LF Captive/Prisoner Dr

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie to both this community and Dr Who fandom(I've watched the episodes on TV but it wasn't until very recently that I found myself drawn into the fandom in a more involved way) and I'm hoping that you can help me out with regards to a certain genre of stories.

I'm looking for fic that features The Doctor as a prisoner/captive. Perhaps he was captured by our own government and studied/experimented on, or perhaps it was an alien race.

I'm very open minded, so the recs can be gen, slash, het anything you like. I also LOVE AU's and slavefic but I'll give everything a go so please rec away.

Lou:)

P.S. I'm not sure if this is appropriate and if it's not MODS please tell me and I'll remove the request, but can anyone point me in the direction of a good Dr Who writers com/list. I have a bunny that's begging to be written but I need some input from people more versed in this fandom.

Post 'Journey's End', Rose/10.5
I'm a looking for a post 'Journey's End' fic of Rose/10.5 in Pete's World, where it doesn't work out for many many years, then they come together again. Anything along these lines will be great, although there is one inparticular that I've lost, where Rose finds 10.5 working in an elctronic store years after JE.
Thanks!

Looking For Recs

Hello! I'm a newb to this comm, but I'd though I put a request in anyways.

I'm looking for some good Tenth Doctor fics, preferably Gen, but I'm not picky . I'll read just about anything as long as it has a rating less than R.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Looking For Martha/Doctor/Jack Story
I'm looking for a relatively old story, probably from last September or earlier, in which Martha and the Doctor decides that Jack needs a birthday cake/party when he finally lives to be older than the doctor. Of course, they just hop in the Tardis and starting shooting farther and farther in time, and they seem to be having a very fun time of it (I think they may have cake), but the story becomes incredibly poignant as they drop in on Jack at various intervals in his life.

Obviously, to Martha and the Doctor, the whole progression takes half an hour to an hour, but Jack's emotional progression through the story is absolutely beautiful. It was an exceptionally written fic, and I'd like to reference it in some notes I'm making (as things that inspired me to write the piece I'm working on).

Thank you so much for your help.

Asking for fic recs--Chameleon Arch
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for general recommendations, but I'll try anyway. My apologies if it's not appropriate.

I would like to find any and all fic in which a Timelord other than the Doctor or the Master used the Chameleon Arch, particularly if this leads to the Doctor finding other survivors. Did Romana or Susan use the Arch to escape at the end? Is Ianto Jones from Torchwood really a Time Lord without knowing it? (I got this urge from reading an excellent DW/TW fic, The Doctor and Mister Jones by [info]sam_storyteller.) Was some previous companion a Time Lord/Lady without knowing it? Some random joe out there? If there are any crossovers out there with this premise, that would be even cooler.

Thank you for your help.

Second and Seventh Doctor Recs.
I just posted a bunch of old skool Who recs on my journal, and I thought I would share them with you all as well. They are mostly for the Second and Seventh Doctors, but there are a few others thrown in for good measure. I hope you enjoy the stories as much as I did!

Multi-Era Rec Request
Delurking to make a request for fic recommendations.

Two days ago, I put every...single...Doctor Who episode Netflix offered in my queue, in chronological order. I fully intend to fall in love with each and every incarnation of the Doctor. :)

That being said, I would love some fic recs from the various Doctors--I'm pretty well hooked up for Four, but recs for One through Three and Five through Ten would be greatly appreciated. Ships are fine, but gen is good too. Thank you in advance.

Nine/Rose smut fic with a twist?
I've become really intrigued lately with Nine/Rose smutfic (I promise, I'm going to watch Ten soon, really, I just can't shake Nine yet) wherein sex with the Doctor has some sort of unexpected element to it (hopefully one that makes it better). Most fics just have them getting together like any other man and woman and though I enjoy them, I always think "Come on, sex with an alien has to be different somehow."

Not freakishly different, just... something about the Doctor being an alien that makes it something new Rose gets to discover. (And yes, "something different cuz he's alien" really does open up some crack!fic options, I know. :)) I always like fics about there being a telepathic connection along with the physical. Somehow that just helps convey how all the Walls Are Crumbling Down between them and all that.

Anyway, does anyone have some really awesome Nine/Rose recs either along the Psychic!Smut lines, or someone introducing some new, unforeseen insight as to why the Doctor is so cautious about doing the horizontal pretzel? Which still turns out well for all involved? (Although I warn you, I might have read it already. I'm going through this stuff like water. But the fic monster still says FEED ME!)

