New LARP - Changeling: the Lost

I'm currently in the process of helping to establish a LARP, using the new World of Darkness setting - Changeling: the Lost. It's one of White Wolf's more successful efforts, very similar in style to their well-received work with Dark Ages: Fae and the Fae of the Exalted setting.

It's dark, it's strange, it's atmospheric... and we're just in the process of setting things up. If you'd like to get your character in at the ground floor, established as a firm part of the city's background, or if you're simply curious and would like to find out more - then please do feel free to turn up, post a comment here, or to contact me separately. Very little is set in stone thus far, and I am determined to give the players a signficant role in shaping the setting.

We're due to be holding the game at 7:30pm on the first Tuesday of each month, but there's an extra meeting taking place on the 30th of this month to talk about characters, flesh out the city background, and discuss what players want from the game.

My initial work on the local setting can be found here.

At least till the end of the year, we'll be meeting at:

RAF Club
11 Hillside Crescent
Edinburgh
EH7 5EA

Again with the lateness... Sorry folks.

Right this weekend we have 3 games scheduled.

Fraser is running a 40K RPG game based on some preview rules published on the Black Industries website.
Tribs is running a D&D game which is sort of a prelude to the launch of the Shared Campaign at Worldwide D&D Day on 3rd November.
Bill however is going all retro and tying his game in with Halloween. Ghostbusters RPG as produced by West End Games! "Players take the parts of characters from the film at a haunted game convention. Expect anarchy, property damage, and occasional laughs. Oh yeah, and handouts with permits too.
OK, every year Acacia Avenue fills up with more weirdoes than Egon's University science club reunion for: the one-and-only Total Con (not affiliated with Total Con Paris, or LA TotalCon [TM]), an emporium of gaming delights. Unfortunately the MR James Convention centre has just vanished, taking with them the "Last best hope for geeks," as Venkman put it... Who they gonna call?"

Other than that not a lot to report as beyond this weekend all eyes are on Worldwide D&D Day. Come along and join in on the fun, you know you want to ;)

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Apologies for the lateness of this.

As mentioned previously we're hosting Worldwide D&D Day on Saturday November 3rd. I'm not going to repeat the blurb again, suffice to say more information is on the ORC website - http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ - and character concepts should be sent to Fraser on the website by this Sunday at the latest, otherwise it's pre-gens!

On to the games this weekend... Well I had hoped to announce 3 games but unfortunately 2 of them have been cancelled because of Real Life(tm) issues. As I write this we've got 2 potential games lined up but only 1 game confirmed as yet. Have no fear! Games will be run!

The only confirmed game this weekend is a Resident Evil game ran by Nick using the d20 Modern rules.

If you have any questions please visit the ORC website or respond here.

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Greetings,

Before I mention the games we have planned for this weekend I want to touch on the ORC Shared D&D Campaign which is looming on the horizon. The campaign will launch on Worldwide D&D Day, which is Saturday November 3rd this year. We are looking to get character concepts from those who want take part before the 21st of October to give the GMs time to ensure that they are entered into the database. For those unable to submit a concept there will be pre-generated characters on offer. More specific information on this can be found on the website.

Also as a reminder, all games are currently being played in Cafe Nero after the sudden closure of the Three Tuns pub. Whilst the search for a new venue continues we are being made to feel welcome at Cafe Nero.

So without further ado, this weekend at ORC we have 2 games confirmed.

Judge Dredd [GM:Tribs]

Tales Of Epiphany (D&D) [DM: Alasdair]

For more information on what games we have coming up and to take part in the forum discussions please check out our website at http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/

Cheers,

Dave

Greetings. A couple of things before I mention the games for this week.

First up I'd like to formally announce the launch of the ORC Shared D&D Campaign. The game kicks off on Worldwide D&D Day on November 3rd. We have 6 DMs lined up to manage the campaign as the characters progress through the New World.
If you want to take part please download the New World Explorer's Guide from the ORC website. It has all the information you need to play a character in the New World. Once you have the character built it needs to be sent to Fraser (Caboose on the ORC site) who will input it into a central database which we are using to manage all the characters. (Sounds more complicated than it is..)

