An informative post, to get things started:

Beginning today at 9 AM Eastern, I am going to be making a post here every 30 minutes for 24 hours. Ostensibly, I'm doing this for Day of Blogs, but seeing as how they've not contacted me beyond my initial registration confirmation and I'm not on the list of participating bloggers, I can't say whether this actually has anything to do with them aside from their having provided inspiration. It's not terribly important one way or the other, though.

I'm blogging today to benefit Disabled American Veterans. While I definitely think that anti-animal cruelty and child abuse are very worthy causes, I wanted to choose a charity that wasn't trendy, but rather meant something personal to me. As you all know, I'm very into Band of Brothers right now, but beyond that, I have a lot of personal military ties (My family, my husband's family, our friends.) Here's DAV's mission statement:
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust is dedicated to one, single purpose: building better lives for our nation's disabled veterans and their families. To carry out this responsibility, the Charitable Service Trust supports physical and psychological rehabilitation programs, meets the special needs of veterans with specific disabilities such as amputation and blindness, and aids and shelters homeless veterans. In addition, the Trust is a grant maker, expending more than $48.5 million in service to disabled veterans and their dependents since 1988.

It's a really good cause, a really important cause. If you're feeling generous, you can sponsor me to benefit DAV at any time over the next 24 hours.

I'll be on IM probably within the next hour or so. Thanks for all your generosity and patience throughout this endeavor of mine! ♥

Stuff and Things.

Hi!

Tonight was fun. ^_^ [info]suibhne_geilt and I headed down to the Terrace to meet up with Barry, Nataraj and Reena and hang for a bit. Apparently there was a fabulous sunset that Nataraj and his camera caught but I missed. meh. Hopefully he'll share. ^_^

Barry left when it started to drizzle and the rest of us headed down to the King of Falafel (NOM NOM NOM!) and had a lovely dinner. ^_^ I totally love that place.

Chilling is a good thing. I need to do it more often. ^_^

Last weekend, Eric and I headed down to Chicago to chill with [info]ladyhawker, Drake and Ziggy and it was equally fun! whoot! We had fabulous food (ethiopian and sushi whoot!) and hit up the Threadless store where I got a shirt I've been wanting for a while now. ^_^ (and got to see the previews for this weeks shirts before they were on the site! ^_^) and I watched Hellboy 2 the third time. #^_^# 2 more to go! ^_^V)

Tomorrow I'm heading out early to the farmer's market downtown with Bessie and then heading over to work for some overtime. We're pretty slammed and I can use the money.

AND! Tomorrow night I'm heading to [info]drakenfly and [info]obafugakum's place to celebrate their wedded bliss. ^_^ and drink their homebrew. and other people's. and just have fun seeing people I don't see unless I'm hanging out over there. (or at a con. :P)

Sunday I'm cleaning. and cleaning. and doing laundry. Also, I am up for a movie that evening if anyone wants to see anything but Dark Knight. (or other violent movies. My sadism threshold is rather low these days. :/)

Aleister is trying to hork a hairball. He woke himself up coughing. Poor guy. I really want him to just get it over with, but then I'd have to clean it up. :( I just feel bad for him. It sounds painful. Just not in my laundry, please.

I think my hair is dry enough to go to bed. (I hate it when it drips down my neck. bleah.) So I should do that. Morning comes too soon!!

****

Ooh!! I just remembered! I got my passport in the mail the other day! YAY!! It took 9 days to process it and I'll be getting my PassCard as soon as they get the kinks worked out of the production of them. ^_^ This means I can visit [info]imagocorvi!!!! *does a dance* (and any of you other international peeps looking to hang with this crazy american chick. :P I promise I have manners and I didn't vote for Bush. D:)

I decided to finally get it because I want to go to Calgary for World Fantasy 2008 in November. ^_^ (damn that's gonna be pricey! I'm working on making it worth it, though. *crosses fingers*)

****

hmmmmm... I'm sure I had more to say, but for the life of me I'm Captain Distractable today and having a hard time with too fast thoughts. *sigh* I did get a good start on the Root Mother. I'll post pictures tomorrow when I get back from work and have better light. (read: any light at all due to Middle Of The Night. :P)

Good Night!

As a Queen fan, I actually like this remake of one of their best songs. (Not too sure about the commercial itself, though...)

And this is from a combination I never quite expected. Pink is perfect to sing this song, but Beyonce and Britney Spears?! Freddie Mercury is either spinning in his grave or sitting in the Summerlands, laughing his ass off. (Personally, I think it's the latter. :D)

The Sprog has developed a love for plush toys, so naturally we introduced her to Cthulhu. They hit it off, despite Izzy's habit of chewing on the Elder God's head.