Because I must admit, the "difference" angle is almost (ALMOST!) more important than smut. Because I've also read some non-smut (but still romantic) fics that really knocked my socks off on that count. I mean, we all know that [info]casirafics's Roundabout is simply jaw-dropping, but one of the things I loved best about it is that it finally explained to me what it meant to be a Time Lord. What it meant to feel the earth moving, and see every possibility in every event, and to be so tied up with responsibility for the entire universe that maybe kissing the girl did get shoved to the back of one's mind now and then.

Anyway, love to hear what anyone has to offer. :)

[x-posted... probably someplace]

I've come here not to rec a fic, but looking for recs of a certain kind of fic. Anything to do with John Smith. I absolutely love the two-parter featuring him, and would appreciate reading any fics featuring him- whether it's Ten reflecting on his time spent as John Smith, and AU where he stays as John Smith or turns into John Smith in a different situation- anything.

Thanks. :)

Asking for some Recs
I've been sorting through all sorts of places but, being new to the fandomish side of DW I'm getting myself a bit lost. :D

So I figured I'd put this out to you all!

Put under a cut due to spoilers for the finale of Torchwood and the current Dr Who: Read more... )

It can be slash, I don't mind, although if there's Ianto/Jack it can't be the main pairing, happy for it to be referred to though. I'm fine with past Rose/Doctor, or past Rose/Doctor/Jack. No Martha pairings please (although I'm happy with one-sided Martha/Doctor).

I love the way [info]cantralian writes as a heads up. I'm pretty sure this type of fic doesn't exist, so if you can prove me wrong I will absolutely love you. :D

- Feel free to remove post if it aint welcome. :)

Looking For Recs
I’m relatively new to the Doctor Who fandom, and started watching the series with the Ninth Doctor. I haven’t really read any fanfic in this fandom so far, and was looking for a few recs for the aftermath of a certain episode.

Over on Youtube, (I live in the U.S.--we don’t get this episode until next week, I think) I just finished watching the season 3 Doctor Who episode titled 42. I loved it, and just wondered if anyone knows of any fanfic that deals with the episode, or its aftermath.

And I also wondered if there were any other fanfics where Nine or Ten are possessed. Just those two, since I've only ever seen this newest series.

It was a Beautiful Fic
I've come not to rec the Doctor but to seek him.

I'm looking for a fic. I recall it being beautiful and I recall finding it somehow through this community but I have hunted and searched and can't find it here. Of course I don't remember the title or the author's name (mind like a steel sieve, me) but it was one of those post Parting of the Ways, recently departed Ninth Doctor walking through fond memories throughout his many lives. One of the memories was of Susan and a pony. Another was Jack, Rose, and himself at a bar. They're drink and he's so full of love for them it breaks my heart. Another is Sarah Jane with plant monsters.

I read it back when I wasn't tagging favorites, oh so long ago, perhaps even last year:-) Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

10th/Rose recs, please?

Hi!

I'm looking for some Ten/Rose fics, with Martha in them (post Doomsday but maybe with an alternative ending where Rose is still with the Doctor or she returns), if it's possible. If not, I would like to read some Ten/Rose, I miss her too much,

thanks!!

9th/Rose Recs?
Hello there!

I’m new to the fandom and I thought that the folks of this Comm could help me. I’m desperate to find and read some good 9th Doctor/Rose Fiction, any rating, though, NC-17 is my favorite, being naughty as I am. Can anyone make some recommendations for me?

Okay, so I'm in a babyfic mood. Anyone know where I can find some babyfics of these pairings:

Stargate Atlantis: John/Elizabeth
Stargate SG-1: Jack/Sam
Law & Order: SVU: Elliot/Olivia
Doctor Who: 9/Rose and 10/Rose

22 December 2006 @ 11:20 pm

Hello!

Since I saw a few posts down someone searching for fics and no one seemed to mind, I thought I'd give it a go.

I'm relatively new to the Doctor Who fandom but I've already managed to misplace the whereabouts of a fic or two I'd love to see if they were continued.

The first one is a Rose and I think Ten pairing. It could have been Nine, but I think it was Ten. It was something to do about the Doctor being captured by some sort of alien being and was being experimented on. However, this experimentation was at the hands of some rogue scientist and the other aliens were horrified once they learned about it. It might have had to do with the Doctor's memories... Anyhow, the Doctor turned crazy, wild almost, and only Rose could get him to calm down somewhat. For some reason I'm thinking feathers are associated with these aliens. (Sorry for the disjointedness and wandering description, hopefully it makes sense to someone.)

