Themes for November
[info]egl now has monthly themes, in which everyone is welcome to participate!
Theme based posts do not need to include both of the themes, and not all community posts have to be on theme. The themes are just to give people inspiration and excuses to post!

The General Theme for November is Hair and Makeup!
Inspired by the gorgeous piano-key bonnet, hairbow, rose corsage and lovely lilac hair in this month's banner art, the theme this month calls for your favourite hair and makeup styles. Are you an OTT sweet lolita who loves to fill your hair with bows and sparkle, a classic lolita who can wear a bonnet like the best of the Victorians, or perhaps a gothic lolita who can rock a smoky eye makeup look like a professional makeup artist? Show us your beautiful hair and makeup looks, favourite hairpieces and how-to tutorials.

The Aesthetic Theme for November is Music!
Musical themes abound in lolita style, from violin-case bags to gorgeous prints of musical instruments, notes and piano keys. Do you play an instrument? What music do you love that evokes the feel of lolita for you? Get out your music box and show us how you use music as a theme or inspiration.

26th-Nov-2009 07:40 pm - Input from the Community
Euphie Fallen Angel
I would like some input from the community on the subject of group orders.
As I'm sure many of you know, I do many orders from wigs and petticoats. Most of the time they run very well, but recently I have had several girls who have dropped out after ordering. I haven't left bad feedback in any of these cases, but it's getting a bit irritating and I'm wondering if it would be considered justified?
I've always been under the impression that after an invoice has been sent out, it is bad form to back out of the sale. Is this normal, or am I off the mark?
I don't want to seen harsh, but it gets a bit irritating and throws off my books when people drop out of orders, especially after I've sent out the invoices. However, I wanted to see how other members of the community felt about this.
Also, this is not directed at anyone in particular, and is just the result of this happening a lot lately. I don't want to make any rash decisions, so I would rather get feedback from the community on this issue.
Thanks very much, your input is greatly appreciated!
26th-Nov-2009 10:12 pm - ALL ASSIGNMENTS HAVE BEEN SENT!
[ umineko ] beatrice is real!
Hello~

Just wanted to let you know that after weeks of working on checking feedback/pairing people up by area and shipping requirement and tracking addresses down... I finally have all Secret Santa assignments sent out!

If you were originally approved and didn't get an assignment, it's because I never got your address. I'll most likely be hosting this again next year, this time more in advance and with help from the wonderful [info]tsunderess.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER IF YOU ARE PARTICIPATING:
1. Keep all gifts between $20 and $30 USD.
2. Send out a little note along with your gift!
3. All gifts must be sent out before December 19th.
4. Email me as soon as you've sent out your gifts so I can keep track.
5. If you haven't received your gift by January 15th, please contact me. I'll give you your gifters username and try to get in contact with them.
6. Unsent gifts will result in negative feedback on the DBS.

Happy gifting and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
26th-Nov-2009 09:50 pm - Is this for real?
A couple days ago, a friend and I visited a small, quiet Korean gift shop. I picked up a headband and noticed that there was a small "AP" printed on the side. Angelic Pretty? I flipped out. After I recovered, I began to question if it was really Angelic Pretty. Are there any other brands whose initials are "AP"? I hope not. Cause this could be a really cool find.

Is this a real Angelic Pretty product? )
26th-Nov-2009 01:33 pm - 'cupcake-y' petticoat pattern
Well I checked memories and I checked the 'search' feature and I'm surprised that I only found 1 pattern!

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how to tier and layer a petticoat so it's not square-dance-y? I think the lace one from Candy Violet looks the most like 'cupcake' but really...

I found this tutorial http://sugardale.blogspot.com/2008/08/how-to-make-petticoat.html but it's still not the right 'shape'

The lace one from CV looks like it has 2 tiers and either 2 or 3 layers... but like how do you make it the right shape? is it because there's 2 tiers? maybe there's less fabric on each tier? like 4 metres on one tier to 5 metres on the next instead of 4 to 6?

26th-Nov-2009 12:27 pm - egl_comm_art - General update!
Megan
Greetings from one of the mods over at [info]egl_comm_art!
We're a community based around Lolita artwork, a friendly place to post your work and get helpful critiques (or if you just want to share artwork you did without fear of being torn apart by the non-art community ;)).
In addition to being a great place to show off your mad art skillz and ask for help and suggestions, one of the things that we're doing to keep the community active is having art contests!
Current competitions:
~ December/January theme - Photography - This was announced to be a theme a few months ago, but got pushed aside for more seasonally fitting ideas. For this theme, we're looking for artistic photos (not your d_l photos!). The winning piece will be featured in the community layout for the month of February. More information can be found at this post. The deadline for this competition is January 23rd.
~ Contest #4 - Wonderland - Being that Alice in Wonderland crosses over with Lolita so much, it's only fitting that we have a contest for it (especially with the new movie coming out next year). The winning piece will be featured in the community profile for a minimum of 90 days, as well as receive two surprise Alice inspired items (which will be announced within 2 weeks of the contest ending). More information can be found at this post. The deadline for this competition is February 15th.
You must be a member in order to enter any of the contests (obviously). If you're interested in becoming a member, please see our community rules here.

