I'm still very new to all of this.
Hello all. I'm extremely new to this whole elements thing, and I was wondering if anyone could clear up a couple things for me.

My main problem is that I don't know where anything is. I've been following the tutorials on here, and when it says "Go to Layer > Adjustment Layer > Selective Colour" I do that, but I don't have a selective colour option. I have a Levels, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, Gradient Map, Photo Filter, Invert, Threshold, Posterize. When it tells me "Go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen" I do, but there is no sharpen in my filter. I'm using Elements 6, so are they located somewhere else (I tried looking, but didn't find anything)? Or are they an add on or something that I have to buy/download?

So yeah. Help, please?

OK. So I decided to attmept my hand at making my own swirly textures. I looked at other tutorials but all the ones that I could find were designed with use of a "pen tool". Since I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 it doesn't work for me because as most of you know Elements doesn't have a pen tool. So I played around and this is what I came up with.

tutorial @ my graphics journal.

But this works for all types of banners. And it translates to all graphics programs. =]

I'm using this picture by the way. I just cropped the eye and did some enhancing to it and added a brush. http://i31.tinypic.com/1zgyu7b.jpg

1- Round:
-Create new layer.
-Click on the rectangle tool. Try to get as much of the banner.
-Once you have it the way you want, click on the magic wand tool. Click on the white rectangular part. Go to select to inverse (make sure you have the banner part selected in the layer panel) and click delete. Go back to the rectangle layer make the opacity to 0%. Merge.
-Save the banner to (save for web//gif).

ex:

2- Dashed:
-This is done when your banner is finished. All the layers are merged.
- Select All
-Screen capture//print screen your image. (windows= print screen; mac= shift+command+4)
- Create new banner 100x100 (or whatever your working with). Paste your screen cap. Use your arrow keys to get it to where all four sides of the dashed lines show up.
-Merge everything and save.
-To create a colored dashed; do a normal border then start from step one of the dashed tutorial and the color shows through.

ex:

3- Regular Border:
-Maker sure your finished layer is selected.
-Edit>Stroke> (settings: 1; black; inside)

ex:

4- Double Border:
1--Maker sure your finished layer is selected.
-Edit>Stroke> (settings: 3; blue; inside)
-Edit>Stroke> (settings: 1; black inside)

ex:

For more tutorials check out my journal. :D
