Like the header says, I've uploaded a few things recently for various things and thought I'd consolidate them here.

Dry County, Jon Bon Jovi -- This song is depressing, but not in a moany, whiny way. It takes the pain and desperation and hopelessness of the character and throws it out there with no holds barred. It usually makes me cry and feel a little more awake every time I listen to it.

Down in dry county
They're swimming in the sand
Praying for some holy water
To wash these sins from off our hands

Windows on the World, Parc & Dare Band -- Some instrumental kickassery for you. Parc & Dare are a brass band from Wales who've been around for over a century. They have a sound unlike any brass band I've ever heard, almost otherworldly. This is a very rare recording from the 2004 Nova Scotia International Tattoo I only have because I was performing there too with the Calgary Stampede Showband. It was recorded at practice before the show opened, but the quality's very good. About the song: it's a medley of three songs. The first is called Amazonia, it's brilliant and strong and bleeds energy. Rainforest is the interlude, it's a quiet French horn solo of heartbreaking purity. Last is Drums of Thunder, which will kick your ass to the battlefield and back home. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Holy Water, Big & Rich -- B&R is awesome, the end. I know a lot of people hear they're country and run away in horror, but they're missing out. This isn't my favourite song of theirs by a long shot (that would be Deadwood Mountain), but it's haunting and beautiful and sad nonetheless.

Winter, Vanessa Carlton -- I listened to this song obsessively on repeat while writing a story. It gives me goosebumps, reeks of the mystical just beyond the edge of the ordinary.

I hold my head and know the streets are mine tonight

You Can Still Be Free, Savage Garden -- I don't care if it's not cool anymore to like Savage Garden. They wrote music I like on occasion, and this is one of them. It's eerie, wistful, dark. Love it.

Nocturne, Billy Joel -- The master himself. This is an instrumental piece on the piano, but there were lyrics written for it, and they were some seriously beautiful lyrics at that. It's a pity I can't find a version with them sung.

Carry On My Wayward Son, Kansas -- Everybody knows this song but me, it seems. Absolutely kickass, holy crap. I've had it stuck in my head for hours now. Those opening bars make me completely boneless with bliss.

Too Tired to Write, ? -- And now I have a request. I love this song, but I forget who it's by, who I got it from, and only have this crappy compressed version I pulled off my mini-disc player just before the disc busticated. If any of you have watched or played any of the .hack series, you'll recognize the music from those-- they are both composed by the amazing Kajiura Yuki. ♥ It's energetic, but ethereal at the same time... hard to explain, but AWESOME.

Next up-- the soundtrack for the lovely Korean TV drama Coffee Prince. I love this drama. It's hilarious and touching and cracked-out, yet somehow the soundtrack is soft and wistful and absolutely the perfect cozy rainy-day music. I've had it on repeat for the last three days. It makes me happy, and it might just do the same for you. Highly recommended... as is everything I post here, of course, but seriously. TAKE THIS.

And lastly, a couple of my favourite HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY songs from Super Junior, a thirteen member song-and-dance-and-something-indescribable-but-awesome-nonetheless boy band. They can pretend to be angsty and dark sometimes, but they really shine when they sing unreasonably, ecstatically ebullient songs. You listen to these and if you are any less than hair-trigger suicidal, they are guaranted to make you at least laugh at how ridiculous they are. XD

Hollywood has Hans Zimmer. Tim Burton has Danny Elfman. Hayao Miyazaki has Joe Hisaishi, and I would not have it any other way.

Without further ado, I once again try a jump start of the thread and I work to enlighten the world to the amazing skill of one of my favorite composers.

If there is anyone on this thread that has never seen Princess Mononoke or Laputa: Castle In the Sky I thoroughly recommend remedying that situation. Immediately. Once you have learned to love the story you will in turn find the music much more enjoyable.

At times the strength and power of these rhythms and melodies will blow you away. There is a tremendous range to these songs as well. While Kodamas perfectly embodies a spritely kind of nature, Lady Eboshi has a calm but subtle power, you will never look at drums and percussion the same way again after listening to The Battle Drums, and if you can find me a more beautiful instrumental than Ashitaka and San I will eat my hat.