The second one I'm looking for isn't really about the Doctor, it's about Jack being left on the satellite. He made his way down to earth or some place and he's basically selling himself to the captain/owner of a spaceship for a night or so, to get passage on the ship. The owner is pretty scary and has all sorts of unpleasant things planned for Jack.

Anyhow, hope it's ok to ask this here and any help would be appreciated, thanks!

The Last First Doctor
The Last First Doctor, by amberite

http://www.whofic.com/viewstory.php?sid=7599

author's summary:
The frightening new adventure of Rose Tyler coming into her own after Doomsday. We will see intimacy, poetic justice, some aphorisms, and familiar unfamiliar places. Not a reunion fic, but did I mention that it travels in time?

A broken TARDIS and broken Rose meet in the Alt Universe. The language is gorgeous, the feeling that we, as readers, are being pulled with Rose into an alien sensorium where the only thead in common is terrible loss and withering pain, but the powerful urge to survive and move on and embrace life again is there as well.

Some drawings and photos are imbedded in the text, and though I'm not a fan of this in general, it's not too distracting, and I imagine some people will enjoy what it lends to the story. Oh, and it's got Mickey and Jake!

Tenth Doctor: "Downtime" by Cryptile
Story title: Downtime
Author: [info]cryptile
Rating: PG-13
Summary: So much for leaving at Christmas . . .
Why You Should Read It: It's quite obvious that some time must have passed between "The Christmas Invasion" and "New Earth" (They even moved the TARDIS).
So, why were they staying? What happened in between? "Downtime" is Cryptile's answer to that and it's magnificently done.
Her take on the Doctor is quite unique, a bit more alien and a good bit more crazy than usual, but in my opinion just plain perfect for the post-regeneration.

Tenth Doctor: "Mockingbird" by icebluenothing
Story title: Mockingbird
part one
part two
Author: [info]icebluenothing
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Rose was convinced -- even though he looked nothing like the man she'd met, this new man was still the Doctor. Unless it was all a lie...
Why You Should Read It: Because it will have you on the edge of your seat. It combines a great, exciting, unpredictable plot with spot on characterizations and dialogs. Just perfect!

multiple recs/Author rec: misscam
(Quite possible, that everyone here already knows [info]misscam's stories, but I'm going to rec her anyway, just in case...)

I could just say, read everything [info]misscam has ever written, indeed I do say read everything [info]misscam has ever written -- here is her fic master list -- but I will point out some of my favorites, too.

Eight Doctor

Story title: Today's Not Over Yet
Author: [info]misscam
Summary: Tomorrow, the world is ending, and today, he is happy.
Why You Should Read It: This story is the ultimate "What would you do if it was your last day on Earth?" for the Doctor (who is able to cheat a little of course, thanks to his TARDIS). Beautifully done, with great references to past (and future) companions.

Nine/Rose

Story title: Measures of Time
Author: [info]misscam
Summary: Another wound of the time war, another fall, just as when Gallifrey burned and she became the last of her kind in the Universe. Just as he did. She alone but for him, and he alone but for Rose. He repaired her then. He'll repair her now. She saved him then. She'll save him now, save them both. She loves.
Rating: Mature
Why You Should Read It: A wonderful Rose/Nine story, giving the basic scenario of "The Parting of the Way" a different turn. But what makes this really outstanding is the way [info]misscam uses the TARDIS like a full character. Done before, but never better than here.

Ten/Rose

Story title: How to Live
Author: [info]misscam
Summary: He's decided she will live. Everything else becomes a matter of how.
Rating: Mature
Why You Should Read It: Read it for the "to die for" Ten-voice, read it for the perfect lines, read it for the angst, read it for the smut... it has everything and then some.

Story title: Ten Lessons the Doctor Learned From Sex and One He Didn't
Author: [info]misscam
Summary: He's always known sex is more than the act itself.
Rating: Mature
Why You Should Read It: As I first stumbled over a rec for this, I feared it would be one of those awful "I try to be funny"-fics or some mindless PWP -- boy was I wrong! It is about sex, all right, but a fic with more insight in a character is really hard to find.

