Cyber-Lolita---Can it be Done?
I've become a big fan of cyberlox and raver goggles, and I was wondering if they can be loliable at all. I thought since  there was decora lolita, steampunk, and even pirates, that there is room for cyber. What do you guys think about cyber-loli? Can some of it be incorporated? I have read through past entries, but I want more of an "updated" opinion.

Some pics that might help:

CYBER LOX / DREAD FALLS: 1 2

GOGGLES: 1 2

(I'm not too sure about the legwarmers, however...they're cute though)

if done veeery carefully(and you'll likely get flamed for this post), i think cyberloli is possible and adorable. as to legwarmers, if they're not those furry ones, they can be used! after all, putumayo has several punk loli skirts that incorporate them. you could go for a sweet cyber using all pink and white and silver, or maybe a darker version with black and some bright color like green or blue. just keep the makeup a little more low-keyed, too...

That's what I was thinking! Nothing to overshadow lolita, but enough to know that there is some cyber in there! Thanks for the input!

I think any attempts for far come out as a neon colored candy goth with no hope of belonging in the loli family...

It just doesn't seem right. Lolita glances at elegance and beauty of the past, and cyber looks towards the future. You could try incorporating hair styles and accessories and see what happens though.

"Lolita glances at elegance and beauty of the past, and cyber looks towards the future."

I have a friend that pulls this off beautifully.(Hope it's ok with her that I mention her here.)I don't know what to even call her personal style. But she combines old fashioned styles with the more future styles perfectly, and it totally works in my opinion. She also looks AMAZING when she dresses in Lolita....AMAZING. I couldn't find a picture of her in full Lolita..but to give you an idea ^_^

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2qlv1xe&s=4

She actually has her own line. The online shop is closed atm but I have seen a few things of hers that can be combined very nicely with Gothic Lolita styles. (blouses and accessories for sure.)

http://www.apatico.net/

I think that you are better off not trying to put a name on it and just trying to be creative with your Lolita style. You can always ask opinions on it once it is completed.

*edited. Sorry, I didn't realize that pic was so huge so I re-posted:)

I think cyber loli is awesome and should totally be done!

I was thinking tastefully coloured synthetic dreads with something like AP's neon cupcake jsks.

I actually wear dreads with h naoto for a industrial cyber lolita look :3

I really think you could do it! Like randomisgemini said, something sweet and cyber--I'm thinking pink and black. Start with a loli base and incorporate cyber bit by bit. Do share pics if you try it!

There was an interesting discussion about cyber lolita here: http://forums.vivcore.com/showthread.php?t=2075&highlight=cyber

The general concensus was that Cyber Lolita would be a kind of steampunk, taking the classic elegance of loli mixed with the technical modern elements...

I'd love to have a go at a cyberized Lolita outfit, I think it would be fun to make and wear, but maybe not a true Lolita style and it would probably get flamed sadly /:

Hmmm.... all sorts of ideas in my head now... silver fabric aged/frayed and edged with antique lace? Hehe, like I said - fun but maybe not actually Lolita.

yeah i think this could be done and would look great!
after all - who says you have to follow the fashoin exactly - if you like cyber, incorporate it into lolita, make it your own!

I think that sounds like a really cute idea, I've seen it done very nicely before! I would try to make the cyber a little lesser and try to make the lolita come out more. :D

i'm pretty sure you could mix the two and make something amazing out of it, but then i doubt i could call it loli. lolita and cyber inspired, yes, maybe lolita inspired cyber, but probably not cyber inspired loli. know what i mean?

I think it could be done. I've seen attempts, but they lost the lolita magic.
It'd have to be planned carefully, I'd start with a lolita base. I think most attempts start with the cyber base.
Also, adding very sweet things could help. Like accenting a goggle with lace ((if you do it right)) would probably actually be cute if done right.

I think it could be done, but it borders the line of fail and win very cautiously.

As long as you think Lolita first, cyber second, then you should be good.

Not nearly as ridiculous Boholita.

I think it mainly has to do with color palette.I've seen Decora-Lolita easily branch off into candy rave territory. I would just be very careful about the colors and materials. I've seen lovely sets of pastel cyberlox (I wish I'd bought them!!) that would easily coordinate with the wild colors and patterns of Angelic Pretty.

I'd also be mindful of the silhouette. A bell-shaped skirt, but I also think Lolita can be characterized by slender ankles; the proportions of the slim legs in comparison to the full skirt. Heavily flared legwarmers might somewhat skew the silhouette.

I also would say avoid fur; white or black might be fine, but colored fur just screetches club kid to me, and might overpower the Lolita idea.

Please take my cautions with a grain of salt. I LOVE the idea of Cyber-Loli, but it's so often done wrong; I really, really want to see one success out of it!

I just wanted to post this for fun XD Its SO FAR from actually being Lolita, but whenever someone mentions "cyber Lolita" I always think of this:

This was my costume for a play called "Return to the Forbidden Planet"... whenever I imagine "cyber lolita" I think of a girl wearing a more cupcake shaped skirt like that one and with a similar crazy hairstyle XD

I think that Cyber Lolita could be done if you seriously study both cultures and fashion. if the Cyber elements come from more Cyber-Victorian styles I think it would work better the full out Cyber. I have worn goggles with lolita but it was for a Steampunk lolita outfit.

I'm going to caution you about cyber-loli. Lots of cybers are hardcore music-people, like punk, goth, or metal. If you are not a music person, and you dress in cyber-something, they may just kick your ass.

I'd love to see cyber-loli looks, especially with a lot of the outrageous shit AP is putting out, like the colored wigs and the radioactive cupcake dress. But I'd think you'd always end up being more cyber than loli.

It's not so much an issue of other people telling you whether you can do it, as the fact that I've yet to see it done remotely well. Then again, with the crazy decora AP route that lolita's going, I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I've been wanting to do cyber lolita for years now, but I've yet to get around to doing so.

Something awesome for cyber lolita could be a Dane style-d cutsew, with a corset drawn in their wire-frame style. Lotta work though. :x

Is it just me or does no one else really get all these new random fashion names? If you wanna dress in a certain way dress that way, who gives a crap about the name >_< Make your own style, who cares if it fits in with lolita?

It's like with music genres, there's /always/ some new type of metal banging about >_< Like pirate metal, coz you know it's so different and just breaks the boundaries, it doesn't sound /anything/ like folk metal at all.

Mlurgh.

i agree to a certain extent. with fashion, i tend to combine styles since i like so many, as long as it looks good, and when people ask me to label it (what is that style you're wearing? goth?) i usually fail to come up with a good answer, aside from "me". Wear what you want as long as it looks good is my opinion =)
