Writer's Block: Pleasure Your Mate Month

September is Pleasure Your Mate Month. Tell us: how do you like to pleasure your mate?

    View other answers

I can't believe this is the writer's block question of the day!

I'm not in a sharing mood. Suffice it to say I pleasure my "mate" more often than one month of the year;)

    Corner brownies!
I didn't want to spend the $35 for the corner brownie pan, so I "made" my own dividers with aluminum foil.

It didn't really work. But they were still yummy.

Husband suggests using muffin pans. Good idea. But then they wouldn't be corners, would they?
Hm. Are round edges the same as corners? I'll have to experiment next time I make brownies. :)

    Sarah Palin Speech
I watched Sarah Palin speak at the Republican National Convention last night. First of all, I want to punch her in her fucking face. She's a liar and a GODDAMNED BITCH! Second of all, she's a fucking LIAR, and third of all, SHE called HERSELF a PITBULL! "What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick!" Roaring laughter and applause from the dumbed down Republican congregation. Oh, yes, congregation. It's a religious cult and they are all sheep to the slaughter!

First, the crowd George Bush-ed her. Not after every 3-5 words, but after every few sentences or full paragraph, they applauded mindlessly, EVEN IF SHE DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING MEANINGFUL!

And let's talk about meaningful. She said NOTHING on how she is going to govern as VP, nor on how her pick for Pres. is going to lead this country out of economic disaster, how they're going to restore our broken alliances in the rest of the world, or anything meaningful or substantial. It was all rhetoric and pandering!

And that's the VERY thing she accused Barak Obama and Joe Biden of, rhetoric! She said after the rhetoric, and the styrofoam columns are back in the warehouse (Barak's background for HIS speech), there's a lot of nothing being done (paraphrased). How Obama has written 2 memoirs but never authored one single piece of legislation. But McCain has. SO HAS JOE BIDEN!

She accused Barak of using change to boost his career, she accused him of planning to raise taxes across the board, she took punches at his lack of "experience" and his community organization. She said that a mayor of a small town (her background) and a community organizer (Barak) are similar, but a mayor has RESPONSIBILITY. More mindless applause and screaming from the congregation. She made herself seem like she's so experienced, and that she could only expect that anyone who voted for Barak Obama is stupid. She praised John McCain's record in the Senate and she talked about how much they want to drill in Alaska and create new Nuclear Power plants. And how that will be the SOLUTION to the energy crisis. She talked about wind and solar energy, but just in passing. Barak PROMISED that we will be reliant on 100% clean, American produced energy in 10 years. Uh, Sarah, you should really do your homework before you start spilling retarded lies out your pie-hole!

My take on her speech, pure BULLSHIT! It was all rote and there was nothing passionate or meaningful to back it up.

Now, I'm going to get personal for a minute, even though I agreed with Obama that personal stuff is off limits.

THE WOMAN HAS 5 KIDS! That tells me she doesn't know when enough is enough. She's an indiscriminate breeder, which I have absolute contempt for. In this overpopulated world, people SHOULD NOT being having 5 kids. SHE'S one of the reasons this country is so damn overpopulated with RETARDS. Yes, I said it. Go ahead and flame me. Her 5th child has downs syndrome. She's produced a consumer that is going to live off the state and have no (I'm assuming here) productive value to society. She should have stopped at 4 kids, and even that's too many!

I have many friends who are school teachers, and they tell me that the state and federal government spend a DISPROPORTIONATE amount of money on people who are mentally disabled, sometimes violent and dangerous, who will NEVER EVER have a productive role in society, while kids who are gifted and working well above average are overlooked and never done anything for. Kids who could potentially be the next leaders of our country.

I have a Spartan attitude towards things. Interpret that as you will.

And she won't let her 17 year old daughter get an abortion! Well, let me just say that I got an abortion when I was 18 and if I hadn't, my life would have been RUINED! I'm not afraid to say that I am selfish and wanted to grow up and go to school and get educated and have more fun, and there was NO WAY that was going to happen if I had a baby when I was 18!

This is not about her family. It's about her VALUES as a LEADER!