Want to become a work of art? We're looking for photo donations! I'd like to expand the resources available to our community artists, and for that, I need everyone's help who's able to contribute! If you have photos that you'd like to donate, and/or would like more information, please see my full post in the art community, here--commenting has been enabled for non-community members (and screened to help protect those that don't want their photos too widely spread, but don't mind them being used for artistic purposes). Please post all photos/links in the linked post, not in this egl post.
26th-Nov-2009 04:10 pm - Sophie Lancaster Foundation
Angelic Pretty
Mods: If you deem this irrelevant to the community please feel free to delete. I think this kind of hits close to home with a lot of us though.

Sophie Lancaster was a goth who was murdered walking home through a park in England in 2007, simply for how she looked. She was an intelligent and kind girl with a bright future ahead of her who died trying to protect her boyfriend as the gang repeatedly kicked and jumped on her head. When the police arrived they couldn't identify if she was male or female because of the extent of her injuries. Today would have been her 23rd Birthday.

Worse than the horrific event itself were the reactions of the perpetrators and their family claiming "There's two moshers nearly dead up Bacup park — you wanna see them — they're a right mess." More worrying still one of the killers 'was "laughing and joking" with his mother as police quizzed him.' and that 'Harris’s [one of the killers] mother was laughing all through the proceedings of this murder case.'

The Sophie Lancaster foundation has been set up in her memory to help Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred & Intolerance Everywhere. They aim to educate people and try to eradicate prejudice over people's looks and appearance. We're not goths, we don't look the same and more often (in my experience) receive mostly positive comments; however I know some people that do not like travelling home alone when they're dressed up and many of us who can at least identify with being physically or verbally abused because of their appearance.

If you want to support the foundation please watch the video, visit the website, make a £1 donation, or buy some makeup or a tee-shirt As you need to have a British bank account or to sign up with the makeup company to donate I can make a paypal button and pass on the donations if anyone wants. Even just spreading her story is a step towards making sure this never happens again

26th-Nov-2009 04:43 am - Bit of a realization...
poland
Yay edit:
If your sick of this, get the mods to delete it. I don't care. Like I've probably said a million times, it was something I noticed, dug around to see if it happened else where, and thought it might be interesting.
If that sounds bitchy to you, great. I'm happy for you.

Also, to everyone who says I'm being immature/not making sense/etc etc, how much sense do you make at 4-5 am, with no sleep and a caffeine buzz? Not much, probably. Feel free to argue differently though.

And finally, I probably should have saved this all as a draft and come back to it when I woke up, proofread, and fixed it up all nice and pretty right? Right. Someone please smack me the next time I'm typing stuff up at 5 am on LJ.

End edit!

-- One last thing; Sorry if I don't reply to all your comments! My house AND school are being renovated so that leaves me little time for much except late at night. I promise I'll read as many as I can and reply!

(Sorry if this isn't allowed)

Today after reading over a few forum posts from a screen cap my friend in Sweden (she lacks a LJ account sadly) showed me, I felt a bit sad.

Many girls in the forum were complaining about this comm, what about? How everyone on this comm has JUST brand. Now, I know for a fact that's not true. No one has enough money to have JUST brand. While many of the members do have brand pieces, not everyone does.

SO, while I no longer have the screen cap (temporary files delete on my laptop after four hours - and this was at least 8 hours ago - to save space), I did some digging, not here because I don't want to name call or anything, but I looked around any place where this probably occurs. Which includes 4chan, and Gaia, and a few other sites.

and I came to this conclusion.

Burando Envy.
(link leads to my personal journal where I pretty much repeat what I've said here, but more in depth, if you will.)

And while I may be talking out of my ass, I have a friend who has extreme brand envy of a few of the better known members of this comm (not naming names), so... I don't know. I'm concerned some girls might be wasting money on offbrand/bodyline/whatever because they can't afford AP even second hand, and they hate their current wardrobe.

Anyway I'll stop here as most everything else is talked about in the linked entry.
Again, sorry if this isn't allowed, this is probably only my second or third post here. ):
