This is a community for electronic musicians to discuss the particulars of programming, sampling, mastering and recording and how it relates to EBM and related genres.
Before you join:
Before you join:
1. Please post immediately containing:
a)What your project is called.
b)Where you are from.
c)How long you have been writing.
d)What recording method you prefer (analogue/digital)
e)A link to 3 MP3's of the best example of your production. (Anything you've recorded for yourself, or mastered for others).
f) (optional) A bio.
Don't worry, this isn't an application-based community yet, we really want to hear everyone and cultivate this genre on a global level. Don't be afraid, we're not all dickheads. You won't be graded on your MP3's or anything, but don't be offended by members' constructive criticism. We're here to help.
q. What the hell is this about?
a. It's just about the music, not the clothes, the stupid haircuts, the egos, the bullshit comparisons, how much you've ordered from X-Tra.de, or how elite you think you are. It's about what comes out of my speakers. Prove how good you are the old fashioned way, show me.
q. Can I post about my band?
a. Of course. Just try to not post huge graphics, if there is a lot of information please be courteous and post behind an LJ cut.
q. Can I be on this community if I'm not a musician?
a. Yes, if you are an engineer, remixer, mastering tech, or even live tech, you may join and discuss. DJ's don't count in this contest. This community was created so there would be an active support for those who write EBM (and related genres). Everyone is welcome to lurk around, but only members can post.
q. Is this a popularity contest just like the bar?
a. No, take your drama somewhere else. We are 90% unsigned, so who's better than who?
q. Can I advertise for my club night, radio show, magazine, etc?
a. No, unless the magazine has something to do with the writing of the music. If you spam, it'll be deleted.
q. Is this discussion limited to EBM?
a. No, this community covers writing in just about every related genre of EBM. Industrial, Electro, PowerNoise, Noise, IDM, NeoClassical, Darkwave, and Dark Ambient are all included.
q. Can I link MP3's to my post so others can hear about me?
a. Yes, that's what we encourage here most. This is about learning about new music, and what we can do to help you achieve the sound you are looking for.
q. If I have a problem with programs or midi, or anything to do with that, can I post for help?
a. Of course. We're here to help you as much as possible.
That in mind, there are a few additional quidelines to joining this community.
1. No bothering anyone with endless "I'm your biggest fan, listen to my demo" replies. If you want us to hear your music, post it as a post.
2. No quizzes, unnecessary pics, contests or any of that other bullshit. So annoying, and nobody cares.
3. Don't gang up on people who don't write what you like. If they write Drum and Bass, fine. If they write Happy Hardcore, go nuts.
4. No openly ridiculing someone else's music. For christ's sake, they wrote it. Just let them have their say for 2 seconds. Try and help them improve, then eventually we'll all benefit from more great new music.
5. No scams, selling shit, or anything stupid like that. The only exceptions to that rule are if you are a) selling a piece of your gear, b) selling your CD (with an audio sample, of course), or c) selling various merch for your band (that's ok, everyone loves that stuff). Nobody wants your old docs, Marilyn Manson T-Shirts or Linkin Park CDs.
6. If you want to advertise for your project, you must post a clip(s) or a full mp3. No Realmedia, please.
7. Nobody cares about your stupid metal band. This is about electronic music, if your have guitars, fine but no Nu-Metal, or anything shitty like that. Keep discussion to the topic.
8. Do not post any music that you have not written, or has not been given to you to post. Very important. This includes fan remixes, or ridiculously noticable samples from famous bands. ie: Don't sample Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Wumpscut, Covenant, VNV Nation, Das Ich, Hocico, or anything like that. It really makes you look retarded.
9. If you want to be helped with a problem, you have to join the community.
10. If you have expertise in a given problem posted about, lend a hand. We'd do the same for you.
