A Quiet Morning at Home, Missing Pieces, Come With Me

This is almost my first time reccing, and go figure, all these recs are Fraser-related (or Fraser-family-related).

Title: A Quiet Morning at Home
Author: [info]dsudis
Pairing: Bob/Caroline, Buck
Rating: G
Length: 787 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This story shows Bob on the morning before his wedding, with Buck helping him prepare himself. It's a very thoughtful little story about the similarities and differences between partnership and marriage.

A Quiet Morning at Home

Title: Missing Pieces
Author: [info]aukestrel
Pairing: Fraser/Smithbauer
Rating: NC-17
Length: 25 pages in pdf format
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is backstory for the (completely and totally awesome) AU "Strange Loops", but it can be read separately, too. I don't know why this pushes my buttons so hard--it's not the hockey thing, because despite being Swedish, I have never watched a hockey game in my life (although between this and Hawks and Hands, my mind firmly associates hockey with gay sex). I think it's that this relationship shows Fraser in a different light compared to his relationship with the Rays. It's not true love so much as buddy-sex, but there's still a trust between them, because they were childhood friends and know each other so well. And my GOD, the sex is hot.

Title: Come With Me
Author: [info]zabira
Pairing: Fraser/Victoria
Rating: PG-13
Length: about 10.000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is a new story, so you've probably seen it announced, but it affected me so much that I just want to make sure as many people as possible read it. [info]zabira shows Victoria to be a complex and human character, with a backstory that explains so much about her. It doesn't redeem her completely--she still does what she does--but it makes me heart ache not just for Fraser, but for her too. They are both so young when they first meet, and seen through Victoria's eyes, Fraser just kind of--shines through. He's straight and true and tries so hard, and sees and respects her a way that noone else has before, and he does what he has to do, but he just doesn't see what his actions are doing to her. It made me cry.

Ping, Tilt, Losing My Religion

*Screeches to a halt and looks around*

Have I made it in time? Have I? Have I missed it? Do I suck yet?

Ok well the new challenge hasn't gone up and I haven't seen these fics recced yet so I'm going to hope I made it in time for the Amnesty Challenge cos I was lame and completely missed the "Fics of my Heart" Challenge the first time 'round *head/desk*

I can't do pretty links so you'll have to bear with me whilst I regale you with copy+paste html I'm afraid.

Took me the past 2/3 weeks to narrow my choices down to just three for the Amnesty Challenge and hence the main reason I was late to it the first time but I've come up with the three I return to read the most.

Title: Ping
Author: [info]cesperanza
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: NC-17
Length: 41k
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because I adore it. The fact that Ray believes he's missed his chance, the semi-stalkerish side that we know Ray has and the fact that Ray K's "voice" is just perfect here. This just got to me and refused to budge from my memory and is one of the first stories I think of when I think of due South fanfiction. I love all of [info]cesperanza's fic but this one is one of the first I read and is definitely my fave.

Title: Tilt
Author: [info]elementalv
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: R
Length: 3300 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is what I call my feel-good fic. The one I return to when I'm feeling low or rather "meh" and need something I know will cheer me up. It was written for one of the [info]getfraserlaid prompts and I adore it. The idea of Fraser in a gay bar amuses me greatly and Ray being considered someone's "little sister" still had me laughing for ages after re-reading it for the umpteenth time. And the line about Fraser and a social life is one of the best lines ever

Title: Losing My Religion
Author: [info]au_kestrel
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: NC-17
Length: 348K
Why I'm reccing this fic: One of the first things I did when I got into this fandom was to hunt out a central archive and get a feel for the writing and style for the authors in it. I found the due South Archive at http://squidge.org/dsa/ (for any newbies who haven't found it yet :D) and, me being me, promptly went off to find my favourite kind of fic. The Epic! I love huge fics. Something I can really sink my teeth into and lose myself in. Especially in cold weather when I want to stay in the warm and curl up with a brilliant fic. Someone else has already recced Anonymous-co's "Busted" (and it's sequel) for this challenge I believe and so I want to point you in the direction of [info]au_kestrel's "Near Wild Heaven" Series the first part of which is actually "Three Christmases" but the first epic part of which is "Losing My Religion". I love this fic completely. The characters are spot on and everyone's included, the sex is h.o.t and it's lovely and long and plotty.