I know this is long, but I have more. She significantly implied that Barak Obama wants to walk away from a fight and retreat in Iraq when we're so close to victory over there. SINCE WHEN? The only way we're going to reduce the violence in Iraq is to LEAVE! She said "Our opponent" - she couldn't even say his name - never once mentioned Victory in his own speech. It's not about VICTORY. It's about a diplomatic solution and not perpetuating any more violence, like apparently you and Mr. McCain want to do!

Well, I'm done. I've heard enough. She's McCain's Pitbull Cheerleader and she's dangerous. She's a loaded gun with a trigger finger. The news called her a torpedo aimed directly at Obama and Biden's ship, and she won't stop until she's got what she wants.

If I were Hillary Clinton, I'd go kick her in her OOPS!

    That is all.

Classes and random thoughts - Edited
Classes start tomorrow! I have a three-hour clinical nutrition class thursdays from 5:10-8:15; the Strategies for Nutrtion Education on Tuesdays from 5-7. Clinical looks like it will be a lot of work, but i'm looking forward to it. It seems to really get into the medical side of things, which might be a bit dry, but also very important to know.

Recently i had a conversation with one of my friends from school. she said some of her other friends were now making jokes about how they feel like they have to eat healthfully in front her. While inspiring people to eat well is not really a bad thing, making people feel like you're always judging them is not. I hope no one feel like that around me. No one needs another "mother" commenting on his/her habits, especially when the comments haven't been invited. Sometimes i might get excited about things i'm learning and babble on a bit, but if it seems like i'm dishing unwanted advice to you, please tell me.

Nutrition is not about one meal, one food or one nutrient. It's about the overall dietary pattern (but isolated nutrients are much easier to study than food patterns, which is why there's so much more research out there). I'm the last one that should be commenting on individual meals - heck, one day at Pennsic i ate a pop tart for breakfast, followed by what seemed like bags of combos!! No one can be a "perfect eater" all the time. I think that's totally unrealistic and no fun at all. The point is not to make a habit of eating that stuff.

EDIT: i should add that i don't mean to say that there are no "good" or "bad" foods. There are. The food industry would like us to believe there aren't, but the simple truth is it's much better to eat some foods than others. (oh dear, this could start an altogether different rant on the current food pyramid and why i think it's more confusing/stupid than the old one - confusion only serves industry, not people) But his doesn't mean you can't ever eat something "bad". Some people are quite good at splurging now and then, without letting it get out of hand. Some find it easier to cut out ALL "bad" stuff altogether, at least to start. Personally, i find it much easier to splurge when i'm on vacation, because then i'm better at not having it seep into my everyday life.

Update of the last several days written over two days and copied here when complete
So Friday I left my desk and walked over to the cafeteria for a sandwich. I ended up joining 2 coworkers for lunch. Then I walked the long way around the building and up the hill to my car. I really need to figure out what the distance is to the upper parking lot. I got to talk to my sister for over an hour, which was awesome. It was the last Friday of summer hours. I guess I could have treated myself to something fun but instead I cleaned. The living room looks great though. I timed dinner perfectly. Seriously, I heard J close his car door and then the microwave beeped to tell me the veggies were cooked.

Saturday we woke at the ass-crack of dawn, packed, and drove J to work. It was pouring buckets of rain by the time we got him to work and I took over the drive to my parents' house. You know the weather is bad when there is only a handful of cars on the road and the average speed of the cars on the S. State Pkwy is only 45mph. I went back to sleep for a few hours. I wish I had slept more than I did because then my Mom wouldn't have annoyed me so much. We were supposed to go visit Grandma Gertrude together. I asked her when she said we'd leave around 12:30. I did some stuff on the computer to pass the time. She made a crack about if I had time for Sudoku I had time to do TY cards. Well, if I wasn't waiting for you I'd be visiting my Grandmothers. So at 12:30 she was waiting for the floor to dry. Then she told me she wasn't going to have the time to go with me. Ten minutes later I was out the door.

It was a good visit with Grandma. Or at least as good as a visit with her can be. She seemed to kinda remember some things. Like I mention that my sister had a baby. She asked his name. I said, "Benjamin Lynch." And she added the Porter. She was watching the Bells of St Mary (which is a nice change from A Few Good Men or the new version of Sabrina). She was telling me what was going to happen next in the story! That was amazing. Funniest thing she said was after I told her I'd been married for three months (about the sixth time I told her) she said, "I guess that is too soon for a baby." That is the part of the good days I like the most, when her sense of humore shows through again. Still it was tough for me. It is always tough visiting her. I don't know how my Mom and Aunt Katie do it all the time.