While this was written a good fifteen years before Princess Mononoke it is clear that while Joe Hisaishi learned a lot, he had an amazingly solid background. Laputa has more energy in most cases, but his ability to take a string of notes and use them throughout the entire album is genius. I often find myself humming snippets from this album because they are so deep within my head. There have been many re-writings of the score, this is (I believe) the original.

Hey guys!

I haven't forgotten about this poor little comm, despite appearances. I was just in a panic over schoolwork, as most of you already know. Now that I've ~~failed~~ ~~been rejected~~ screwed myself over for the fall semester by procrastinating horribly, I have plenty of time. ^____^

Daniel Huezo is a 22-year-old musician from El Salvador who now makes his home in Toronto. Trained in Latin American folklorico musical traditions, Daniel started playing with Xolotl, El Salvador's premier folklore ensemble, at the tender age of sixteen. More recently, he has become known to Canadian festival aficionados as a member of Nacascol, Uru and Grupo Raymi. Daniel's debut solo album for AVA, Comienzos (Beginnings), features classic traditional and folklore songs from El Salvador, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Daniel sings and plays most of the instruments himself, from guitar and quena to charango and cuatro. Comienzos introduces Canadian audiences to Latin American classics that are still relatively unknown in North America, from the joyous cumbias "La traviesa" and "Moliendo cafe" to the touching Salvadorean ballad "Regalo para un nino." Beautifully performed and richly textured, Comienzos is a truly timeless recording, establishing Daniel as one of Toronto's foremost acoustic artists.

He's so obscure that I couldn't even find an image of his album cover on Google, Amazon, or anywhere else. ^___^;; It's a pity, since in my opinion he is A+. ♥

Saltimbanco -from the Italian "saltare in banco", which literally means "to jump on a bench"-explores the urban experience in all its myriad forms: the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and likenesses, families and groups, the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers. Between whirlwind and lull, prowess and poetry, Saltimbanco takes spectators on an allegorical and acrobatic journey into the heart of the city.

Cirque du Soleil's oldest touring shows, and one of my favourite soundtracks of all time. You can get a good idea of how culturally far-ranging and flexible it is by looking at the titles of the songs-- you have Italian and French nestled side by side with an African dialect and something I suspect is Sanskrit. There are lots and LOTS of drums and jungle sounds. It really takes you on a journey. Highly recommended.

Give it 12 months and you might be taking out a restraining order--Mika will split opinion--but his quasi-soul falsetto is unbelievable, that much is immediately obvious. There are moments nearing syrupy Feeling-esque normalcy (take "My Interpretation"), but those aside it’s high camp insatiability all the way. There’s a hint of Freddie Mercury’s theatricality in the voice, and in "Big Girl" he's even written a modern day "Fat Bottomed Girls". "Lollipop" is Jake Shears leading the Jackson 5, "Love Today" is the missing link between the Bee Gees and Village People and "Relax, Take It Easy" is a chilled Pet Shop Boys in gold lamé. Too cheesy to be a classic, perhaps, but this is just the brand of subversive eccentricity Robbie has failed miserably to achieve over his past few albums. --James Berry

I discovered them more recently, but I've come to love them almost as much as Kagrra, who are the love of my Jrock life. They cover many different styles (bonus points!) and pull off whatever they set their mind too (double points!). Awesome, awesome stuff. Do yourself a favour and download this one. ♥

Andy Partridge - I Wonder Why the Wonderfalls -- I got this song from botling as a character song for Wonderwyce, and instantly fell in love with it. What he does with the chord arrangements is very... bizarre, but very cool.

Mr.Children - HERO (live) -- Got this one from ronsard, and it's been on repeat along with about five other songs for over a week now. So, so beautiful. If you only take one thing out of this entire post, TAKE THIS SONG. ♥

Bryan Adams & Sarah McLachlan - Don't Let Go -- This is from the Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron OST, and is one of the prettiest love ballads I've ever heard. Duets written by Hans Zimmer ftw! :D

Now, I know not everyone likes musicals... but this isn't the music of a classic musical.

