On the technical side, our terrestrial transmitter is slowly fading out. When it finally croaks, we'll give it a proper burial, as she's performed beautifully over the past four years, and far longer than she was designed for. Kudos to Ramsey for designing one hell of a little transmitter. We've a backup, but it's not nearly as nice. Time to start shopping for a replacement, I reckon.

Also, our antenna mast is in need of repair. Major masonry work is needed to shore things up, so hopefully the entire array won't topple over before the cooler weather arrives. None of this should affect the audio streams, though.

No rest for the wicked, as my Gran used to say...

Enjoy!

Our connectivity problems seem to have been rectified; after repeated calls, our ISP finally sent a tech out to the hub, and found that their software had been malfunctioning for some time. I was lucky enough to reach a tech at the call center that ACTUALLY listened to what I was saying. So, we're chugging right along, and connectivity should be stable once more.

We're experimenting with LAST.fm , a site that compiles charts based on what mp3s folks ACTUALLY listen to on their computers. We've got our playlist churning away on our second back-up machine just to see what comes up. Click on the logo to check it out:

EdgeRadio
For the last twenty-four hours, we've been experiencing sporadic power outages, which wreaks havoc with out Most Advanced Broadcast Equipment™. (Read: our trusty trio of emachines desktops)

Some of the issues stem from the ice storm that hit our area over two weeks ago. Couple that with a very aged and outdated regional electrical infrastructure, and blammo: a big mess. Battery back-ups aside, our systems simply cannot cope with problems of this magnitude.

So if one or both or our streams are unavailable, the lack of power is the most likely cause.

We've got everything sorted out, so barring any further issues, it's back to business as usual.

It might be time to invest in a generator and look into solar panels...

Speaking of audio streams, we've made some changes. We now stream at a much lower bit-rate of 32 kpbs, which uses a LOT less bandwidth. This means the stream should be much more stable, and listenable on slower connections and even wireless connections. We've also switched to AAC+ encoding, which delivers CD quality, stereo sound...even at 32 kbps.

We've also added a second stream of music only, again at 32 k. So it's all good, right?

There is a downside to streaming in AAC+, so if you're unable to connect to the new streams, please check out our Stream Help page:

It is too late to link to the Top Tracks of 2007?

Is it ever too late?

What is the air speed velocity of an un-laden swallow?

What is your favourite colour?

For the answers to these questions, and many more, click below...if you dare.

Would that be African or European?

Since I'm too lazy to actually upload songs, here's a You!Boob!™ viddie of the latest from
MIKE DOUGHTY, "27 Jennifers." A very cool song, but a rather strange video:
people in towels viewed with night vision...or something.
