Can this be loliable?
Hello, I am pretty new to Lolita, so I was wondering if you guys can help me out. The other day on my poupeegirl account, someone commented on how my spring dress can also be a JSK.

I beaded pearls on the lace part on top. Here's a picture my boyfriend took of me with a blouse and petticoat underneath the dress.

Please excuse the lighting, it was taken at night and shoes... I haven't gotten any yet. Any suggestions for hair accessories? I'm not really fond of the head eating bow. Oh and do you think the print is definitely not loliable?

Thanks for looking!

i actually think it looks really nice, it couldn't really be too sweet or too countryish...maybe try a straw minihat with maybe a cream/off white ribbon to match the white of the dress? but yeah i definately think it works

I think it works well. I would try to find a blouse that matches either the cream or the dark blue...or maybe even the green in the dress. I would use cream-coloured socks and shoes, and for a hairpiece.... I think that shade of orange is trendy right now; I have seen it on a few accessories at stores like Forever 21. If you could find a headband or Alice bow in that colour, it would be AWESOME. If not, I'd go with a cream-coloured Alice bow. Y'know, a small one, since you dislike huge bows. The straw hat + coordinating ribbon is a great idea, too!

The pattern is certainly unique, but I do think the dress is loliable! You look so cute.

Thanks! :) Do you think just a colored ribbon is ok? Not sure if I want to go with a headband full of bows.

That would be nice, too! Actually, I was going to recommend a simple headband or ribbon to match one of the brighter shades in the pattern. You're thinking in the right direction!

Emily Temple cute feel? lol. Maybe this size of the dress helps. http://pupe.jp/image/item/l/UwuOv7OS0gpZ.jpg I do agree though, it looks kind of country-ish.

Ohhhmygosh. Daisies! There are daisies in that pattern! Dude, this is inspiring. You could probably find an orange or yellow rose (or tropical flower) hair ornament to match those big flowers in the center of the skirt, or you could go nuts with fabric daisies.

Seeing a close-up, I am now really feeling the idea of a straw hat. You could put daisies on it. XD Ahhhhh, I like flowers.

Haha, no wonder margokennedy mentioned Emily Temple. I am not familiar with that brand, but now I see it. Oh and are you sure if I wore a tropical flower it would still be Lolita? I'm starting to think Hawaiian or something.

I tend to be a bit more lenient about hair accessories. I think an orange or yellow lily, or something, would be fine. It would still be recognizable (and nice!) as lolita as long as you had the basic silhouette, and proper shoes and socks (or whatever).

Sorry about the comment spam. I get ranty when I'm tired. Good night. X)

i think it looks great, but maybe it would look better with an off white blouse. as for hair accessories, i'm a big fan of small bows on headbands and hair flowers. a simple ribbon in one of the bright colours of the dress would be nice too!
i think its great to go for less-traditional prints for lolita! theres only so much ice cream and cake prints a girl can have!

Ah, thanks... my boyfriend did mention that the white blouse is too white for the dress, but he also said the dress is not Lolita at all! (I tend not to take his opinions too seriously.)

I shall find an off white blouse. :) Thanks for your input!

I don't think it's any of the lolita types we know of. There could maybe be a NEW STYLE OMG! made out of it. It's a very cute pattern, I love stuff like that. ^_^

it's not a "typical" loli print but even if lolita has many rules: "thou shalt not wear creative prints" definitely isn't one of them :D I really like it, you'll just need a blouse in the matching cream or in one of the colours that's on the print, the white clashes a bit :)
and yes, it definitely reminds me of ETC:)

I think going a bit classical country for this would be cool. I've noticed brands like Victorian Maiden have JSKs with skinny straps and the girls usually have a coordinating bolero over it. The print is really different from the prints in that brand. (Like everyone else, the print reminds me of ETC...) But maybe try looking at some of Victorian Maiden's advertizements?

You could curl your hair and wear a coordinating ribbon or rose corsage in it. That'd be really pretty. o:

I really like it, it's different and will work for some styles. It would be interesting to see a dark blue blouse to match the blue that its the JSK...give it a nice rich and contrast look.

By the way, where did you buy this?

I bought the dress a couple months ago at forever 21. The shape is very similar to this, except I had lace on the top + straps and of course the print is different. http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=dresses&product%5Fid=2049718932&Page=all

It's really cute!! Since the straps are so thin I don't know if it works as a JSK, but I think it'd be lovely if you made it into a skirt - the apttern is so cute!

I think it's adorable; hooray for non-traditional prints! I would go for a blouse that has navy or sage detailing if you're going to stick to white, just to tie it back in. Shoes, I wish you luck on, since I am not sure what I would do. Navy flats maybe, but that could be pretty hit or miss.
I think a sidebow or little bows on each side in one of the pattern colors could be cute without being overwhelming. Or a fake xinnia on one side, the same way you might wear a rose with a classic print.

Wow, isn't it hard to find a navy or any other color besides cream, white, or black blouse with a peter pan collar? Or is it still ok to wear a blouse underneath it without the collar and puff sleeves? Don't get me wrong, I love your idea and I totally agree... I just don't know where to get a blouse that would match. T_T

Well, that's was I was thinking detailing, not solid navy; like white with navy on the edge of the collar & sleeves. I'm not sure, but I think some uniform stores have blouses like that if you aren't enough of a sewer to modify a white blouse. I know I've seen them, but I can't remember where, sorry.

When I first saw the dress in the preview pic, I actually didn't think it would work. But with your coordination, it goes really really well! I never would have thought about lolita-ing it up if I saw in a store.

I'm actually a fan of having lots of color in accessories. For this, I'd love to see a hair band that matches the blue or orange in the dress.

This is just my take on this. I don't get to wear lolita very often, but sometimes I run into trendy summer dresses and (A-Line) skirts and I think they can be loliable (whatever the print. Personally, I like the modern/artistic prints over the usual loli motifs like fruits and flowers), so long as they can fit with a petticoat. I think that even for a non loli brand, that dress is perfectly acceptable. I really should find some summer dresses and convert them into something loliable. xD

The dress looks gorgeous on you, btw.
Since the dress is somewhat of a modern type, I think a simple headband could work (maybe gold or yellow color. The color will "pop" out from your hair color). I think other trendy accessories like chunky long beads could work too.

Can I ask you one more thing about it?

I am usually a size small. Bust: 32inches and Waist: 26inches. Unfortunately this dress is a little large on me. I had to alter it a little. I would say, if you had a 33-35inch bust or 27-28inch waist it would fit you perfectly in a size small.
