Hello all! I'm a bit of a newbie to Hellraiser and Clive Barker, but in the past few weeks I've managed to watch the first, second, third, and sixth (was Hellseeker the sixth?) movies, and I LOVE them.

Anyways, after watching Hellseeker, I was a bit surprised at Kirsty's actions...

Well, there's bit a lot of arguments on various message boards I've visited on Kirsty's role in the movies. Some fans were disgusted that Kirsty turned into a killer, while others seemed to think she always had that sort of 'darkness' in her.

I was surprised, but I kind of understand why she did what she did. Despite Kirsty's strength and cunning when facing Pinhead, I think that a part of her really is afraid. I think she's afraid of the Cenobites taking her soul, and I think she's also afraid of the fact that she might want them to. As Pinhead said, Kirsty is so eager to play, yet to reluctant to admit it. Therefore, when she finds herself before Pinhead again, unable to escape, she does whatever she has to, to survive.

Honestly, I can't say I wouldn't do the same. The last thing in the world I'd want is to spend eternity being tortured, and I'd probably do almost anything to escape such a fate.

Besides, Trevor betrayed her and was planning to kill her! Not that he deserved death, but still...

I was wondering what you all thought. Has Kirsty taken after Pinhead and become cold and calculating, doing whatever is necessary to survive? Or was she simply desperate, betrayed once again by one she loved, hurt and confused and afraid? Do you think a part of Kirsty does want Pinhead to claim her soul, or is it simply fear?

I wish there'd be another movie with Kirsty, to show her fate... because Pinhead did say he wouldn't rest until he got what he came for, and he still doesn't have it....

Just thought I'd share some pics.

Oh, and if anyone knows-- I once found a site that let me download sound clips from the movie(s?) that I could then set as the sound effects on the computer. New computer, but I want those sounds back. (I still miss "this isn't for your eyes" when the recycle bin empties!!) It was a site I stumbled across by accident, can't remember where/how I stumbled.

(or maybe I'm just a technological moron and this is actually easy? probably)

I haven't seen any Hellraiser films since I was a kid, but after watching the first two films again I can't get enough!!

Just wanted to know what sequels are worth watching (I heard alot came out on dvd only?), and how many films are there overall?

I have to do this independant study in which I compare either two plays, two books or a play and a book. So of course I chose to compare two piece of clive barkers work. I am going to be comparing The History of the Devil to Weaveworld. So I am just kind of throwing this thought out to you guys if you feel ambitious enough. I am going to be needing a few secondary sources on Clive and these two pieces of work so if you guys no where I can find some..if you would please send them my way I would be very thankful. Or if you have anything else you think would help me out that would be cool too. Thanks!

How do you pronounce Ephemeris? Eff-uh-mare-is? Uh-fee-muh-ris? Eff-uh-meer-is? I have no idea.

I think this is from one of Clive's books, since his works are the goriest things I've read in forever.

In one of Clive's novels or short story collections, isn't there a bit in which someone (a woman, I think) cuts along their jawline and peels their face off? I wanna say Coldheart Canyon, but I really don't recall. Like I said, I think it's something of Clive's, but if not, my apologies for asking this here.

I just bought Clive's Books of Blood : Volume One used at a local bookstore for $2. It wasn't until I got back home that I realized it was signed (at least, I hope it's his).

Newbie Questions

I have a really easily-answered question, I'm sure. However, I just discovered Clive Barker, thanks to the intro he did for one of Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels.

Anyway, I've seen quite a few of the Hellraiser movies. Awhile ago, my husband and I watched one of them on SciFi, I believe. I want to know which Hellraiser flick it was. The only thing I remember is a really quiet, young girl opening up Lemarchand's box. I think someone gave her the box because she spent hours every day doing puzzles and it was like the only thing that she was really good at. By now I'm sure you all know which film I'm talking about.

Anyway, sorry for the newbie question. I'm so glad to have discovered Mr. Barker. I first read The Damnation Game and Coldheart Canyon (I want that tile room), then I moved on to The Great and Secret Show, which I didn't like but I'm willing to give it another go later. I've been looking for some genuinely creepy, macabre, twisted fiction for quite awhile, and he's just what I was looking for. So yes. Quite pleased and impressed.
