The holiday season is upon us. Wow, I can't believe it's December 1st already. Sort of scary, actually. So.. with the Wii coming out, how much are you guys planning on setting aside for some DS goodies this christmas? We can't forget our favourite handheld just because a new shiny toy is rolling in to town now can we? xD

As always the dates posted here are the UK release dates, however availability may be limited and dates may be changed without me being up to date about it. The "Critics Score" is taken from Metacritic, it's a score out of a 100 to give you some insight to what reviewers say about the game. Keep in mind that these are all new releases, so in most cases there won't be any reviews available (hence all the "N/A"s).

The list is tucked away under here )

Take a look at this link - Final Fantasy III site

I've just finished drooling over it. I so can't wait for this game, due for release in 2007 across Europe.

I really need some rpgs to play and next year looks full of good ones. :)

First of all, happy halloween! I hope you all had fun yesterday wether you were celebrating or not :)

Now on to this month's list of games. I know several titles have been delayed in Europe and I'm not sure if IGN's release dates list has been updated to reflect that, so be wary. This month's list should probably be taken more as a guideline.

Nintendo Delays Several Titles in Europe

Star Fox Command and Mario Basketball among those delayed until next year.

Nintendo of Europe has confirmed the company has delayed a few titles for the DS that were originally slated for this year.

Actionloop, which was originally scheduled for release on October 27, will be delayed until an undisclosed date next year. Mario Hoops 3 on 3 (known as Mario Slam Basketball in Europe) and Star Fox Command have also received delays in their shipping date.

Only a handful of titles remain for the DS's 2006 holiday season, including English Training, Sudoku Master, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, and Yoshi's Island 2.

Luckily for me the only one of those I was interested in was Slam Basketball. I'm so glad Yoshi hasn't been delayed as looking forward to that one. :)

I first heard about this game long before it was released even in Japan, as far as I can remember. I was surfing youtube when I randomly stumbled upon a trailer showcasing this quirky little game. It was love at first sight. Imagine my excitement when I heard that it was being translated for release in the rest of the world as well! There is no release date set for the U.K as far as I know. I myself ordered it from videogamesplus.ca.

Your goal is to be rewarded gold medals from Mama for every dish you attempt to cook. You have to do it "just as skilled as Mama!" on every part of the dish in order to get the gold medal, something that can be a bit frustrating at times. So.. how do you do this cooking thing? It's very simple. In this game, your stylus functions as every kitchen utility known to man.

I just picked up the new Opera DS browser for £30 (£27 if you count my GAME discount, hee. *does the "Is a student" dance*)

It works pretty well, considering the small screens and low amount of RAM in the DS (even taking the expansion pak into account).

Speaking of which, I thought I'd mention compatability with the two versions of the browser (DS and DS lite versions). The memory expansion from the DS version works with both types of DS, while the DS lite version only works with that console. I'm not about to go jamming the pak into my old DS to make sure, but that's what the box says.

Loading pages is pretty slow, which isn't great, but it's a lot faster when you disable images. Moving around pages is quite simple with the stylus, and the two viewing modes are good (I prefer the zoomed-in view on the top screen).

It's very annoying that you can only open one page at a time. It means any website that relies on pop-ups won't work properly. And there is no Flash or Javascript support, either. And only JPG and BMP images seem to work, and there's no sound or video.

All in all, it's a nice browser, but probably not worth £30, unless you are really going to be using it all the time. I probably won't use it often, but it will be nice for when I'm in train stations and other such places. I doubt it will work with the wireless on my uni's campus, but I'll be checking that on Monday in any case.

Last weekend I bought 42 All-Time Classics for my DS, I’d been looking forward to this one for a while actually as it seemed like good value for money and something I could happily play for hours.

I’m not disappointed at all. Really enjoying the variety of games. I admit I haven’t got round to playing them all yet but I already have firm favourites such as Mahjong Solitaire, Sevens, I Doubt It, Blackjack, Rummy, Dots and Boxes, Ludo, Word Balloon, Bowling and Balance.

Haven’t tried out the wifi part of it yet but it looks good, been too addicted to trying out all the games and getting all the stamps in “Stamp Mode”.

Change in Packaging

This will only affect European DS owners/lovers, so I thought it was a good story to re-post here.

From DS Fanboy:

Apparently Europeans are going to feel a pinch as shortages of plastic cases means that DS games will be sold in the cardboard cases GBA games are sold in.

These cases will come complete with apology from Nintendo and an invitation to order a plastic replacement case when stock is replenished in December. This news comes from Nintendo of Benelux (Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg), and these shortages are said to not affect other territories such as Japan and North America, as materials used in case manufacturing in those territories differ.

How do you guys feel about that? I personally don't care much for the current packaging of the DS games. The boxes are way too large for what they are carrying. I would have preferred smaller casing, or I'd be fine with getting cardboard boxes if a tiny protective case for the game came with the game box. Old GB games used to come with protective plastic cases, so why not produce that for DS games too? I know you can buy protective cases as an accessory, but being given one for "free" when buying a game would have been super nice.