Anyway for the purposes of a teaser here's the blurb from the website -
"There's quite a crowd in the market place, all clustered around a sign tacked against the wall with a large nail. A rough picture of a treasure chest tops a crudely lettered poster:

'A land of opportunity and wealth awaits!
Wanted: persons of enterprise and ability to assist in the exploration of the new world.
Previous nautical experience and background not necessary.
Report to the offices of Twin Horizons Trading Co.'

You've heard of the New World. It's supposed to be a place where a being can make their mark and leave a legacy.
Looks interesting: hells, the sense of adventure, the gold and land. You could make a fortune - why not?"

Second up is that ORC is no longer gaming in the Three Tuns due to it having to unfortunately close it's doors. We have reverted to gaming at Caffe Nero, our ancestral home if you will. Although Nero is adequate for our needs we are on the lookout for an alternate venue and if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Our criteria is as follows - Under18s can get in; Open from 12pm to 6pm every Saturday; Free (this is particularly important and tricky); and preferably easy walking distance from Caffe Nero on Rose Street. Oh and to gauge size we're average about 25 people every Saturday now but this has been known to go over 30...

So now onto the games we have for you this week -

D&D [DM: Chris] - A continuation of a previous game.
Mutants & Masterminds [GM: Robert] - A one off 1st Edition M&M game.
Tales Of Epiphany (D&D) [DM: Alasdair] - A campaign continues.

Any questions about any of this please let me know.

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Indie Gaming in Edinburgh

I thought it might be nice to post a little note about the Indie Gaming scene and its presence in Edinburgh. Edinburgh is the home of BoxNinja, publisher of Best Friends, and of Contested Ground Studios, publisher of Cold City, A|State, and Mob Justice amongst other projects. Take a look around our fair city and you'll find the authors of most of these games (though nor Malcolm, he's on a trip around the world) as well many of their playtesters and some of their artists.

A lot of these designers discuss their games as part of the Collective Endeavour, a UK group dedicated to the Indie Role playing games industry, and appear at conventions such as Dragonmeet and, more recently, GenCon US. Any UK gamer interested in designing and publishing their own Indie game can find help and support at Collective Endeavour, as well as non-UK specific sites such as The Forge and Story Games, but there is a particularly wealth of help available in Edinburgh!

So. Here we are again.

Without turning this into too much of a Dave Update message, things are improving and I think I'm still on track to return to all things ORC properly this time next month.

Anyway onto what's going on at ORC.

This weekend we've got 4 games planned. I don't have any information about the plots or anything for these games unfortunately.

D&D [DM: Chris]
Kindred of the East (WoD) [Storyteller: Ross]
Shadowrun [GM: Benn]
Tribe 8 [GM: WildCat]

The D&D game and the Tribe 8 game have spaces if my information is correct while both the Shadowrun and KotE games are close to full (if not full already).

If you want to sign up for any of these games then go to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ Oh and you can of course join in on the chatter there too.

Next post I will include some details about the launch of the ORC Shared Campaign which the GMs have been busily beavering away on finalising. The "Explorer's Handbook" is currently available for download from the site which gives potential players a sign of what the GMs have in store. The campaign itself will launch on Worldwide D&D Day (November 3rd) and we've got enough GMs to run 7 sessions depending on demand.

Cheers for now,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Well hello there.

Miss me? Nah, you didn't even notice did you?

Apologies for the lack of messages of late, for those of you who don't know I was in a car accident (nothing serious but resulted in 14 weeks off work with whiplash...) back in June and the past month or so has been about me starting the process of returning to work - which has really meant I spend less time in front of the PC when at home.

Anyway I've not been able to do these messages so you'll have been missing out on my chatter.
Things have carried on regardless without me at ORC and the attendance is growing every week which is great, hopefully that continues.

Anyway this weekend at ORC we have the following games scheduled -

The Loxley Institute (Unknown Armies) [GM: Benn]
and
Tales Of Epiphany (D&D) [DM: Alasdair]

Due to my absence from work and ORC for the past 14 weeks I've not really had my finger on the pulse of what is being planned or indeed run spontaneously so if anyone is aware of other games scheduled for this weekend can they either contact me directly or submit the event to the website.

Oh and I'm still not 'fit' to return to ORC, current estimates put that at 4-6 weeks from now.

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Greetings my fellow gamers.