These three may well be amongst my top five faves but there are many wonderful stories in this fandom (and the authors for writing them) and I thank you all for helping to make the due South fandom my favourite fandom of all.

(Hope I've done this right. This is my first time posting recs like this. Given it's technically Monday mods, feel free to delete if I've done something wrong by posting so late.)

Likewise, Dancing Bear, Blind Justice

Title:Likewise
Author:[info]aukestrel
Pairing:F/K
Rating:R
Length:Medium-ish
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because meeting up with a happy F/K a couple of years down the line is, for me, the mental equivalent of a cup of rich hot chocolate and a warm flannel blanket after coming in from the bitter cold. And, like Fraser, I get off on Ray speaking Polish.

Likewise

Title:Dancing Bear
Author:[info]lamardeuse
Pairing:F/K
Rating:NC-17
Length: Medium-ish
Why I'm reccing this fic: I love AUs, and I love explorations into the younger lives of the characters. Something about this story invokes long nights spent around a campfire absently scratching at mosquito bites while joking with other kids with whom you swore you'd be best friends for life.

A brief excerpt )

Dancing Bear

Title:Blind Justice
Author:[info]crysothemis
Pairing:F/K
Rating:NC-17

Why I'm reccing this fic: Ray taking care of a suddenly blind Fraser? Comfort and hotness for the win!

In the Darkness

Title: In the Darkeness
Author: [info]aukestrel
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 6200
Why I'm reccing this fic: God, priest!Fraser and jealous Ray of a questionable background and mob guys oh my! I love Ray corrupting Fraser like this and nnnngh. Note! Is kind of a WIP? The sex is smoking hot as is, but I have hope that she's got more of this brewing in that mind of hers.

Title: Une vie moins ordinaire
Author: [info]aukestrel
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Johnny Johannson (Buried on Sunday/My Life as a Dog)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 312KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because I'm in love with Gus & Johnny.
Those two are just so cute together. And hot! [info]aukestrel is doing an amazing job in bringing those two together again - it's a sequel to Chansons de marin, [info]scriggle already rec'ed here.

Une vie moins ordinaire

Title: Wide Open Space
Author: [info]aukestrel & [info]kelliem
Pairing: Alex Bresnyachuk/Christy Mahon (Getting Married in Buffalo Jump/Somewhere in Paris)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 203KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: I'm really bad with this 'why' stuff ... It's just two lonely men falling in love, beautifully written by two skillful writers and that's about it.

brief excerpt )

Wide Open Space

Title: Islanders
Author:
[info]akite
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Duck MacDonald (Buried on Sunday/Wilby Wonderful)
Rating: NC-17

Why I'm reccing this fic: Two islanders meet in Solomon Gundy - both characters are well-captured, you really get a feeling of the men you know from the movies.

Beside You, The Distance Between, BDTMFH

Fandom: Hard Core Logo
Title: Beside You
Author: Zen&Nancy
Pairing: Joe/Billy
Rating: NC-17
Length: Mediumish
Why I love this: Oh, where to start? Well, for a start this is Joe and Billy, when they're just starting out, told from an absolutely perfect Joe POV. I mean completely perfect, this story is so in Joe and Billy's skins, and although Joe's high on drugs, and they're on this crappy mattress in these crappy digs, and they never communicate normally, they fit, and it's wonderful.

