 | 02:59 pm - Crossing the uncanny valley of freakishness This is really cool and kind of creepy at the same time. Basically Image Metrics figured out how to make a very realistic computer animated person, without making her look like some creepy zombie (like that freakish kid in Polar Express). Perhaps its only a matter of time before they fire all the real actors and go with computer animated ones instead?

 | 02:09 pm - Anniversary 1.5 lokOne of the perks of unemployment is that when your anniversary falls on a Monday you can still drive up to Taylor's Falls, go for a paddle boat ride down the St. Croix, visit a cute little winery/vineyard, enjoy a romantic dinner in a surprisingly nice restaurant with its own secret little waterfall garden, before relaxing around a campfire only a few steps from the river with a s'more dessert.
Sure our official anniversary is January 9th, but being as we had the actual big ceremony/reception on August 11th we end up having 2 of them per year. After reading about saracura and pied_piper70 's little trek this past week I decided to steal their idea, sort of.
The paddle boat ride was really nice. It is such a pretty river. After getting back ashore we made our way up the hill to the Interstate Park campground where we were able to grab a campsite that was only a short walk through the brush to the river shore.
With our tent up we drove over to Wisconsin, and on up to the Chateau St. Croix winery. At first we weren't sure if they were open. It is this really nice dark grey stone chateau in the middle of nowhere. It was kind of creepy almost, this fancy building with its entry full of fountains and white classical style sculptures, sitting in wide open farm country like it had been dropped there from some other time and/or place. Inside though was very inviting with a small art gallery, and a bar where wach person can sample three different wines for free. By sharing we were able to each try 6 different wines that they make. I actually found a few that even I like (go figure they are their sweetest). Another couple came in while we were at the bar, and I thought I recognized them from down at the state park where they'd been asking a question about the hiking trails. Turns out it was them. They were just married and spending a short honeymoon at Taylors Falls. Eventually we bought a bottle of their Chateau Rouge along with some tasty chocolate truffles before heading out to find some dinner.
While chatting with that couple at the vineyard they said they had heard some recommendations for a place called the Dells of St. Croix. We kept an eye out for it while driving back through St. Croix Falls but saw nothing. Luckily the cashier at the Holiday Station was able to translate our meaning to being the Dalles House restaurant and gave us directions. Pulling in I was not having high hopes on the romantic dinner possibilities as we passed by the laong row of windows filled with various neon beer signs, but I continued around the corner from the "lounge" to the "restaurant". Imagine my surprise when we walked in and found the restaurant side of the building was a quaint little place with a 1930-40s vibe. The one wall was adorned with four different large oil paintings of the St. Croix river in the four seasons. The booths had etched glass images of the "Old Man of the Dalles" rock formation. The inside wall of the restaurant was all glass looking out into a beautiful private flower garden featuring a centerpiece tiered stone waterfall. They actually had a few entrees on their menu for vegetarians making Nessa happy, and tasty pop-overs with pineapple, coconut butter for a bread plate. Dinner was quite good, oh and that couple showed up a short while after us for dinner as well.
We headed back to the campground after dinner and went hiking about 3/4 of a mile along the river trail before turning back to get a campfire going where we spent most of the rest of the evening.

 | 12:58 am - Semesterferien...blah. Okay. I fried myself last semester. I jumped through my ass to study for all of the finals, which took place (six of them) one right after the other...having at most one day in between to cram (and sleep sometimes). So can anyone tell me why I have 3 months break? I would have liked to have had some of this time that I NOW have...back THEN...would have really enjoyed it. ;)
So in my post-semester sobreity (yeah, I know, I never could spell that word)...I'm working on code for an application to simulate thermodynamics and waves...
AND I'm working with good ol' Simon and Hendrik again on NP.
As I said before, Deafinition was a very concept(ish) album. We had alot of different experiences in our lives which created melancholic/down-tempo feelings. The result of that was more melancholic/down-tempo music. We love it - and still do. We're proud. But as everything normally happens, in cycles, we are realizing that our aggression - which played a substantial role in Newspeak - is coming back again. We also like this.
Other than that, not much to say tonight. Until next time...

I have to work but Dana's going with the girls if anyone wants to join him.
Also We recently went to Watkins Mill Park. I would really like to get some families together maybe have a picnic or something sometime. Its like Wheaton Park but better. It has a train, carousel, mini golf, an awesome nature center and a farm where you can feed the animals. My kids have gone twice already they love it. However its not really close to anyone I know.