I did some light shopping on my way back to my parents' house. I didn't have time to visit my other Grandmother and I didn't want to see my mom yet. I even bought some TYs so I could work on them where my Mom could see. Just as I was getting back in the car J called and said he was done with work and heading to my parents'.

After a brief time at the house we went to Kevin and Taryn's bbq. We had a really great time. Only bad part of the night for me was getting hit by a pseudofrisbee thrown by little Erik. It did bruise my chin slightly. Weirdest part of the night was how it was no bugs, no bugs, no bugs and then BUGS. Seriously, they all came out at once. At one point (this is actually just before getting hit in the face) I walked over to Jessy and Amy and I hear Jessy say, "I'm the last to know aren't I" and Amy saw me walking over and said, "I haven't told Sandy yet." I looked at her and said, "You're pregnant again?" Then it became a joke for the rest of the night on who would be the last to know. Funniest part about that is I was telling my parents about it on Sunday and Vin was listening and said, "I guess I'm last to know." How the hell he didn't hear us talking about it Saturday I have no idea.

Sunday we slept in and then eventually went to pick up Grandma Zimmerman and headed to the cabana. Vin joined us. Then Mom and Dad arrived. It was chill. I was psyched to go body surfing for the first time since I don't know when but there were practically no waves. Boo. We ate a lot. I drank some wine. Mostly we just sat around and talked. The drive back to Norwalk wasn't bad once we got on the Meadowbrook.

Monday we went to the NYRF. We had issues with my printer and I had to ask the downstairs neighbors if they'd print the coupon for me. So now they know we are freaks. Oh, and their printer wasn't hooked up yet either so we still didn't get the coupon printed. Luckily we ran into Nickabrick, Neera and Lois walking to the front gate and Neera had extra coupons. With a minimum of telephone tag we first found the Rosenbergs and then Frank, Jen, and Rick. Then we momentarily ran into Theta. Then Lee and Debbie. Then my phone rang and it was [info]anathemad. What a wonderful surprise! They were there too. I was immediately adopted by Andrea. She was adorable but I think she was driving her mother a little crazy. The Rosenbergs left soon after we met up with the Kidds. There was random meetings ups and separatings all day. My biggest surprise of the day was when we went to see Ravenwolf dance and Rook was also one of the dancers. I got dragged up on stage to dance too. It was fun even if I felt awkward (I was having trouble finding the rhythm).

We got home just in time for Prison Break. When I say just in time, I mean we walked in the door turned on the tv and they were doing the "Previously on Prison Break." I lost track of last season. I hope it gets better this season.

Yesterday was work. It was a crazy day. J's day was worse. It started out good. He was done with his work at 2:30. Then he got asked to help someone. Just when he was finishing up helping him at 7 he got another call to go help someone else. He didn't finish work until after 9. He ended up staying at his brother's which made me sad. I'm glad he has someplace to go but I wish he was home with me every night. Grr I hate Verizon.

And now it is Wednesday. I like short weeks!

Regarding Personal Issues in the Media
I wanted to comment on a post by [info]asim here:
    http://asim.livejournal.com/365862.html

I want to thank you for posting this. This is the sort of thing I would not normally see, as I would not be searching the internet for this sort of news.

However, I really appreciate your post regarding this issue. I completely agree with Senator Obama and have been saying myself for YEARS (since the Clinton/Lewinsky mess) that the personal lives of politicians should not matter. I don't care about the personal issues of these people, and I don't see how these issues affect how they govern.

I appreciate and thank you for speaking out on this, as I know that the mass media thrives on controversial "scandals" that have nothing to do with real issues that effect real people. And I wish that the American Public would let the media know that we are sick and tired of these media games they play to try to tarnish the names of the people that serve this country and the families of those people. I am so proud of Sen. Obama for saying what he said and I hope that people start to get the message that this sort of tabloid media coverage is useless and leads to more problems and dumbing down of the people of this Great Country!

Thank you for speaking your mind so freely, Asim! You do us all a service when you write posts like this.