Spring Awakening just won several Tony Awards (The Oscars of theater) for it's daring story, design and music.

*please note- just as the album cover says, this is considered adult material*

The story is about teenagers trying to figure out what the hell is going on in their life in 18th century Germany, where no one is willing to tell them anything, and they aren't willing to talk. These life lessons mean sex, love, relations (both good and bad), and the world. (If you wish to read the story you may do so here, there are spoilers.)

I also suggest reading the lyrics, all of which can be found here.

As for the music, it ranges from pop songs about being in love/being horny (The Bitch of Living, My Junk, Totally Fucked), to ballads of sadness (Mamma Who Bore Me, Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind), emotional songs of hope and destruction (The Dark I Know Well, Whispering, Those You've Known, Left Behind, The Song of Purple Summer).

I will not gloss over that some of these songs are about suicide, being gay, sex, rebellion, death, masturbation, and even rape. However, they are excellent pieces of music with tremendous power, made possible by the extraordinary vocal performances of actors and actresses all under twenty-five.

Some samples are Mamma Who Bore Me, The Bitch of Living, My Junk (you can hear bits of Totally Fucked), and Touch Me. All the clips are on YouTube, I tried to vary them. Also, these are all live performances, they sound much more polished on the cd.

Bedingfield was born in Lewisham, England to New Zealand-born Molly and John Bedingfield (charity workers). She has three siblings; an older brother Daniel and a younger sister Nikola, who are both pop singers, and a younger brother, Joshua. Bedingfield grew up in the south-east London borough of Lewisham, moving there as a child. As a teenager, Bedingfield and her siblings, Daniel and Nikola, formed the Christian rock group, The DNA Algorithm. Her interest in music was encouraged by her parents and growing up she also took guitar and piano lessons.

Bedingfield attended a year at the University of Greenwich, where she studied psychology. Commenting on her choice of study, Bedingfield said: "I was interested in psychology because I knew that'd make me a better songwriter. It'd give me a deeper insight into people." After a year of studying psychology, Bedingfield left university to concentrate on singing and songwriting. She began to record demos in the garages of friends who had recording studios, which she eventually took to record companies.

Which tells you basically nothing about her music. She's Brit-pop, but fun and positive. I never fail to feel better whenever I listen to her.

Composed by Hans Zimmer, the score for The Last Samurai makes use of traditional Japanese instrumentation and compositional techniques, as well as the Western equivalent. The Taiko drum features prominently in the action cues. Vocal shouts and chants are featured in the "Red Warrior" cue. The score was nominated for several awards, including a Golden Globe (Best Original Score), and won an ASCAP award.

These guys don't have a Wiki article. O____O Anyway, they remind me at times of Staind, at times of Linkin Park, but they're growing into their own sound. They recorded this album themselves in their basement. They did everything for this album themselves. When the record company came along, all they did was remaster the album and release it basically as-is. It's dark, but not really depressing-- just honest, and a bit melancholy. No Giving Up is (along with Cold) probably my favourite track on this album-- it's dark and raunchy, but its message is powerfully positive. ♥ I like these guys. They're worth a download. ^__^

Again, no wiki article... no article at all, really. This guy is rather on the obscure side. It's a pity, because he's lovely. He plays, as the title suggests, the wooden flute, and plays it very, very well. This album is a collection of Celtic folk songs, played in a light and dreamy style that brings to mind fairies dancing in the woods. Perfect lazy summer afternoon music. ♥

Noir Desir - Des visages des figures

The band was founded in Bordeaux, in 1985 by singer Bertrand Cantat, drummer Denis Barthe, guitarist Serge Teyssot-Gay and bassist Frédéric Vidalenc (replaced in 1996 by Jean-Paul Roy). Over the years, they became famous in France, releasing albums every few years.