Fandom: due South/Hard Core Logo
Title: The Distance Between
Author: aukestrel
Pairing: Joe/Fraser
Rating: NC-17
Length: Pretty long
Why I love this Story: Ok, so this is on the offchance that one of you hasn't read this story *g*. And if you haven't? What on earth are you doing? Go, read it! This is a post Victoria's Secret Fraser, and a pre film Joe, and it's just so painful, and so real it takes my breath away. Fraser's understandably in a pretty bad way in this fic, and Auk really gets Fraser, gets under his skin, gets this need for punishment and atonement that Fraser has, and Joe gets that, too. Joe, for all of his punkish self delusion, for all of his flaws sees right through Fraser, and the power struggle that ensues is complicated, and hot, and a great insight into two characters that maybe aren't that different after all.

Fandom: HCL/ due South
Title: Burning down the Mother-Fucking House
Author: Sister Wolf
Pairing: None really, Joe/RayK preslash ish
Rating: R for language (dude, this is Joe Dick!)
Length: Medium
Why I love this fic: This had me sold on the premise: Instead of Fraser, Joe Dick is attached as liason to the CPD, and, in his own words. 'My name’s Constable Joe Mulgrew, Royal Canadian Motherfucking Police.  I first came to fucking Chicago on the trail of the spooge-sucking fuckfaces who offed my fucking old man, and for reasons that don't need fucking exploring at this fucking juncture, asshole, I stayed '. So when Ray Vecchio goes undercover, and Ray Kowalski switches places, Joe is understandably confused. What follows is completely wonderful crack a thoughtful meditation on place and identity, using the switch between the Rays to allow Joe to consider the transitory nature of his own existence. There is another story, E-Fucking-Clipse, which follows this one, and is just as special, but if you're looking for a way of spraying coffee on your keyboard, this is a pretty sure bet.

Chansons de marin, Crossroads, Born on Monday

A trio of cross-overs featuring Gus Knickel.

Title: Chansons de marin
Author: [info]aukestrel
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Johnny Johannson (Buried on Sunday/My Life as a Dog)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 120KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: AuK has taken two of my favorite characters and brought them together in a believable way. It's a voyage of discovery for both Johnny and Gus. There's sweetness and tenderness. And did I mention, it's HOT.

Brief Excerpt )

Chansons de marin

Title: Crossroads
Author: [info]kelliem
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Ollie (Buried on Sunday/Masterminds)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 445KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: Ollie is a character we know very little about. Kellie's picks up where Masterminds left off. She gives him a credible backstory and fleshes out his character while keeping him consistent what we see in canon. Gus is a perfect foil for Ollie. Their interactions ring true.

Brief Excerpt )

Crossroads

Title: Born on Monday
Author: [info]akite
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Rollie Saunders (Buried on Sunday/Whiskey Echo)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 31KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: There's not a lot of fic that features Rollie. At least not that I could ever find. Pairing Rollie with Gus works wonderfully. In many respects, they mirror each other, world-weary and a touch cynical. [info]akite brings them together and the sparks fly.

Title:Bell, Book and Mountie
Author: [info]lamardeuse
Pairing: F/K
Rating: NC-17
Length:155k
Why I'm reccing this fic: Even though it's based on a movie I've never seen, I really enjoyed it. The characters are solid and it's got everything. Sweetness, sadness, hotness, magic.

Author: [info]the_star_fish
Pairing: F/K
Rating: NC-17
Length:Part one:43k, Part two:59k, Part three:120k
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because Fraser is broken and I just want to hug him. And Ray knows just how to fix him so I want to hug him too. There's love all through it, but it doesn't get sickly sweet. One of the all time best Au's in my opinion.

Strange Loops, Ghosti

Title: Strange Loops
Author: [info]aukestrel
Pairing: F/K
Rating: NC-17
Length: This is actually a novel.
Why I'm reccing this fic: God, this just BLEW me away. [info]brooklinegirl told me I HAD to read it, and I first I was unsure, but then I got hooked for days and days. It shouldn't make sense (Ray as a introverted, brilliant molecular biology professor and Fraser as his graduate assistant, who smokes and swears), but it DOES and it's really just amazing and awesome and addictive, and you should run and not walk to read it RIGHT NOW.

