I found this out from a friend... Barns & Noble are selling assorted Edward Gorey Christmas greeting cards! I tried to find a listing online for you guys to see, but they don't have a listing of the box set that I got. I couldn't even find it on Amazon!

However, here is a link to some of the cards they do have.

I'll post some pictures of the cards I've got when I can get some pictures taken (I have to borrow a camera). Those will be posted later. But if you want to try and find some, yourself, they are the Edward Gorey Christmas Assortment of greeting cards, five in a box, for about $15.00 ($10.00 if you know someone who can get you an employee discount!)

I know there was an episode of The Simpsons where Bart talks about "Dark Stanley" and there is an animation with Gorey-esque drawings... well I looked at that post again and the video is no longer available. I was wondering if anyone had it or could point me to a link where it was available...?

I wasn't sure if this was "against the law" but if anyone is interested, this is up for sale. The Amphigorey and a new copy of Gashleycrumb Tinies. I have too many of his books (numerous copies) because once I collect, I can't seem to stop. :(

The Moonlight Ball

This past weekend was The Moonlight Ball which is an Edward Gorey-themed event held as a benefit for the Animal Rescue league of Boston. I was happily invited to participate, and had my models mingle with the other guests throughout the evening in character as Gorey-esque personas!

Gorey themed Moonlight Ball

I thought some of you might be interested in the upcoming Moonlight Ball in Boston, MA on October 20th. I've been invited to showcase some of my Gorey-esque designs at the event, and this Victorian Halloween Ball will be highlighted by an auction to benefit the Animal Rescue League :)

In the episode "Yokel Chords" of The Simpsons eighteenth season, Bart makes up a story about a cannibal cafeteria worker named Dark Stanley. The animation in this sequence resembles Edward Gorey's work.

is anyone planning on going to it (I just found out about it)
i will be in San Fransisco (on holiday) that week and am thinking of attending it 9tough choice as I am in town to attend a burlesque convention and may have conflict of dates and interests (big Edward Gorey fan and love costume BUT also traveling hundreds of mile to attend burlesque convention and believe that the main night of shows connected to that function are the same night)

might (oh, heaven if i could wangle it) might attend both (the Edward Gorey event first then the burlesque event after ,which may run later) the problem is i do not know your town and will need feed back on how far apart they are from each other and how viable would that be (as will have limited time,budget or knowledge of the city to orchestrate)

so if you can offer your assistance to help me figure out the logistics as to distance and time of travel involved would be wonderful (and would especially would love to here from any one attending the ball as i will be in town on my own and would be nice to connect with someone who plans to attend)

delight! the recently published retrospective of photographer/master-of-disguise Cindy Sherman's career includes some early work, a series loosely defined as her "murder mystery people", and i suggest you dig up the new book and have a peek, because several of these photos are very much influenced by the characters in Mr. Gorey's "awdrey-gore legacy". alas, i couldn't find any of the pictures in question online...yet, but when they turn up i'll be sure to share with the class as always! in the meantime, if you happen to be loitering in the vicinity of your nearest book-sellin' shoppe, do step in and have a peek!

Hello Goreyophiles all:
Several years ago (long before Gorey's death), I purchased a signed/numbered Gorey print from the Barnes & Noble catalog for a grand whopping $40. I had it framed, as one does, and hung it on my wall. Thus began my collection of Gorey books, prints, and ephemera. Following Gorey's death, I checked my copy of Goreyography for information on this print but have yet to locate anything. I've placed below, under a cut, a pic of the print in the hopes that someone out there might have some info about it. It shows a typical Gorey creature sitting in front of a chest, reading a copy of the Volapuk Bible, and atop the chest is another book entitled, Nepokumania (or something like that).

I look forward to seeing if anyone knows anything about this unusual print! Thanks much.

I took a picture of all my Edward Gorey books. I just got a new bookshelf built so I organized my books. Put together, I don't have has many as I thought!

Now since I took this picture I purchased the "new" AMPHIGOREY AGAIN book that is in hardcover. So that is missing. Also, I have a handful of Gorey-illustrated John Bellairs paperbacks that I have in another section, so those aren't in the picture.

I made the image big so maybe you can read the titles a bit better.

Gotham Bookmart - Gone

Just found out about this today:

The entire contents of the 87-year-old Gotham Book Mart - from rare first-edition John Updike novels to the worn-out oriental rug on the third floor - was sold en masse for $400,000 at a court-mandated auction.

Long-time home to many, many Gorey works, first editions, etc. I'd never been to Gotham Book Mart...and it was my main reason for every wanting to go to NYC.

i know i know, xxxmas is forever away, but i only just recently discovered that the gorey/updike collaboration "12 terrors of christmas" has been made available through the good peoples at Pomegranate. sure, this is likely old news to some, but i figured i'd report on this release, just in case you've been hiding in a bunker somewhere like me.

"12 terrors" has long been a very expensive collector's item (i've seen it go for several hundred on the eBay and at abe.com), so it's grand to see it on sale for under 10 dollars!

to sum up: yay.

Hello, my name is Sarz. I'm 21 years old and have been a Gorey fan for quite a few years.

My mother actually is a Gorey fan and had his work, prints and books, strewn around our house. One day, bored, I sat down to read one and fell instantly inlove.

I have three signed prints, a lunchbox, and about 20 books of his. I'm always interested in talking to other Gorey fans, and I'm just glad there are many out there!
