Drabble: Baby Talk (Matt/Taylor)
So, this little Matt/Taylor popped into my head after this week's episode. There may be more because the idea of Matt and fatherhood is too cute.

Matt was sitting up in bed reading when Taylor came into the bedroom. As she readied herself for sleep she noticed him making a face.

"What are you reading?"

He held up the book so she could see, his eyes not wavering from the page.

"The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth? Where did you get that?"

"Bookstore."

Taylor shook her head, but she was more surprised than anything. She also felt a little annoyed that he'd managed to be more prepared than she had. So far she was still in something a state of shock over the pregnancy, but Matt seemed to have gotten over this stage quickly.

"What's with the face?" she asked when he grimaced again.

"I have just read the two most disturbing words in the English language... 'mucus plug'."

"Give me that." She held out her hand for the book and dumped it unceremoniously on the floor by her side of the bed.

"Seriously. I didn't need to know that."

"You're the one who bought the book."

"Did you know about the mucus plug?"

Taylor ignored him and she climbed into bed, pulling the covers over them both. Matt switched out the bedside light and settled back onto his pillow. He didn't snuggle up to her like he usually did so she nestled against him, her head on his shoulder.

"Do I need to see the mucus plug?" he asked.

Taylor sighed, then propped herself up on her elbow. "You don't need to see any of it if you don't want to."

Matt glanced at her then his eyes returned to the ceiling. "It's not that I don't want to be there, it's just no one ever said there'd be a mucus plug. I admit I skipped ahead a few chapters, but I haven't even gotten to actual baby coming out part yet. Mucus plug..."

"Will you stop saying that? I'm the one who has to go through it."

"Sorry."

He was still frowning, and she knew the phrase was repeating in his mind. She settled back onto his shoulder.

"Stop thinking about it too."

Matt finally brought his arm around her to hold her closer. "Easier said than done."

"I do want to be there, you know," he said after a long pause.

Taylor smiled to herself. "Okay."

"But when the time comes, you know, with the m–"

"Matt?"

"Yeah?"

"We have five months to prepare for this. Go to sleep."

"Okay."

Awww, this had me giggling so much. You've got their voices perfectly, and I love how you made Matt focus on the "mucus plug" bit. (I'll admit: I'm nowhere near ready for babies, and I haven't really been raised around a lot of 'em. I have no idea what a mucus plug is, and I don't really think I want to yet. xD)

Your Daddy!Mode!Matt is adorkable, too; he's still Matt, but he's got this nice paternal edge to him that just works. I really hope she decides to tell him/keep the baby/both in the show, 'cause scenes like this would be too good to pass up. <3

And on that note: great drabble to kick off the comm with. C=

. . .though, now that I'm thinking it, aren't there some cultures out there where it's tradition/considered good luck for the father to eat the placenta post-birth? (Is it horrible of me to really want to see a sequel where maybe Matt finds this out, too? C; )

Tee hee, thanks!

Yes, I wonderfed about her keeping the baby. On one hand I could understand why she wouldn't (or why the show wouldn't have it continue, in terms of a miscarriage), but on the other I want to see how Matt would deal with it. I know that's not the point of the show but I'd be quite happy to have it bubbling away as a B storyline.

Anything that gives me more Sam Jaeger onscreen is a very good thing.

ETA: I think the placenta tradition would be the end of Daddy!Matt. ;-)

Exactly - and it's not like the show doesn't already have a zillion 'n one subplots going for it, so what's one more? (That's one of the fun things about the show; yes, it's about this vision-having lawyer trying to do some good in the world, but it's also about the people who know him and things they go through as well - whether or not those things are a consequence of the visions/Eli.)

xD You're right, but it would still be hilarious. If mucus plug grosses him out, I'd hate to see what he'd do when Taylor says, "Oh, by the way - you're eating the placenta."

HAHA yeah, you're slick. You're gonna have to fight the rest of us off if you want him, though ;) Maybe we could compromise- I get Jonny Lee Miller and Matt Letscher, you can have Sam. Deal?