Story title: Come Tomorrow
Author: [info]misscam
Summary: He clearly shouldn't have labelled Rose 'do not shag under any circumstances' quite so strongly.
Rating: PG-13
Why You Should Read It: With a summary line like that, what else do I have to say? Maybe that fun and smut is just the one part, angst, depth and complexity is the other.

Story title: Rest of a Life
Author: [info]misscam
Summary: There is no happily ever after with him. She's learned it. She just wishes she hadn't, that she could live in an illusion of the two of them, for the rest of their lives.
Rating: Mature
Why You Should Read It: Cause it's so sexy and so funny and then [info]misscam will break your heart.

Many, many more stories from [info]misscam, and all great: here

16 August 2006 @ 02:12 pm
Multi-Era/Companions: "Man in the Blue Box" by cryptile
Story title: Man in the Blue Box
Author: [info]cryptile
Summary: The Man in the Blue Box collects children...
Why You Should Read It: This fic is just amazing!
A marvelous view on the Doctor, his reason for picking companions, they reasons for staying and they reasons for leaving.
Just a bit over 600 words, but true and beautiful in every sentence.

21 July 2006 @ 09:09 am

Are people allowed to include fic searches here?

I'm new to DW fanfiction and have only read about 5 fics so far. Anyway, I'm naturally looking for good stuff to read. I'll be looking through the posts here in a bit, but first can anyone recommend anything that fits any of these themes:

1. Rose remains goddess-y after looking into the Time Vortex
2. Looking into the Time Vortex changes her in some way (e.g. I've read this good fic where she regenerates)
3. Roses meets past Doctors or Companions
4. Doctor taking care of Rose (e.g. she could be injured, pregnant, etc)
5. The Doctor's granddaughter turns up
6. Anything where Rose is the one in charge

There are more things I'd like to read (some that aren't Rose-centric, lol) but I think that's enough for now. If anyone could provide links to fics that have particuarly the top two, I'd be very grateful. Hopefully at some point I'll be back with actual recs.

Lanta.

multiple recs
Some stories I dug. Maybe you'll like them too. ;)

Story title: The Sisters
Author: [info]dvlinareddress
Rating: PG
Summary: In the Author's Note it says 'Exploring the Doctor's existence metaphysically through the the women he loved.' And that's pretty much exactly it, but it travels through Ten/Romana, Ten/Reinette and Ten/Rose and joins them together in a lovely way.
Why You Should Read It: Because it's gorgeously written and the last line gave me goosebumps and I just love the idea of it all.

Story title: The Short Revolution Of Time
Author: [info]nostalgia_lj
Rating: PG13
Summary: A what-might-have-happened Girl In The Fireplace story.
Why You Should Read It: Because it's tragic and romantic and interesting and beautiful and argh. Required reading for all Ten/Reinette shippers and anyone who doesn't mind being made to cry.

Story title: Pomegranate Seeds
Author: [info]tenebraeli
Rating: G
Summary: Rose considers the new Doctor, after New Earth.
Why You Should Read It: It was written after only the first episode of series two, but it still stands up to canon- and knowing what we know now, the last bits are chilling. Go read it.

Story title: So Let The Bells Ring Out
Author: [info]doyle_sb4
Rating: PG
Summary: Mickey and the Doctor after Christmas Day.
Why You Should Read It: Because it's about Mickey and he rules, and because it's very funny but with some serious bits that jump out at you. My favourite bit involves Mickey's explanation of what happened after Rose left, when he was wanted by the police- it's a wonderfully creepy idea. And there's some other stuff involving former companions which I won't spoil. :)

Story title: Cherish
Author: [info]nuit_belle
Rating: PG
Summary: One day in Jackie Tyler's life.
Why You Should Read It: There is not enough Jackie fic and there should be. This is about Jackie on a Mother's Day, her thoughts about her dead husband and absent daughter. There is also a lovely bit with Mickey which makes me smile.

Story title: Faces
Author: [info]tangledwood
Rating: PG13
Summary: She can't make connections. (He teaches her a game.)
Why You Should Read It: It's a Jackie/Pete fic, and it's sad and tragically realistic and has probably the best characterisation of Jackie that I've seen.

Story title: Eviction Night
Author: [info]ionlylurkhere
Rating: PG
Summary: "Day Twenty-Nine. Tonight, either Strood or Darian will become the second person to leave the Big Brother house."
Why You Should Read It: Some wonderful fic came out of the Minor Characters Ficathon ([info]mireille719, if you're reading this, can we have another one please? ;) ) and this is one of my favourites. It's about Strood, Lynda's housemate in the Bad Wolf Big Brother house, and it gives him a life and history and then gets you with the last line.