In 2003, Bertrand Cantat beat his girlfriend Marie Trintignant unconscious during an argument in a hotel room in Lithuania. She died a few days later. McKennitt's music has generally been classified as World / New Age / Celtic music even though it contains aspects and characteristics of music from around the globe and is sometimes classified as Folk music in record stores.

Before McKennitt composes any music she engages in considerable research on a specific subject which then forms the general concept of the album. Before creating Elemental and Parallel Dreams she traveled to Ireland for inspiration from the country's history, folklore, geography and culture. The album The Mask and Mirror was preceded by research in Spain where she engaged in studying Galicia, a Celtic section of Spain, along with its abundant Arabic roots, thus creating an album including elements of Celtic and Arabic music.

According to the notes of her latest album, An Ancient Muse was inspired primarily by travels among and reading about the various cultures along the Silk Road.

McKennitt is often compared to Enya but her music is more grounded in traditional and classical invocations using literary works as sources of lyrics and springboards for interpretation such as The Lady of Shalott by Lord Tennyson, Prospero's Speech (the final soliloquy in William Shakespeare's The Tempest), Snow by Archibald Lampman, William Blake's Lullaby and The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes.

She's Canadian and her music is hypnotizing and pretty. Anything else I might have said has already been covered. ♥

Wiki proved quite useless about this one, simply by dint of sheer overinformation. ^___^;; If you don't know Paul Simon (~~how could you not?~~) he was once half of the oldies duo Simon & Garfunkel. His music is really hard to describe, because it's really, really unique and he switches up his style a lot, but I suppose it's a sort of soft rock... which sounds completely wrong. >___< He recorded this album in collaboration with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and it focuses a lot on African folk-sounds even in songs that have nothing to do with Africa persay. It's beautiful, beautiful stuff, absolutely recommended 100%. ♥♥♥

Hoobastank formed in the Los Angeles County suburb Agoura Hills in 1994. According to drummer Chris Hesse, vocalist Doug Robb had known guitarist Dan Estrin for some time before competing against him in a high school battle of the bands competition and subsequently, they decided to form a band.[1] They then recruited Markku Lappalainen and Hesse to form Hoobastank, which at the time was spelled Hoobustank (pronounced the same way as "Hoobastank"). In an interview with Launch Yahoo!, Doug Robb said the name had no particular meaning: "You're going to ask me what it means. It doesn't mean anything. And it's really cool, it's one of those old high school inside-joke words that didn't really mean anything."[2] Rob Bourdon, Mike Shinoda, and Brad Delson of Linkin Park attended the same high school, Agoura High School, as the members of Hoobastank.

...That high school must have been the Cradle of Emo. XD

Nevertheless, I kind of like them, and they're certainly great for days when I'm all D: D: D: at the world in general. Doug's ~~face~~ voice is pretty and lends itself to this style of music very well.

Kagrra, has a defining traditional Japanese feel to their music and costumes that distinguishes them from the myriad of Japanese visual kei bands.

Aside from that, THEY ROCK. Seriously. They are hands down my favourite J-Rock band ever, and this album is made of keysmash start to finish. Those of you who follow my personal journal might remember a few weeks ago where I shoved Utakata down your throats with manic passion-- I'm going to do it again here, sorry. Utakata makes me cry every time I listen to it, and definitely not in the bad way. It's beautiful. Sakebi rocks hardcore as well, and Shizuku... those are my favourites, but the whole album is composed of SEX and GOD. Please to be downloading this one if it's the only one you have time for. ♥ LOVE LOVE LOVE

I'm too tired to do so, but believe me when I say that this is a gorgeous, gorgeous collection of music and that you should definitely give it a listen. ♥

I listened to this for a full year when I went through a period of depression. Her voice is so honest and clear. Sometimes goofy. It's a bare and gorgeous album with bits of lyrical absurdity thrown in. Lots of piano. I love it.

Shikao Suga (菅止戈男, born: July 28, 1966) is a Japanese musician and singer-songwriter from Tokyo. Debuting with a major label EP album release in 1997, his J-Pop music has funk and soul influence, coupled with beautiful and moving lyrics. Currently he is hosting a radio program called "Night Stories Monday" on J-Wave radio station which is downloadable as a podcast.