This is a short message this week to entice you along for some RPG fun!

On Saturday we have 2 games confirmed with one other as yet to be confirmed.

Star Wars (Saga Edition) [GM: Chris]
and
Voyage To Jupiter [GM: Alasdair (LSTAR)]

are expected to run as per the scheduled rotation we're working with. If you fancy being that GM then pop along to the website and stick your hand up! Failing that one of your fellow ORCers will step into that breach no doubt.

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Evening all,

Slightly late in getting this out but not too late methinks.

First up is that this Saturday is UK Free RPG Day. Full details are on the Black Lion website - http://www.black-lion.co.uk/node/498

Second up is the continuing discussions around the ORC Shared Campaign Setting. I believe the team are meeting at 11am in Cafe Nero to brainstorm a bit more. It's not too late to pitch in if you want to DM for this.
We've created a separate section to the ORC website for the DMs to discuss things in relation to the plot etc without everyone seeing ;-)

Anyway onto the games, this weekend we have -

Resident Evil: Night of the Unknown (d20 Modern) [GM: Nick]
Nick's running a series of these, not entirely sure whether it's a campaign or not. I think it's more a series of adventures based within the same area. Sign up via the ORC site if you're interested, pre-gens are available though if you just turn up on the day.

Star Wars Saga Edition [GM: Chris]
Chris' Star Wars game continues with the characters making their way to Kaltiir Station after escaping the mining colony.

Voyage To Jupiter (LSD System) [GM: Alasdair]
I _think_ this is a continuation of Alasdair's game from earlier in the year but I might be mistaken... It's all about life on a sub-light spaceship making the long journey from Earth to Jupiter.

All games are open to new players.

If roleplaying doesn't take your fancy this Saturday then you could always head along to Black Lion and take part in some Warmachine. Full details are on the Black Lion website - http://www.black-lion.co.uk/node/491

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Apologies first up for not sending out a mailshot for yesterday's gaming. I haven't been able to spend as much time on this as normal.

It seems as though we had 3 games run yesterday with Ross' Kindred Of The East campaign continuing, Chris' Star Wars Saga Edition game kicking off and a one-shot game ran by Alasdair.

Anyway this is a quick note (Thanks to Morgan for reminding me of this) to remind you all that ORC was 'born' on July 5th 2003 and so this year will be it's 4th anniversary.

Some of those who were there at the start still come along and of course we've changed a lot over that time. Ok didn't decide to do it but still sounds better that way) I've seen ORC change a lot in that time. One of the biggest changes was Morgan leaving to go back to New Zealand which led to my taking on that mantle of "leader" of ORC.

Anyway just thought I'd make those of you new to ORC (and those that are lurking on the list) aware that you're part of a history here and that we're hoping for 4 more years minimum from this community and no doubt a lot more change as we go.

Saturday 7th of July will be the official 'celebration' of ORC's birthday but unfortunately I won't be able to make it. It'd be good if we could get a big turnout for it including some old faces so if you happen to speaking to one of those old faces or are one of those old faces try and get them to come along.

This has been a public broadcast message on behalf of the Open Roleplaying Community.

There will be a post later in the week once we know what's planned although currently I believe Fraser is going to run a comedy D&D game where the PCs are child Orcs trying to prove themselves to their tribe.

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!

Hello again. Here's your weekly run down on the goings on at ORC.

Once again we're having a gathering at 10am for those interested in building the ORC Shared Campaign. We've got a poll running so far for those interested in playing in the campaign to let us know which will help us to scale the campaign appropriately.

The games we have this weekend from 1pm to 5pm are -

The Loxley Institute (Unknown Armies) [GM: Benn]
Benn's UA game continues to develop and become yet more strange...

Necroscope: Lost in America (CoC) [Keeper: Bill]
A short adventure set in the 1930's, but there's a sting in the tale...
Who would think that a bus journey could result in a descent into madness? Pregenerated characters will be provided.

Tales Of Epiphany (D&D) [DM: Alasdair]
Alasdair's D&D with a lemony twist continues.

Another busy weekend at ORC, the question is "Will you be there?"

Cheers,

Dave

Have you checked out the ORC website?
What do you mean no?
Get your browser over to http://www.orcedinburgh.co.uk/ immediately!!!