Story Title: The Empty Man
Author: uktechgirl
Rating: PG
Summary: A fic about Dr Constantine and Nancy.
Why You Should Read It: As the author's note says, the central idea is squicky, but it's powerful and well-written and very very good. Is likely to stay with you a long time.

Story Title: More Pride
Author: [info]voleuse
Rating: PG
Summary: Yet I can take the exile's part.
Why You Should Read It: Another Jackie fic- this one's about the time between Rose and Aliens of London, and it's got Shireen in it, who is lovely, and all Jackie fans must read it.

Story Title: Five Things That Didn't Happen To, Because Of, In Spite Of, Or In The Proximity Of Rose Tyler
Summary: Five unrelated AU ficlets.
Why You Should Read It: The first story is my favourite...it stayed in my head for days. But they're all good- there's angst and humour and Adric and Mickey's grandmother and Sarah Jane and everything. If you like AUs and/or Five Things Fic, you have to read it now.

...there's bound to be some I've forgotten, so this post may well get edited. ;)

Forgive me, for I may have sinned
I was wondering if you wonderful people could give me some recs to get me started in reading fanfic. I'm very new to the fandom (as in I've seen all of 3 eps on the SciFi Channel) so fic that explains itself & assumes the reader knows nothing about the canon is great. Unfortunatly, two of the three eps I saw were 'Doctor Dances' and as such I've declared my love for Captain Jack so fics that feature him would also be loved.

I'm squickless, an unrepetant slasher, and crossover junkie as well. So, will you folks help me find my feet in this new world?

Oh, & if this kind of post isn't allowed, delete it and maybe tell me where I'd be better off looking for help.

Danke,

PLS

Title:  Forgotten Roses
Author:  Kyizi
Doctor: 9th
Rating:  PG-13 to R depending on you views
Summary:  The Doctor is being haunted by dreams of a blonde he has never met... or has he?

Why You Should Read It:  Where to start?  This story just blew me away and I have very high fanfiction standards.  It starts with the Doctor wandering the universe as he always does with a new companion named Kit.  But something isn't right and he knows it, though he can't figure out what it is.  It's not until he makes mental contact with an alien who fights back that the memories that have been buried in his mind begin to force their way to the front during waking hours and not only when he's asleep.  And why isn't Jack there?  A question that bother's the Doctor as well.  Meanwhile, Rose is a captive of an alien powerful enough to have all but wiped her from the Doctor's memory.  If that isn't enough to get you to read it, I'll add that this is possibly one of the most amazing portrayals of Rose I've ever read.  Her strength as she fights for her mind and sanity against overwhelming odds is... amazing.

Title:  Noites Dos Sonhos
Author:  warinbabylon
Doctor:  5th
Rating:  NC-17
Summary:  Takes place sometime after Resurrection of the Daleks.  Tegan has decided to stay on with the TARDIS crew, but things are different between her and the Doctor.  Something has changed. In an effort to improve their communication and friendship, the Doctor takes her to Carnival in the twenty second century.  But as usual, they are plunged into trouble from the word go.

Why You Should Read It:  Several things make this great.  One of them is the fact that I've never been happy with the way that Tegan left the show.  It always felt wrong to me.  This is AU, but it's believable AU.  The kind that makes more sense than the show did.  The Doctor goes after her in the warehouse and convinces her not to leave like that, to at the very least sleep on it.  The uncertainty of how they stand with each other is wonderfully dealt with.  The author really has a great feel for her characters.  I also love how she deals with the 22nd Century.  It feels right.  There's just that reasonable mixture of advanced technology based on what we already have with the left overs of an older world all around.  Great fun.  And the plot of what's going on is intriguing, but I'm not going to say anything about that.  I'll leave that for the reader to find out.  *g*

10th doctor - Untitled Ten/Jack fic by [info]rionaleonhart
La la la, no title.

Author: [info]rionaleonhart

Summary: 'Because you can never torment Jack enough!' - a T-rated Ten/Jack fic (no second series spoilers).

Why You Should Read It: So, um, this fic was my Christmas present from Riona, after we had a quick discussion about what would happen if a certain someone had a cameo in Torchwood. And if Jack did something regrettable without a clue that he was the Doctor...