Blue Man Group (Blue Man, BMG) is a creative organization founded by Phil Stanton, Chris Wink, and Matt Goldman; it is centered on a trio of mute performers, called Blue Men, who present themselves in blue grease paint, latex bald caps, and black clothing. Blue Man Group's theatrical acts incorporate rock music (with an emphasis on percussion), odd props, audience participation, sophisticated lighting, and large amounts of paper. It is also noted for having a "poncho section" of the audience; in the front rows, audience members are provided with plastic ponchos in order to protect them from various foods, substances, paints, and so on, which get thrown, ejected, or sprayed from the stage. Much of the humor breaks the fourth wall, for example, interrupting the show to ridicule latecomers in the audience.

This recording is not a soundtrack, but rather an entirely new audio-only compilation using new instruments. You don't have to watch their show for it to make sense.

Andrew Bird (born July 11, 1973) is an American musician, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He was born in Illinois and resides in northwest Illinois on a farm in the town of Elizabeth. His musical proficiency includes violin, whistling, guitar, and glockenspiel.

Trained in the Suzuki method from a young age, Bird graduated from Illinois' Northwestern University with a bachelor's degree in violin performance. He released his first solo album, Music of Hair, in 1996. Vastly different from his later releases, this first album showcases his violin skills and pays tribute to his fascination with both American and European folk traditions, as well as jazz and blues.

His initial commercial exposure was in collaborative work with the band Squirrel Nut Zippers. He quickly was associated with the swing revival that swept the US music industry in the mid '90s, an affiliation that he is still working to shed.

Kodō (鼓童, Kodō) is one of the elite taiko drumming groups today. Based in Sado Island, Japan, they have been a major force in the post-World War II revitalization of taiko drumming, both in Japan and abroad. They regularly tour Japan, Europe, and the United States.

Although the main focus of the performance is taiko drumming, other traditional Japanese musical instruments such as fue and shamisen make an appearance on stage as do traditional dance and vocal performance. Kodo's performance include pieces based on the traditional rhythms of regional Japan, pieces composed for Kodo by contemporary songwriters, and pieces written by Kodo members themselves. The numbers that Kodo perform can change from concert to concert. Kodo's performance normally lasts for about one hour and forty minutes.

In Japanese the word "Kodo" conveys two meanings: "heartbeat" the primal source of all rhythm and, read in a different way, the word can mean "children of the drum," a reflection of Kodo's desire to play their drums simply, with the heart of a child.

The opening lines of the track Come And Get It are "Pherto - Parte to" (φέρτο - πάρτε το) translating as "surrender - come and get it". It is said that Leonidas exclaimed Molōn labe! (Μολὼν λαβέ) when asked by Xerxes to surrender. The opening words of Returns A King translate as "I am trembling / I am frightened of / Our returned king".

It is big. It is manly. There is much orchestral whaling-on. Good for an instant shot of testosterone. XD

I made this community as a place to store all the random music I upload for various places. There are no genre rules here-- everything from classical to Gregorian chants to J-rock to metal to Celtic fiddle music is accepted here. I'll certainly run the gamut even if you don't.

I only upload to MegaUpload. The others annoy me. However, if you really want something I've uploaded and MU doesn't work for you, let me know. I'm nice. I'll do SendSpace or YouSendIt if it'll make you happy.

One of my favourite artists of all time. His music has a very lyrical, magical folk feel to them that I adore.

Akeboshi was born in 1978 in Yokohama. He learned to play the piano when he was three years old, later learning to play the guitar. He studied music in Liverpool, and his time there has heavily influenced his music. Akeboshi's songs are mainly sung in Japanese, but there are some notable songs that are sung in English, such as 'Night and day', 'Money', and 'Wind'. Another thing of note about Akeboshi's music is that he rarely uses the basic 4/4 time signature. 'Wind' and 'Kamisama no Shitauchi' for example, are both written in 5/8. (Yay Wiki.)

One hundred percent recommended.
