly, I didn't have one myself and secondly, I didn't want to call Sam and ask him to drive 30 minutes to pick us up to then drive us to a restaurant that was five minutes from his house.
So I'm sitting at home and Jimmy calls me like, fifteen minutes later saying that he doesn't have a car anymore because his brother took it so now we're screwed with no ride. So as he's trying to rationalize things, I (in the meantime) was so pissed that I pretty much said, "Fine" and hung up on him. I called Sam to tell him that everything was pretty much off but he didn't answer his phone so I left a message, tossed my phone on my bed and went downstairs to eat a hamburger.
Apparently as I'm downstairs eating Sam is trying to call my phone to tell me that he'd pick me up and take me to Hooters but I, of course, do not know this because I'm downstairs and my phone is on 'vibrate.' So Sam eventually calls my house and tells me to get ready because he's coming to pick me up because he made me a cake. I caved because, bottom line: I wanted cake.
As I'm getting ready to head out with Sam, Jimmy apparently rode his bike to my house to try to placate me by hanging out with me, which doesn't make any sense to me because:
A) I'm pretty angry at the moment
B) He's the one who made me angry
C) The source of my anger being in close proximity to me after recently causing said anger is not a good idea for anyone involved.
So Jimmy calls me from outside my house and is like, "Do you want to hang out?" Of course I replied that I didn't so he says, "Well come let me in anyway." I told him that I would not and that he should just go home because I didn't want to hang out with him at all. So he gets all pissy and is like, "Don't be mopey" to which my response is that there's a big difference between 'mopey' and 'angry' although I did not vocalize this statement. In case clarification is required, I was really really mad. He had, in effect, pretty much ruined my entire day up until that point.
So Jimmy leave, thus ending Part 1.
Part 2. Sam shows up and I explain Part 1 to him. We drive to Panera Bread to drink coffee and chat, which we do for, like, two hours. Then, for reasons which I can never understand, Sam drives me back to his house to pick up my Communist-themed cake which he baked himself (Hammer, Sickle, Communist lettering, red-dyed cake mix, the works) and then drives me to Andrea's house where the three of us enjoyed some cake, conversation, random insults and television until midnight. I love both Sam and Andrea. They are awesome friends.
I actually felt really bad for Andrea, though. Because she really wanted to go to the Field Museum as well. And she was the only person who had actually followed through with all of the crap that I asked people to do (like taking off work, being ready at a certain time, etc.). But we gave her some cake. I hope that made up for it.
Apparently tomorrow Chuck and Sam and I are going to have a fun day of fun, at least according to Chuck's phone explaination. If this is indeed the case, I look forward to it. I plan on holding this Jimmy grudge for a while. As people who know me may be aware, when I get mad, I like to stay mad for significant periods of time.
Side-note: Saw Batman. Loved it. Married the Joker in my mind. Loved it some more. Masturbated to it. Loved it more (if that is even possible).
Other side-note: The MCAT is freaking HARD, man.

Perhaps, things are going to the way things used to be, I could be wrong but the optimistic me is no longer duct-taped in the closet. Hooray!

Tbh, I'm finding it a little difficult to stop watching this video. Every time I'm about to close the tab I have it on, I suddenly think of the way JDM says, "I saw some Klingons walking down the street this morning," and then I just have to watch it again.
UGH I LOVE THIS WHOLE CAST.

The time has come....
I've been putting this off for a few weeks, but the time has come to replace the hard drive and RAM on my Mac Mini. I had said that I would wait til I got voted off of
laura_lims in case I fucked up the computer so badly that I couldn't make icons, but I ended up lasting longer than I usually do. I just submitted my icons for the last challenge on Wednesday, so I have no more excuses to procrastinate.
Speaking of
laura_lims , the voting for the final challenge is up, so go vote. Unlike normal lims voting, in the last challenge you just pick the icons that you like most and don't have to leave neg comments, so its not nearly as hard. :o)
But back to my computer woes, as I was backing up my files before taking everything apart, I was reminded yet again that my external hard drive not very reliable. If I try to save large amounts of files, it won't be able to copy the files over and get an error message. And then everything will go funky with the files that are already on the hard drive, like files that are in a folder will appear outside of that folder and will not open with I click on them. Or I will click on a folder and the list of files on the drive will shift and change. Or I will loose already backed up files when my new backup fails. Usually unplugging and replugging it works, but tonight, it was especially uncooperative, which is making me question whether I want this thing to serve as my back during the hard drive swap. So now I really think I need to get a new external hard drive. :-( Which means I have to spend even more money in my attempt to upgrade this computer....still cheaper than buying a whole new computer, though.
Anywho, I don't want to wait to order a new external hard drive on-line, and am now debating which one to buy. I've looked around on-line and have narrowed down my choices to two decently priced hard drives available in local stores from brands I recognize that are NOT Western Digital (that's the brand of the crappy hard drive I already have).
The Toshiba one is cheaper, but the Simple Tech one has more room and I can "grow into it" because my new internal hard drive is a 200 GB one.
Never mind, I just remembered I still have a 200 GB Hitachi External Hard Drive from the lab sitting on my dining room table under a pile of papers. Its not mine so I cant keep it, but it can serve as a temporary backup during my hard drive swap. Wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed that I don't mess up my computer so much that it is unusable. :-( I'm actually a bit nervous that I am going to screw this up. Its gonna be a lot more complicated than replacing the hard drive on my MacBook was. Not to mention that I'm also worried that I'll screw up the backup as well.

