Club Fit

Does anybody have any experience with a membership at Club Fit? I'm thinking of the downtown location in particular. Do you like the staff there? Are the memberships affordable (I'm a student)? What kind of people usually go there? What do you think of the classes? And what about the equipment (well maintained, a good assortment)?

Or is there another fitness place that you would recommend? (preferably something easily accessible by transit since I live on campus).

I'm just tired of the campus gym and I'm looking for an alternative.

I don't know if this will help with the answers, but I'm a female and I work out 3 - 5 times a week for about an hour at a time. I do some cardio and weight lifting. I use mainly free weights and occasionally machines.

Thank you for your help.

Looking for a companion Guinea Pig

Hey there, I'm currently on the look to adopt a Male Guinea Pig as a companion to my other male Cavy. I have housing and preparations ready, I just need the piggie!

Quite obviously I'd like to adopt because I know somebody out there has a piggy they don't want anymore.

I'm willing to pay. He'd be coming to a good home with another male piggy with a nice big (home made) cage, which is way too big for one Cavy!

norco road bike. drop-down handlebars. great ride: fast enough to get you anywhere, good brakes, super comfortable. i used it all summer to commute the 7-8 k to work.

why give it away?

i got if from ebc for $80. it would be sad if it went to waste.

if you want to give me something for it, that's cool. if not, that's ok too. mostly i want it to go to someone who will use it.

i'm leaving the city tomorrow (as in friday) night at midnight. i need it tomorrow, but it's yours if you can meet me between 10 pm and 11:30 pm friday night. will be checking my email all day tomorrow & tonight.

-charles: oviger@gmail.com

(also posted to craigslist.)

For those people who were a bit curious about some of my unusual requests please feel free to take a gander behind the cut at a photo or two:

mods: hope this is okay

This was an art experiment I made with some of the LEDS i acquired and setup...this particular batch was with styrofoam balls but I used pingpong balls and other things as well. The pictures DO NOT do it justice unfortunately...I hung up a couple hundred of these in the woods on a recent camping trip...they last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks even!

They are 1inch to 3inches in diameter..some were made into nets...some magnetic...some sticky to get up high....

or...LIGHTS ON

and...LIGHTS OFF!!

ps: all were retrieved at end of experiment.

Does anyone in this community know of a good massage therapist in the Oliver or downtown-ish area that isn't too expensive? And I was also looking at joining some martial arts/self defense class or maybe some other fitness type class in the same area. Since I just moved here I'm not too sure where to look, and you all were very helpful when I was trying to find a nice area to live in when I asked before.

Thanks!

i was shocked to find my apartment up for rent on two different websites this afternoon. mostly because i still live in it and haven't given notice or recieved notice that i should be prepared to move out. can a rental company post an ad for a property being up for rent without it actually being for rent? or even before it's officially up for rent? now i'm super paranoid that they might have had people in my apartment to see it. what should i do in a situation like this?

Mortgage Brokers?

Hey Everyone,
You've all been so helpful before, so here's hoping you have some recommendations.
My partner and I are looking at buying a home, and while we've already been approved for a mortgage loan, we were wanting to see if we could get a better deal first (in regards to the percentage down).
Our bank right now has said 5% down, but I've heard that going through a mortgage broker sometimes gets you a smaller percentage, which would be helpful. It's a $310-330,000 home, so not ridiculous, but still up there.
Even if you're not sure about percentages that can be offered, has anyone had any really great experience with anyone in particular?
Any help or opinions would be great. I don't know much about this, although my partner does, but I'm looking at options to help.
Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know of a good hair stylist? I moved to Edmonton three years ago and I haven't had a real hair cut since then. I don't know what places are good and what places not to go to. I'm basically looking for a place that isn't so expensive and near downtown. I'm also planning my wedding and would like to start looking for a good hair stylist right now, so any suggestions would be kindly appreciated! :)

need a place to rent.

to make a long story short, my apartment building was recently bought by a huge rental company and in three months time, the rent will skyrocket. i currently pay $500 for a small bachelor suite a few blocks off of whyte ave and will soon be expected to pay $800 and i can't afford it.

does anyone know of any places for rent now or that will be up for rent between now and december? i'm not very picky, don't smoke, no pets and am not a partier, but do have a couple things that i'd rather not budge from.

i'd really like to live on my own. no shared accomodations or roommates. i've had issues with mold in basement suites in the past and have gotten really sick so would rather not a basement. i also don't drive so it has to be very accessible by bus. and lastly, it has to be affordable. i really want to go back to school and am trying to save up for that.

if you know of anyone or anywhere that might be renting in the next few months, or websites i should check out, please pass them along. i've been doing quite a bit of looking online but have had zero luck so felt the need to try and find some people with some connections that i may not find by looking on my own.

thank you in advance!

Awesome Youth Worker training program!

The program I just finished is about to do it’s next intake of new participants. It’s part work experience, part schooling for training in the youth work and social work field.

It's called Together Wecan and it’s 6 months, full time, for people 18-30, paying $294 a week with a completion bonus. There are a lot of perks like monthly food baskets and bus passes, certificate training that you take with you later (first aid, crisis intervention), a winter jacket and money for a professional outfit when it's done. It's a pretty awesome program. There are a lot of field trips and things too, all paid to be there.

You do things like running a youth centre, patrolling the community, staging events, working in elementary schools and a lot of workshops.

You can still apply if you have kids, they can offer money for daycare.

You need to display some sort of barrier to regular employment, but it doesn't have to be much. Almost everyone has a barrier of some sort. You need to have not been on EI in the last 3 years or maternity leave in the last 5.

It's a great program for anyone who wants to get started in youth work or even if they want to go back to school, they’ll help you to figure out what to do next at the end of it. I heartily recommend it.

http://www.wecancooperative.ca/WECANyouthservices.htm

Please pass this info along to anyone who might be interested! Thanks.

WestJet is having a sale until Monday on Mexican getaways. $890/person four-star, all inclusive, price includes flight and taxes and gratuities, to stay here when flying out of Vancouver, and $905 flying out of Calgary (Is that a good deal? I don't travel much so I have no idea. It seems to be the cheapest I can find, though). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with that resort or any of its sister resorts (THE ROYAL in Cancun, THE ROYAL in Playa del Carmen, ran Porto Real Playa del Carmen, and Real Playa del Carmen), or which resorts in Mexico you would recommend. :)

Oh! And here's a link to West Jet's Mexican Madness! Its not just restricted to Cancun. :)

Chimney Repair

Our chimney is in quite desperate need of repair but I can't find any masons/bricklayers/handymen(or women) who are willing to do residential work. Are you or do you know anyone who is qualified and looking for work? The existing chimney is built of what looks like cinder blocks but the people who looked at (but unfortunately don't do repairs, just raincap installations) tell me it needs to be taken down and totally rebuilt (though the liner is good) so there is a great deal of flexibility regarding building materials. I can provide more details if required.

I'm crossing my fingers very tightly as I hit the post button...
