The Tampa Bay area is in Hurricane Ike's cone of uncertainty, so I'm worried to say the least.

On that note, I have to commend Bobby Jindal's handling of the Gustav evacuation effort in Louisiana, even if he may have just been keeping another Katrina from happening in an election year. They managed to utilize chartered buses and trains to get people out, but fat chance on Florida's state government doing anything like that. You either have to depend on your car to evacuate and wait in traffic for several hours (Because cars are "freedom", right?) or go to a school gymnasium turned hurricane shelter and hope the roof doesn't collapse on you. To make things worse, Florida authorities have cried wolf so many times that residents in my area will refuse to leave even as the double-digit storm surge starts to come in.

I hate this state.

The only thing that's made me happy all day is I bought a magnetic gemstone for $4. Which is kinda lame.

I have been getting stomachaches since going off one of my medications, but it's not too bad. I do seem to have either a cold or bad allergies today. It discourages me from being productive. I didn't leave the house today. We've watched some Xena today, which always makes me happy:-) Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel better because I might see my friends April and Phil. I'm not sneezing as much now, at least...

Felix started preschool this afternoon and absolutely loved it. He immediately ran off to play with the other children and had to be reminded to come back and say good bye to us, which was good, I suppose! I cried a bit and the atheist looked a bit tragic but it was all fine. :)

Spent the afternoon in Weston buying trashy books for me, stuff for my hospital bag and pyjamas, socks and a lunch box (featuring Daleks of course) for Felix as he will be going in early on Tuesdays and Thursdays to have lunch with them all. We then sat in the car and ate sushi. I wish I had ordered the Yo! Sushi cookbook with my Amazon order yesterday as I really want to make some of my own! Might see if they have it on Play. Am trying to decide between Yo! Sushi in Bristol or Demuths in Bath for my birthday next month. :)

Picked Felix up at three and he was so excited and bouncy and happy. Apparently he was really good and very outgoing and played with everyone and really got into it. Dave and I are both quite shy so it is a bit weird having such an outgoing little extrovert on our hands but we are really, really proud of him and to be honest I really wouldn't want him to be shy like me. :)

A good day! We are catching up with housework now then it is dinner time.

I am so addicted to the scent of lavender right now and bought loads of lavender stuff in Boots yesterday. It is still not enough though - I want to find a lavender cleaning spray (do Method make one?) and a really pungent roll on lavender oil for when I am feeling stressy. Will have a look tomorrow. What I really, really want though are some nice big tubs of actual lavender on my kitchen window sill but I can't work out if it is possible to grow it indoors. :)

Yay, tomorrow! We are meeting up with [info]childeric and [info]sushidog in Bath for the day and I am really, really looking forward to it! :)

  • 11:10 Dropped off Poupée at the vet's office this morning and made it school with about a minute to spare. She's getting her lion cut today. #
  • 11:11 I gave vet my cell number (took me a minute to remember what it was) so that they can call me if there is an emergency. #
  • 11:14 But it's doubtful that a haircut will result in an emergency. I asked them to X-ray Poupée's gimpy paw if they have a chance, though. #
  • 11:15 Hopefully there is nothing seriously wrong with the gimpy paw, like a tumour or anything. But it's been gimpy for a long, long time. #
  • 13:24 Seems Poupee's shave didn't go too well. Vet recommends sedation for her next time. #
  • 16:43 I do not like my job. I always feel tense and stressed when I'm there. Not good. #
  • 16:45 Disliked previous job too, but didn't find it as stressful. Just tedious #
  • 16:47 On my way to pick up Poupee now. #
  • 17:07 First my bus is delayed by stupid drunk guy. Now there's a traffic jam. And I don't have a book to read. #

Video recorders
  rainbow_goddess

04-Sep-2008 @ 9:09 pm
While I very much appreciate my digital video recorder, which I bought before TiVo was available in Canada, there is one thing about the TiVo service that I wish I had. I would love to be able to set up my recorder to alert me when shows/movies/chat shows featuring specific actors were on. For example, a couple of weeks ago I missed a chance to record a movie with Michael Shanks in it. Granted, it looked like a pretty BAD movie (it was about giant, evil, killer wasps, I think) but hey, MICHAEL SHANKS! Daniel Jackson!