So, Leo DiCaprio wants to make another Twilight Zone movie.
According to Yahoo, that's releasing his ~inner geek. Does that make me a superhuge geek? Because I put all plans on hold whenever there's a Twilight Zone marathon and only leave the house for coffee. Other than that, my ass is parked on the couch.

- When you go to the beach, lake, or pool, are you more likely to lower yourself gradually into cold water or to take a determined plunge and get it over with? erm depends ... but I´m more the jumper ;) *lol*
- How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other tasks or ordeals? well i do it ;)
- When someone gives you flowers, are you more likely to let them turn completely brown and gross before throwing them out, or to discard them the moment they take on that sick-flower look? oh when i get one I totally let them in until they are complete wasted
- How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other gifts, purchases, or relationships?respect
- Think of your favorite movie (or a movie you really like, if you can’t think of a favorite). Some people say that the reasons you love your favorite movie are related to what you value in romantic relationships. How is this true or untrue in your case? erm untrue

-unable to go to a2 presentation, cute cousin complains a lot, wounds wounded, flies buzzing around your ears, bruises, maggots, sleeping late, somebody not texting back, restrictions.

Takes deep breath
Well, after a bit of thinking and procrastinating and forgetting, I finally told Eric yesterday that I had decided to teach a portion of the Introductory Microbiology course as he had suggested a few weeks ago to get more teaching experience.
I spoke to the lady in charge of teaching the course this morning and she gave me her tentative syllabus and briefly talked about the portion I would be responsible for teaching. She told me about all of her policies for the class, the rules she has and why she has them, but said that this is a learning experience for me and I can choose to do somethings different if I want to, but just to make sure to put it in the syllabus and tell the students EXACTLY what is expected of them upfront, or there would be hell to pay from whining, pissed off students. The class is predominately non-microbiology majors that are pre-professionals (aka heading to med school, dental school, pharmacy school, etc) and about 10% of the students are cut throat and cheaters.
I'll be teaching the 3rd part of the class from October 17 - November 7. Not quite as long as Eric had told me...he was thinking I'd be doing it for a whole month, but this is just how the classes course work is broken up. I'll be putting all the lectures together myself and have some flexibility in the exact information I want to cover, as long as I cover the required chapters. I also get to write the test all by myself. There are two sections of the class and one is during 1st period, which means it starts at frakking 7:25 in the morning. And for a late night, non-morning person like me, that's gonna suck, but I can adapt.
And since I am teaching the 3rd part of the class, I will have the opportunity to sit in on some of the classes and office hours of the main teacher so I can know what to expect when my turn comes up. Its really not as bad I was expecting. I was afraid that I would have to teach earlier in the semester and not have as much time to prepare and that it would be a longer period of time, but we shall see how it all turns out.

OMG TOMORROW!
Well, I am here! Safe and sound (and sleep deprived) in Minnesota. And still going mad from X-Files excitement. I'm still very sad I missed the premiere (not only getting to go to it, but even getting to watch the live broadcast), and now more bad news: I won't see it tomorrow until 2 PM! I know, woe is me. ;) But those extra hours are going to KILL me! There's midnight showings EVERYWHERE but I can't get anyone to go with me, and I want my first viewing to be with friends. Baaaaaah. I can make it, I can make it, I can make it. I'm going to go insane.
Also, I am going to be incredibly squeee tomorrow. Do not take it as reaction to the movie, just to the fact that it's ZOMG MOVIE DAY!