(also, this fic should really be called 'How To Break [info]thegreatesthits Completely in 187 Words Or Less'. just so you know.)

[Tenth Doctor] "Left Behind" by wmr
Story title: Left Behind
Author: wmr [[info]wendymr]
Summary: The Doctor (10) and Rose save Jack from death...again. A post-POTW meeting story.
Rating: PG (PG-13ish)
Why You Should Read It: Absolutely wonderful development of the OT3. Lovely writing, wmr does a great job writing post-POTW Jack and his reaction to meeting up with the Doctor and Rose again.

Multiple recs, Third (season 11) and First (companion based)
Both of these are very long, multi-chapter stories, BTW. But they are my two favorite fanfics on the face of the planet. :)

Story title: Death and Chocolate
Author: Jeri Massi
Summary: The Third Doctor and Sarah Jane investigate strange goings-on at a place called the Royalty House, a chocolate company.
Rating: PG/PG-13 (can't decide which)
Why You Should Read It: Well, all of Jeri Massi stories are excellent, of course! The woman is the queen of the Pertwee era. But this in particular is special. It's very moving but also very dark and disturbing, giving you an in-depth glimpse into the cult mentality that will probably creep you out very much. Wonderfully written and an excellent story for Sarah.

Story title: The Wright Stuff
Author: Tim Pieraccini
Summary: A young man named Conrad befriends Barbara a few years after she and Ian returned to England in "The Chase". Fic is in Conrad's POV.
Rating: PG-13
Why You Should Read It: Because it is excellent and is probably the best portrayal of Barbara Wright I've seen in fanfic anywhere. Note: This is very Barbara-centric. Ian is mentioned several times, but he is hardly present.

Third Doctor era: Multiple Recs
Story title: The Other Side of the Coin
Author: Jaconda
Summary: The Master searches for an alien artifact on Earth and dares UNIT and the Doctor to stop him.
Rating: PG
Why You Should Read It: Jaconda has managed to create one of those rare beasts: an interesting original character. Leto Aulksama is a refugee from a planet that tore itself apart and is now working for the Master in exchange for her life. The story is told largely from her part of view and sheds some interesting light on the Master's character without making him less ruthless or conniving. We also get to see the Doctor and Jo from her point of view. While this story is complete, it does lead into a sequel that has not yet been posted.

I was going to rec just the one story, but was reminded of this other one...

Story title: Sympathy for the Devil
Author: Lady MarchHare
Summary: An injured Master is taken in and cared for by a woman with a few problems of her own.
Rating: T
Why You Should Read It: Sentimental? Yes. But somehow it works. As with the above story, we get a refreshing look at the Master uncluttered by the Doctor's biases, although the Doctor shows up as well. The Master will never be mistaken for a nice person but, the story suggests, perhaps he is capable of caring about something other than himself.

Companion: Planned Obsolescence
Title: Planned Obsolescence
Author: [info]miggy
Sumary: Jack takes any means necessary to save himself.
Rating: PG-13
Why You Should Read It: Because the second POTW aired, I'd wondered if Jack was the only one Rose saved, and this fic gave me that--in spades. Jack is absolutely 100% pure Jack, his plan is genius, it follows on logically from POTW, and it's got dead-on perfect dialogue, and also, it's just damned cool.

Tenth Doctor: multiple recs
Title: What Does the Sky Reply?
Author: [info]cadhla
Summary: Beautiful POTW tag, with Rose coming to grips with the regeneration thanks to an old friend.
Rating: PG
Why You Should Read It: I kept thinking I'd rec'd this before, because it's just gorgeous. And it has Ace. And it's exactly perfect.

Title: Baker Street
Author: [info]rhipowered
Summary: Rose and the Doctor cope, adjust, and move on--but things aren't that simple.
Rating: PG-13
Why You Should Read It: There are a lot of "And suddenly, Rose remembers everything" stories, but what I like about this one is the bits of characterisation that make it unique. Like Ten's pyjama bottoms. Also, I like how Rhi plays with language.

Title: And So We Meet Again
Author: [info]chicklet73
Summary: On Satellite 5, someone is the unwitting subject of a rescue mission...
Rating: PG-13
Why You Should Read It: I am so pleased folks have remembered that there are something like 100 Big Brother houses, all with fully stocked kitchens on the Gamestation. Also, I am just a little bit in love with Jack in this. And yes, I do think flirting like mad is exactly the first thing he would do when face-to-face with a stranger in a natty pinstriped suit. Excellent Jack voice, and just so much fun to read. It almost makes having to wait another year bearable.