Strange Loops

Title: Ghosti
Author: [info]hth_the_first
Pairing: F/K
Rating: R
Length: long
Why I'm reccing this fic: I read this not very long ago. I'm actually surprised that there aren't more AUs that break Ray and Fraser up as partners post-MotB. This is one of the rare ones. Vecchio and Kowalski go to Canada to visit Fraser, each for their own reasons, and Kowalski stays. And stays. It's just gorgeously written and beautiful, and I love it. It's like a special treat.

Title: Dry Clean Only

Rating: Nc-17
Length: medium length
Why I'm reccing this fic: And so I totally get to rec my FAVORITE PWP of all times! (Err ... "erotic character study" Although I personally feel that PAP for "Porn as Plot" is the most accurate description. Ahem. /random tangent on classification) This story (which is actually a sequel to another story, Plain White Wrapper, sadly lacking in rimming, but has to be read anyway, because it is just as hot in its own lovable fashion) is just simply one of the hottest things I've ever read. I really don't know what else to say, because I suck as a peddler of porn, but read! You'll love it, or a money back guarantee!

Simply Ray, Three Christmases&Near Wild Heaven Trilogy, Northen Comfort&No Secrets

Title: Simply Ray
Author: [info]ardent_muses
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 80K
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because I've read it several times and each time it brings tears to my eyes. Because it looks at the difficulties Fraser and Ray would face instead of just sugar-coating everything. And because I absolutely love it.

Titles: Three Christmases, Losing My Religion, Sweetness Follows, Near Wild Heaven
Author: [info]aukestrel
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Lengths: 20K, 348K, 303K, 490K
Why I'm reccing this fic: A prologue and an epic trilogy. Each and every character who is in some way important to Due South appears and is perfectly rendered. Everything you need to know about the characters appears in the fic, you don't even need to have watched the show. The evolution of Fraser and Ray's relationship is perfectly natural and amazingly realistic. If Fraser and Ray were real people, this is how they would act. Devote a weekend to reading it fully. It's worth it.

In the Darkness, Fraser in Chains, Waking Up Wrong

Title: In the Darkness
Author: [info]aukestrel
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 6k
Why I am reccing this fic:

Because it hits my priest kink like none other. Because I have a serious addiction to AUs. Because as a recovering Catholic I can voutch that she has her stuff down. Because it is seriously HOT. And because it is so much more than just a PWP. I think that this might be part of a larger work that she is currently working on, but it stands fine on its own. I know that everyone probably read it during [info]getfraserlaid  but I feel as though this one can not be read too frequently!

In the Darkness

Title: Fraser in Chains series
Author: [info]rushlight75
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: up to NC-17
Length: each of the stories individually is around 5-8k
Why I am reccing this fic:

Fraser and Ray K explore their bondage kink. Really, what part of that doesn't sound like something that you'd love to read? *g* Seriously, it is a wonderful exploration of their desires. Fraser longs to loose that control that he always has and Ray wants to be the one who makes him loose it. And because it is a series, you get 8 bits of hotness! (And for those of you who are like me, it is especially wonderful because there is D/S without the S/M, a fact which makes me jump with glee)

Fraser in Chains

Title: Waking Up Wrong
Author: [info]ultra_chrome
Pairing: Kowalski/Vecchio
Rating: NC-17
Length: 5k
Why I am reccing this fic:

And it is stories like this that make me love [info]stop_drop_porn so very much. I didn't even think that I had a genderfuck kink. And, uh, this kind of proved me wrong on that point! Wonderfully still in character, Ray and Ray are still very much the guys that we know and love. Vecchio just happens to be a girl. And he discovers some of the wonderful points of having sex as a girl, which is always just fun!
