Shoe Dilemma
I am lucky enough to be able to wear lolita to work. However, I am required to have steel-toe safety shoes on hand, in case I go into in some areas of the building where they are required. There are, of course, no steel-toe lolita shoes. So I'm searching for some steel-toe Mary Janes.

The problem is, they don't even make women's safety shoes that look like women's shoes. If I wanted men's shoes, I'd buy men's! I may end up going with something like these Doc Martins, but I'd really kill for some Mary Janes.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Has anyone found a solution?

(Note: I'm totally writing some safety shoe companies to complain.)

although fashion is important, you can't beat safety!

something punk, like boots, could be cute.

I have t-bone doc martins and wear them with lolita sometimes they look like this

http://www.cloggs.co.uk/invt/651

Well, they actually look better in real life. They're not steel toe, but they're /really/ hard on the toe, like my 200 pound brother stood on them(don't ask why) and didn't make a dent or touch my toes.

They're also uber comfy and last forever under all conditions. I luff them ^_^

Can't help other then that though =/

Those aren't bad. I'll add them to my possibilities list.

Have you thought about buying some and taking them to the cobblers to have steel toe caps put in? If they're something like doc martins I'd imagine they could do it quite easily.

Horse riding boots, maybe? The good brands are always steel toed. You can find a pretty wide variety of styles too, from ankle length to lace-up.

I think safety here is directly more important than fashion. If you're working someplace, and they require safety boots, it's for a reason. If you think about it, I'm not sure there's a way that a mary jane style shoe could meet the same safety requirements as a pair of boots. There's nothing covering the top of your foot, just your toe area.

That said, I'm totally a proponent of more punk, so how about some classic doc martens?

I second this. I think the original Docs style would look cute.

Unfortunately I don't seem them making mary jane style steel caps... the whole point of safety shoes is to protect your foot, so if there's a huge open section on top that anything could fall on/in and hurt your foot it wouldn't make sense to even have safety shoes.

Those docs are pretty cute though I think.

I think that safety is more important than fashion in this case; a Mary Jane would not cover the entire foot, so you'd be putting your own foot-safety at risk!

However, I think you could still rock a pair of Docs or something quite easily! =D

I think the closest you'll get is white work boots. I have seen pink TUKs, Docs, and one other I can't reall off hand. But I used to work construction and a friend is in an all girl construction company so I know that girly steel toes are out there.

Tacky though it might be, I've always been a huge fan of a cute frilly skirt combined with those huge black army boots.

I dunno, I'd just wear something practical, and save your perfect coordinates for other situations :D

I have these: http://pupe.jp/item/z_bwWqcUcZMc/
But they aren't steel toed, just really hard.

You won't find any mary janes with steel toes because the open top would defeat the purpose of them being safety shoes. I'd advise getting some 15 or 20 hole plain coloured steel toe boots, replacing the laces with ribbon and putting some bow shoe clips on them if you really want pretty ones.

I agree I'd just go with some steel toed boots in an unusual colour like pink or white. Safety is the important thing here. It doesn't sound like you'll need to wear them all day from your description, so just go with a very practical style shoe in a nice colour.

Look at Sketchers, I know that they have a work collection, so they might have some steel toed shoes.

Might just be so they are "all purpose", mary janes would be cute, but some thing could still easily puncture or burn the exposed part of your foot...sort of defeats the steel toe.

the high patrol(?) boots they issue to policemen and paramedics are fairly nice as they're steel capped but fabric rather than leather.

TBH I really don't see a problem - there isn't going to be any cute steel toed shoes, we all know that. Just have your cute shoes and keep a pair of safety boots at work for when you go into those areas. No one is going to care if you're in a big frilly dress and non matching boots if they're a required safety precaution