Title: All That Is
Author: [info]jeanne_dark
Summary: Watching and learning and finding what matters.
Why You Should Read It: The POTW ficathon spawned a large number of stories with similar plots and themes, but the majority of them have focused on Rose, and her reactions to the Doctor's regeneration. It's nice to see something from the Doctor's POV, and this just does a beautiful job of exploring how he handles the change as well.

Title: Subtle Chemistry
Author: [info]doona_rose
Summary: The Doctor (10) tries to explain to Rose just why he likes Chemistry so much.
Rating: K
Why You Should Read It: The first in a series of Doctor/Rose stories which posits a very believable Tenth Doctor (and added bonus of mental image of Tennant in white labcoat). I love love love how she builds the characters relationship on what we know, grounding it in the characters we know and love, and then spins it off in a way I can see immediately. Plus major props for science as metaphor. Just a charming, charming series.

Title: Open Your Eyes
Author: [info]elen_ancalima
Summary: Rose is having trouble dealing with the regeneration...
Rating: PG
Why You Should Read It: You may have noticed a trend in the rec'ing of POTW tags. Sorry, but obviously until Christmas, we'll be seeing a lot of them in the fandom. That said, I do really like reading different authors' takes on similar situations. In this case, Rose dealing with change. There's one bit that I truly adore in this, and it's how proud Rose is of her mum and Mickey, for their part in helping her get back to the Doctor. I love that bit leik whoa. I also love exactly how the Doctor helps Rose get over the shock of the regen. It ends on a lovely feeling of hope, which I really like.

Title: The More Things Change
Author: [info]icebluenothing
Summary: After the Doctor's regeneration, Rose has adjusted -- but can Mickey?
Rating: G
Why You Should Read It: I absolutely love Mickey being, as always, a page behind. And also the voice of reason. After all, just cos we get regeneration, and even Rose might (fuelled no doubt
Author: her own needs and desires), that's no reason to expect Mickey to just play right along. Beautiful characterisation, and excellent ear for dialogue. Poor Mickey. Time travelling isn't so much a victimless crime, and you can have such empathy for him, here, without him being pathetic. Which shows a lovely light touch. And you feel awful for him, cos while anything can and would happen, Rose coming back to him and them ever being the same again really isn't one of them.

Title: Momento Vita
Author: [info]katemonkey
Summary: She keeps his jacket in her room.
Rating: NC-17
Why You Should Read It: I'm not always so much with the jacket!fic post POTW, but I like how this shows Rose and Jack turning to one another to deal.

Ninth Doctor: multiple recs
Title: Gemini Rising
Author: [info]aj
Summary: She is new, but not so very different.
Rating: PG
Why You Should Read It: Set during "Rose", this is just a lovely look at the Doctor embracing the universe's insistence that he take a new companion, and noticing something familiar about Rose.

Title: Marbella, 1989
Author: [info]the_royal_anna
Summary: Set during "POTW." The Doctor and Rose visit Marbella in 1989. Sort of.
Why You Should Read It: A gorgeous look at what might have been, while Rose is part of the Vortex.

From This Day to the Ending of the World by [info]icebluenothing
Summary: The last shot in the Time War has fired. The Doctor has to deal with the last thing he expected or wanted -- he survived . . . .
Why You Should Read It: I wanna keep [info]icebluenothing and make him write fic for me all the time. Because I just adore his take on the Doctor. This is such an interesting look at what the Time War might have done, and how deeply it affects him and the universe at large. Such a gorgeous look at companions he might have had and lost, and how that loss shapes him, along with the crushing weight of responsibility that he takes on personally, whether its deserved or not. But what I like best is the sense of hope it still ends on, because hope is as much a part of the Doctor as the despair.

Title: (You Know Your Problem?) You Keep It All In
Author: dionysos_loop
Summary: One can be a divisor, too.
Rating: 15
Why You Should Read It: There's been a lot of discussion generated in the last few years in the fandom (moreso lately, obviously, due to the Ninth Doctor being a lot more overly flirty than his previous incarnations) regarding the Doctor and whether or not he has ever actually been portrayed as "asexual" or whether that's how fandom has read into the source material based on individuals relative comfort zones with the idea of the Doctor actually having desires (let alone acting on them). This story kinda sorta takes that idea, turns it up to 15, and makes you snatch your hand back, suck on your scorched fingers, and go "wtf just happened?" right before you go "holy shit, that was amazing."

