Streaks; color [21 Apr 2009|01:20pm]

moviepimpdj
Hello there!

My name is Daniel.

I dyed my friend Laura's ([info]danaelaurm's) hair in streaks. (Manic Panic Ultra Violet.)

Purple streaks first )

Her hair is naturally quite blond, so I didn't bleach before streaking, but the purple washed out really fast.

So I bleached in streaks, then dyed them blue. )

(Special effects Blue Mayhem.)

For me, I am planning on this:
-I haven't cut my hair since December.
-Soon, it will be hotter than hell, and I will have nothing else to take off, so I will buzz my hair.
-I bleached it a month ago.
-Once the weather started warming up, I bleached my hair again, then dyed my hair blue. (this was last weekend. We used Blue Mayhem and it ran out, so we filled in the rest with Purple Smoke.)
-The day before I buzz it all off, I'm gonna dye the roots hot pink and take a picture.

Manic Panic vs. Special Effects vs. Punky Color [06 Apr 2009|03:10am]

chromotive
I've had blue, magenta, purple, aqua, orange, and red, all in various shades, over the years (in addition to black, which covers the majority of my head.)  I've used Manic Panic, Special Effects, Fudge, Paul Mitchell Inkworks, and Pravana Chromasilk.

My main color has mostly been deep blue -- usually Manic Panic's After Midnight blue.

Lately I've been looking at other shades of purple -- I want a really blue-purple, not pinkish at all.  It's the color I've really wanted for awhile; After Midnight Blue is great when it's freshly done, but I wanted it just a tad more purple.  When it fades, it's a little too warm of a blue for me.  I've bought it mainly because it was easy for me to find locally.

So I've been shopping around online & considering a few shades of Special Effects and Punky Color -- specifically, SE's Purple Smoke or Wildflower, and PC's Violet Purple.  I've read some reviews, etc., and a lot of people seem to think Punky Color is the best and longest lasting (vs. Manic Panic, anyway).

Any thoughts?

I grew it - I can blue it! [30 Dec 2008|11:39pm]

I posted a shorter version of this post to [info]longhair earlier, but you guys get the full deal with all the pics :)

Seeing as I'm about 95% certain my hair has reached terminal length and I've really missed being able to dye vibrant colors, I decided to say screw-it to babying my hair and I bleached big chunks on the sides of my head and dyed them bright blue. I originally tried this a few months ago but the chunks were smaller and I didn't bleach heavily. Before that I had done nothing buy dye over unbleached hair for about 10 years. This time I took out the big guns - manic panic 40 volume flash lightening. The next day I dyed. Manic Panic Amplified Aftermidnight Blue on the sides and diluted Special Effects Blue Velvet on the unbleached parts (since that was just a touch-up). Overall I am quite pleased but it came out a little too faded and greenish near the roots so I will probably touch that up tonight with SfX Blue Velvet.

after bleaching... [14 Dec 2008|04:14pm]

So the undermost layer of my hair is shit right now. I only had a few bucks to pick up a packet of Aphogee 2step protein treatment and the keratin 2 minute reconstructor. So question, do I put the SFX dye I have in my hair now, THEN use the treatments, or the other way around? What would ensure that my color stays vibrant?

Hey there!
I haven't posted in a super long time...
I've had 4-colored hair for the past couple months, so I thought I'd try to wrangle a few pictures of it.

Now, with less blue. All Special Effects: Limelight, Napalm Orange, Wildflower, bits of Blue Mayhem, but I slapped some Wildflower over that.

reviving dull hair. (product recommendations?) [07 Oct 2008|09:40am]

so it's pretty amazing what i've been able to put my hair through without doing any SERIOUS damage especially considering it's pretty fine, BUT it's lost quite a bit of luster through all this abuse.

you guys have any product recommendations for restoring shine? like maybe if someone's tried that shine serum stuff, or a good conditioner for this, etc. i have dark green hair right now and dark colors look much better on hair that has some kind of luster. (i've looked at memories, and have tried sooo many conditioners.)

Just got a touch up on my color, the stylist went with a deep plum undercolor, which I like a lot! Whee!

This is my first post here, but I'm certain there will be more soon to come as I get progressively more addicted to dying and changing my hair. Hello, everyone! (:

I need some style/color advice here.

It's a strange urge. )

Orange, Punky Colours [20 Aug 2008|02:20pm]

jibberish_talk
Have you ever used an orange colour from Punky Colour?
I used Manic Panic "Electric Lava" before and I loved the result but it's getting harder and harder to find Manic Panic in Toronto, I've called a few beauty supply stores and the one place that I got it earlier this summer there was a fire above their store and they're closed right now because of fire/water damage.

Could you please post pictures of your examples.. their website has none =(
Oh and your experiences with the colour, fading and running and such. =D

OR orange experiences with Directions?

red and blue long hair [03 Aug 2008|09:30am]

[ mood | pleased ]

Friday night my fiance and I redyed our hair and I managed to get some pics. We both have medium-brown hair naturally and we don't bleach. He uses SfX blood red and I usually use SfX blue velvet but this time I tried electric blue. I can't really tell the difference - it looks like maybe it's a touch less purplish but a friend of mine who uses this color regularly swears it's MORE purplish. His hair is about mid-back length and mine is knee-length.

Anyway, piiiiiics! )

So I was meant to dye it green, but things didn't really go according to plan.

Now, a question:

I'll probably be dying his hair again sometime soon [some other color, possibly],and recommendations on what to do/what to use so I'll actually manage to achieve a blondish color, instead of reddish-brown? [His hair is REALLY black, and really thick, and he has kind of Irish thing or something going on {freckles and red body hair in places} so I think that's the reason it won't motherf***** bleach...

Boring post, sorry! To keep it a little less boring, I've added a pic from my college graduation last year when I had my dark dark brown hair. I want it back!

Anyway, my question is about mayonaise. Now, I've heard it's good for the hair, but can anyone explain it to me? What's so good about it? What kind do you use and do you just slather it all over? Thanks for any help!

MIXING: blue-black + yellow = dark green? [14 Jul 2008|07:38pm]
eyeinfection
I have a dilemma... there are no green dyes out there that are dark enough for me. Do you suppose mixing a blue-black color with yellow would result in a decent dark green, or would it just look gross and HORRENDOUS?

For that matter, do you think mixing any blue with yellow in any ratio ever turns out well? Should I try blue-black + lime/spring green? Or midnight blue + lime/spring green? Or some other combination? Has anyone tried this -- ? Please share!

(I dyed my hair a nice emerald green last weekend and the color's lovely but it doesn't suit my complexion. Makes me look like an oompa loompa. Have since determined I need a very dark green.)

This community is so full of delicious eye-candy. I'm so envious!

I've been dying my hair black since I was 13 (I hate my natural muddy brown hair), but a couple of years ago I started dying it red. Three months ago, finally, I went Cruella DeVille on it. =D

I am totally in love with my current hair style. It is truly the best of both worlds (I don't think I could pull of having my whole hair platinum blond, so this is perfect for me).
Still, I have a question, for when I get tired of it: what products do I need to take off the black? I want to try doing it at home because the salon is just too expensive. Also, I will probably want to dye it another color. Do I need to even both sides or can I just bleach the black once and hope the color will unify everything?
Thanks for the help!
