About:
Welcome to the Livejournal community for author Edmund White.

Membership is open, anyone can post and I’m not terribly fussy about whether posts are on or off topic. Obviously it would be great if people wanted to talk about Edmund White, but I’m not a fire-breathing dragon poised to toast anyone who dares wander from the path. If you have other authors you’d like to discuss, especially when comparing or contrasting their styles to White’s, then by all means feel free. Tenuous links are fine with me. I suppose you'll have to put up with my reviews full of worship because at the moment I am quite impressed by what I've read of White's so far. But of course this does not mean that I expect nothing but praise in people's comments. I want to hear what people truly think and if that amounts to general dislike then do share.

~Edmund Valentine White III~

White, now in his sixties, was born January 13, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He moved to New York in the early 1960’s and was present at the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, a defining moment for gay liberation. He’s worked not only as an author of novels, short-stories, and pieces on Paris but as a writer, reviewer and editor for numerous publications, as a lecturer at prestigious universities and as the writer of two engaging and insightful biographies. His recent, full auto-biography gives extensive insight into his life and the people he has shared his days with. His writing style offers much for any reader whether they are looking for breathtaking prose, astute observational skills, tender humour or blinding frankness. White’s strongest draw is the amount of himself he pours into his work. Reading his novels becomes an act of living and breathing alongside him in a disorienting, removed and remote fashion. You know him but you don’t, you’ve been in Paris and Rome with him but you haven’t, you’ve shared his brightest and darkest days but they weren’t yours. His writing is a wonderful experience and White is an author that no one should pass by.

~Reviews~

I’d love people to write reviews of any of White’s books, even if someone’s already written one and even if there are a billion other reviews on the web already. I always appreciate seeing more than one review and I’m sure other readers would as well. I'm trying to mark reviews and discussions etc appropriately with tags to make them easily browseable.

~Radio/TV~

I’m also very interested in radio and television appearances that White has made as well as magazine articles so if you see one and want to share it, please do so. Don’t worry that it may be old and others may have read it. That’s always the case for some but not others.

~Introduction Posts~

I’d appreciate it if people, upon joining, posted a small/medium-sized/large hello including anything about themselves they’d care to share: books they’ve read or are planning to read, or favourite films, music etc. But if you’d prefer to lurk I’m fine with that too.

~Edmund White Official Website~

The Website listed is Edmund White’s official website and I have nothing to do with it. I’m just pointing others towards it and I strongly recommend a look since there is a lovely gallery as well as review/synopsis articles for his works and a rough itinerary of what he’s up to in the future (public appearances etc.)

~Contact~

If you have any questions/comments just leave a reply to one of my posts (any post is fine) and I'll get back to you. If I haven't replied within a few days please post another message to remind me. (or email me...whichever you prefer)