Title: Memories
Author: [info]xanthelj
Summary: Some men want to remember - while others just want to forget.
Rating: R
Why You Should Read It: If the Doctor is all about Gallifrey go BOOM, then Jack tends to be all about those missing 2 years. And I like how those two are contrasted and compared here, because they both make strong men vulnerable, but also empathetic to each other. Also, I like hearing the Doctor talk about Gallifrey. It's the exact lack of sentimentality that sort of makes the loss more keen. I'm not so much for the psychic!sex thing, but I like the character stuff in the first half of this muchly.

Title: Long Way Around
Author: [info]butterflykiki
Summary: The face is different, the voice is different, but you're still the Doctor. And you still owe me a drink.
Rating: PG-13
Why You Should Read It: Two words: Amanda and Methos (whom I still think of as Adam, due to 'Methos' sounding like a breath mint. Sorry HL fandom...). Lots of crossover-y fun--with a neat twist at the end which I won't give away just yet.

Title: The Archive
Author: dionysos_loop
Summary: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Rating: M
Why You Should Read It: omg creepy librarians of doom! Wonderful plotty gen, with some lovely heroics, character bits, and all in all, reads like a missing episode.

Title: Prism
Author: Rain
Summary: Glass pyramids, weird aliens and human nature...
Why You Should Read It: OMG more plotty gen! I really like the plot, too. The story could use a solid beta, but all in all, a really enjoyable adventure.

Title: Chrysalis
Author: [info]sangga
Summary: They are, both of them, evolving.
Rating: M
Why You Should Read It: Beautiful little character snippets that add up to a gorgeous whole, and I adore the dialogue in particular.

Title: More Than Years
Author: [info]brokensorrows
Summary: Contemplation of the age gap between them.
Rating: U/G
Why You Should Read It: This is more of a sketch than a proper story, but there some lovely stuff in it about what the gap between the Doctor and Rose actually is and isn't, if that makes any kind of sense.

Title: Pull
Author: [info]ratmist
Summary: He's already said his good-byes.
Why You Should Read It: Just a gorgeous look at the Ninth Doctor right at the end. Beautiful play of language, and I love how his voice comes through in the prose.

Title: slightly psychic confessions
Author: [info]casirafics
Summary: Psychic paper can be dangerous.
Rating: NC-17
Why You Should Read It: I wonder if RTD had any idea what smut would follow, when he introduced this little prop. And this is some amazingly lovely written sexy threesome goodness. I love the bruised knees, and the closeness of the TARDIS trio through it all.

Title: The One With The Launderette
Author: [info]__kali__
Summary: A flying visit to Earth to do laundry with Jack Harkness.
Rating: PG
Why You Should Read It: Adorable little Jack & Rose domestic snippet, with nod to a popular jeans advert. What would Jack Harkness fanfic be, without gratuitous nudity?

Title: Mortal
Author: [info]booster17
Summary: What about those people swept up in the Doctor's trail? People have a nasty habit of dying when he's around.
Rating: PG-13
Why You Should Read It: Nifty little peek into the mind of a nameless, faceless victim of the Slitheen in "Aliens of London/World War Three."

Title: It'll Be Alright
Author: [info]sarah531
Summary: For the past year, Trisha Delaney had noticed the signs.
Rating: PG
Why You Should Read It: Such a gorgeous look at a character that's only been mentioned in passing, and even then not as a person so much as a representation of Mickey & Rose's relationship. I love how sarah builds a character out of these references that feels real and substantial and worth learning about, and then uses that character to show us something about the characters we do know from the series.

Multi-era: multiple recs
Title: Time's Scythe
Author: [info]calapine
Summary: The Doctor has one final journey to make.
Rating: PG
Why You Should Read It: It's definitely a "you make your own hell" sort of situation, and I hope that Time Lords don't actually have to go through an afterlife like this, but the concept and execution pretty much blew my ass away. The Ninth Doctor's story was very much about loss, but this story is about fear, and it shows that that's hardly unique to any one incarnation of the Doctor. I found the sequence with the Second Doctor particularly chilling for some reason. And I love the interaction between the different incarnations as a way of dealing with one person who just happens to show ten different faces to the world. All of them running.