Now, Stargate is on every single day. So I'd have to sort through all the Stargate episodes that he was in. But I'd like to be able to search for shows that he's in, as well as shows featuring Paul Gross (and just like Michael Shanks in Stargate, I would have to exclude all the times Due South is on.) And probably shows with other Stargate SG-1/Atlantis actors, just because I know my American friends don't get a lot of the shows that the cast members are in, since most of the actors are Canadian, so I'd be able to record the shows and share them. Not that I would ever do something illegal like upload a recorded show to the intarwebs for people to download, of course.

These are small mobile blog posts from Twitter. The original function of LJ was to answer the question "What are you doing today?" Twitter answers the question "What are you doing right now?" The former is of course the integrand of the latter. I post these to LJ because I want to archive them better and I want my LJ friends to know what's going on with me even when I don't have time/energy to post.

08:28 is it sad that I'm more excited by SLim than Chrome?

College doesn't fix it either

I've just done my first week of classes seeing that I'm off tomorrow.
I made it work enough to go to my classes and stay sane.
I have so much to stress about and all of it is unclear.
My house manager is being a horrible bitch and makes threats to motivate you.
This is a major pain in the ass and I can't make sense of it.
College is a major change. I feel like I'm back in high school.
It seems to be what when I was in special ed the regular schools were like.
The classes are interesting and challenging, they don't blow me away but it is good.
People freak me out. I have a fear of teenagers for one and this triggers my anxiety.
I get almost paranoid and obsessed about something bad happening.
Also I worry that I'm just drifting away from my chance to have my balance.
Having friends and being comfortable around others but also taking my alone time and being at peace with my place socially. It's not impossible.

The Fridgers are out in full force in this deliciously annoying thread about resurrecting poor Glider. I'm sure the guy who made the poll is just joking, but it doesn't help that he refers to her as "the bitch" in it (yes, it's asterisked out, but you know what he means).

ETA: Then someone replied with "Keep the bitch dead." Fucking classy, dude.

music: felix playing with wall-e
Blood tests results are back. I needed to get to 10 to be allowed to go to the birth centre and I managed to get to 10.5. Back of the net! :D

No need to worry about giving birth in laybys on the M5 or calling ambulances or not making it to Bristol on time! I can stay here and then pootle down to the hospital ten minutes away instead in an unhurried and unpanicked manner. Hurrah. :)

Anyway, we have just got back from Cribbs Causeway, where we had a great time surprisingly. Started off with lunch at Nandos, where I had the portobello mushroom and halloumi burger again and um three sides and Felix had chicken strips, which he really enjoyed. We then went to Baby Gap where I projected on to Felix and bought him a 'Paris' T shirt and Ollie got one of their Halloween body suits in bright orange with little bats on it. So cute! :)

After this we went to John Lewis to prod the pushchairs (definitely getting a Buzz) and buy Baby Things so we now have pretty much everything we need and things we don't need as well (organic lavender baby bath for instance). Bought Felix some new shoes in Clarks - the really sweet jungle themed Doodles ones that I have wanted to get him for ages and then was somehow mugged for a remote control Wall-E in the Disney Store as well. Was starting to flag a bit at this stage so finished off with H&M and an unusual trip into Next (I don't like their clothes usually as I think they are just too horribly beige) for Star Wars and Peppa Pig T shirts for Felix before heading gratefully to Costa for a nice sit down by the miniature Red Arrows planes. :)

Am having a bit of a rest then we are off to Tesco to do a Big Shop. Yay. I might buy the new Philippa Gregory book about Mary, Queen of Scots tonight - is it any good? :)

Can't believe that Felix starts pre-school tomorrow. Must remember to buy him a Doctor Who lunch box tonight! :)