    Just got this e-mail
    Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday was John McCain's 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

    Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:

1 She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.

2 Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

3 She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.

4 Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.

5 She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.

6 She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.

7 How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.

This is information the American people need to see. Please take a moment to forward this email to your friends and family.

We also asked Alaska MoveOn members what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

So Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil. And she's dramatically inexperienced.

In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he's made a very dangerous decision for our country.

In the next few days, many Americans will be wondering what McCain's vice-presidential choice means. Please pass this information along to your friends and family.

    Thanks for all you do.

    Palin
What I don't get is that anyone who would vote for Hillary would vote for Palin. I mean other than being women they have almost nothing else in common. Palin is anti-choice, pro-creationism in the schools, pro-gun. I want to say no one is stupid enough to just vote for someone just because of their gender but I know that isn't true.

And I am amused that she was a beauty queen, albeit for a small town in Alaska.

I wish I was an artist though. I have a great political cartoon drawn in my head. I tombstone with McCain RIP and Palin in a bikini, tiara, and a beauty contestant sash that says Mrs. President. I'm not usually that morbid but can't shake the image.

There ends my political commentary for the day.

So I watched Obama's speech last night. I hadn't really watched any of the convention except for a few minutes of Hilary's speach the other night. Obama is a good orator, I'll give him that. It was a very strong speech. I find it interesting that during elections the gloves come off. There was more than once that I thought, "Oh no he didn't." I think the Republicans are going to be much worse though.

I tuned in because it was a historical moment. The first black man to be nominated by a major party for president. I was impressed that he didn't refer to his race. I found it weird that he never mentioned Martin Luther King Jr by name and only referred to him as "the preacher."

I really look forward to November 5th when this can all be over with though.

I'll never be as good a guitar player as hOOt, nor as good at banjo as my brother, nor a skilled improviser at just about any musical instrument like Rick...

    ...BUT...

...nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can use the instrument of MY VOICE better than I can!  Sure, other people can play their own voices, and maybe mine is no Stradivarius, and there's always more I can learn to get even better, but I'm the best damn musician there is for my particular instrument!  So THERE!

Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list ten things you LOVE that begin with that letter. Afterward, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

Crafting: I love making stuff. Beading, embroidery, collage, and now felting.... these are the things that make my heart go pitter pat!

Cookies: Did you really expect this list to be free of baked goods? I didn't think so!

Chipmunks: Hamsters with racing stripes. Need I say more?

Charles de Lint: one of my favorite authors for over half of my life so far!

Classification schemes: I'm a librarian. It goes with the territory.

Chocolate: why does all the tasty food start with the letter C?

Carded wool: Look, I just learned to felt earlier this month. Is it my fault that I am easily obsessed with new crafting endeavors?

Canning, and preserving food in general: it's very rewarding to know that I probably won't have to buy sundried or canned tomatoes this year.

Cauldron: I have a small cast iron cauldron on my altar, which I've had basically since realizing I was pagan. It is one of the items on my altar which I could not imagine losing, along with my....

Crystal (quartz): one of the few altar items which nobody else can touch. Ever.

Checking it out - Everyday Minerals
I just got my sample package of Everyday Minerals make-up. I ordered a sample pack of foundation - you get 3 foundations, 1 blush and 1 finishing powder/concealer, your choice of colors - for free. I also ordered a 10 pack of mini-eyeshadows for $17. You get 1 full gram of product of each item. They come in these adorable little containers, about 1" in diameter and 1/2" high, with a sifter in the top of the container after you take the lid off. I also ordered a Kabuki brush and a package of "eye buds" - cotton swabs with one pointy end and one round flattened end.

I immediately washed off today's makeup and tried this stuff out. I think I don't understand how to use the foundation so well yet. I LOVE the Kabuki brush. I don't normally use foundation, and I think it's going to take a bit getting used to. One of the foundation colors is too light, but it's not a total waste, because you can mix them to create your own custom colors - and it was free, so I can't complain! I really like the Fair Neutral and the Soft Butter Peach. I also really like the blush choice I made - Plum Dust.