...Has it seriously been a month since I posted? D: So much going on, including back-to-back weekend trips so Izzy can see both sets of grandparents, the end of Doctor Who S4 (seriously, RTD, lay down the crack pipe), my return to gainful employment, searching for and finding decent affordable housing, and endless reruns of "Scrubs" watched during 4 am breastfeeding sessions.

In other news, a little slice of paradise can be summed up in two words: SUSHI BUFFET. With surprisingly good-quality sushi, no less! OM NOM NOM SALMON ROLLS.

One last point: Anyone on the flist thinking of going to Azkatraz 2009 in San Francisco? I am sorely tempted, seeing as Joe and I have friends in Berkeley and San Jose. LET ME KNOW, PEOPLE. Three-quarters of HP con fun is in the awesome attendees, y'know?

Eureka vs. Doctor Who

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 9:00 PM
So what does it say about me (and about tonight's episode of Doctor Who) that I was squeeing far more about the Mr. Rogers Eureka promo than the entire episode of Doctor Who? Though, to be fair, it was an awesome promo. I always loved Mr. Rogers as a kid. But I am somewhat annoyed that SciFi hasn't really aired any Eureka promos except for some that have scenes from last season. I have no idea what's going to happen in Tuesday's premiere. Have I just missed it?

Testicles doesn't rhyme with Hercules.

Steve and I went to see the Dark Knight last weekend. It was enjoyable, even if we saw it late at night (11pm - shut up, we're getting old) and he had trouble staying awake. I certainly liked it better than I liked the previous one (there was even a holy-shit-it's-not-quite-Batgirl! moment, which makes everything ten times better for me), but as I've always been a Marvel girl, I had a hard time liking it more than I liked Iron Man. Yes, Dark Knight is the better dramatic piece. Yes, the acting was better. Yes, it was prettier. But you say these things like I care. srslywoah.

Tonight, we are going to see the new X-Files movie with Matt and Serena. It will be the most awesome thing since awesome came to awesome town. I predict (and I've remained almost entirely spoiler-free just to rock it old school, so these are actual predictions) that this movie will suck ass just as much as the last one (which I loved, by the way), it will continue to flog the dead horse that it was flogging since 1999, and it will be generally terrible. But again, I don't care.

Finally, I bought Dalek a new cat toy - a mouse with fun fur feet and hands attached to an elasticized string. It is ded-of-win. srsly.

Edit: XF2 was pretty great, actually. I'm sort of shocked. I liked it better than anything from the last two seasons. Steve, typically, didn't like it. And is being very vocal about it.

This trip was just FULL OF FAIL

I cannot listen to this guy talk every day for the next four to eight years. I just can't.

You can still sponsor me for Day of Blogs, if you're interested! Even just $5 would be amazingly awesome, guys, and you get free stuff from me out of it.

Lacy and I went to the store earlier. I have Red Bull. I have lots and lots of snacks. I am totally ready to do this thing tomorrow.

Right now, I am online. I don't think I'm going to get much if any RP in tonight, but don't worry -- I'll be online from 9AM tomorrow through 9 PM Sunday. I am fairly certain I'm going to get a lot of RP done in between blog posts. Tonight, I have to prep for my posts and turn in early. But, if you need me for anything or want to chat, feel free to ping me.

So, if you can't tell, I've kinda become obsessed with The Dark Knight.

I'll probably get a review of some sort up soon, I just want to see it a second time before I do so.

Also...I'm home. Yay?

I'm also working on getting stuff made to put in my etsy shop within the next week or so. Woo!

Randolph Frederick "Randy" Pausch.
Born: October 23, 1960. Died: July 25, 2008.

And it was brillo, absolutly brillo, woohoo:)

Is there?

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 5:35 PM
Is there a community for music fans anywhere - of a specific band, type of music, or ANYTHING - that recognizes that bands change and grow? And whether you like the direction they go or not - and I don't mind people not liking it - you recognize that change is inevitable, and roll with it?

Honestly, it was bad enough with the echelon, but the TAI kids are driving me NUTS.

As I've been saying for over 2 years.... you're free to not like them anymore. That is totally your prerogative. Now move along and leave them to those of us who DO.
So, that 15-unpopular-Doctor-Who-opinions meme that's going around. I don't actually know how unpopular these particular opinions are, but nevertheless they're ones I don't see being talked about much.