I then tried out the eyeshadows. I tried a color called Morocco first. LOVE IT! I used the Mary Kay brushes my mom gave me from her Mary Kay consultant days. They're still in pristine condition because they've been used so infrequently, even though they're from when I was about 8 years old. The eyeshadow fluffed on beautifully with minimal powdery-excess falling on the sidelines. The color went on bold, which is what I like. You only need to use a tiny bit. I can tell these 1 gram samples will probably last longer than the 2.2 gram powder cakes of Maybelline, Covergirl, Revlon and Loreal I have always gotten.

I fluffed a color called Samba Lesson into the crease with an angled brush (thanx Mom!) and I look like I need to go out to an expensive dinner and dancing. So, no crease shadow for work tomorrow. I then used a dampened eyeliner brush in a color called Smokey for lining over and under the lid. That went nicely. I got a deep line that is not too dark or too thick. I'm sure the more I do this, the more adept I'll get at using the brushes and powders.

I finished off with a highlighter color on the brow bone called Baby Bath. Loverly!

I'm very pleased with the feel of this make-up. it doesn't feel heavy or cakey. It doesn't have the "glow" that I've heard Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals has, because it doesn't have the controversial ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride, which I've heard can cause itching and irritation with continual use. But I don't necessarily need my face to glow. My personality glows enough ;) If I'm too sparkly, it could be overwhelming.

I then used the velvety soft mascara I got from Clinique' a week or so ago and I look like I am ready to go out. I'm going to wear this stuff to bed and see how well it holds up for extended wear. They say it's so gentle on your skin you can wear it to bed. If I don't wash my regular make-up off before I go to bed, I normally wake up with sticky, itchy eyes. So, this is an experiment.

The problem with "regular" make-up is that it all contains talc. My friend who is a marine biologist and has worked for Estee' Lauder and another make-up color lab told me that talc is a serious irritant and that only mineral make-up doesn't have it. So, after reading all of the information from [info]tribaldancer on her experimentation with Bare Escentuals, Aromaleigh and Everyday Minerals make-up, I decided to give it a try.

I'm really happy with the amount of these samples. There's plenty there, as I use make-up so seldom. Though I'll be using it more often working at the gym 4 days a week. I don't necessarily have sensitive face skin, but my eyes get irritated so easily from eyeshadow that has been used a couple of times, as the oils from my skin get on the applicator, the surface of the make-up and it's all just downhill from there. Even the $14 Clinique' eyeshadow got an oily slick on it the FIRST time I used it, even though I washed my face immediately before trying it - bummer. So, no more of any of that stuff for me.

Well, I'll report more about the mineral make-up, and I'm leaving this post unfiltered, in case anyone out there searches on Mineral Make-up and wants other's experiences. Now I'm going to go search for tips on how to properly apply the foundation and what it's supposed to come out like.

I also want to add that I think Eye Candy would do well to add sifters to their little containers of the glitter powder that they sell. That way the stuff wouldn't spill all over the place every time you open it.

I don't know how well these little containers are going to travel yet. I'm afraid if the containers are tipped over that too much of the product will spill out through the sifter holes into the cap area. We'll see the first time I travel with them. Now I have to get a new make-up case to hold all 15 little containers I got, or get rid of all of my old make-up, which would hurt my feelings... I think I need multiple cases for the different colors and categories of make-up. Browns, Purples, and Foundations/Blush.

    [info]ldykatrina gave me a B
Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list ten things you LOVE that begin with that letter. Afterward, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

    1. Beryls, you know, like emeralds

    2. Bees because they make honey

    3. Books because reading is fundamental

    4. Blockbuster movies, at least the good ones

    5. Bowie, because he is Bowie (it really is wrong that I am so in love with a man who is one day older than my father)

    6. Bards, I’ve always had a weakness for musicians but I knew better than to marry one;)

    7. Balynar the teddy bear (I’ve had him for 15 years and I’m waiting for him to become real like the Velveteen Rabbit)

    8. Blessings, as in I am blessed to have so many great friends

    9. Bellydancing, and I really need to do more of it

    10. Benjamin, because he is my awesome nephew and what is not to love!

I couldn't think of a non-cheesey way to add J in there. I wasn't going to say I love beards because he usually has one because I don't love beards. I wasn't going to say boinking J because that is cheating on the meme. Again saying I love my beloved is redundant. But you know I thought long and hard about all the different ways I could use the letter B to say I loved J.
