Hurt Locker [Jul. 14th, 2009|01:43 am]

I saw The Hurt Locker today. It was a really good movie for about an hour and a half then I started to get nauseous from all the shaky-cam.

This is what I did to myself last week. Man, it sucked so hard.

Today's the final day to get a free pack of stickers with any order from my store. Juuuuuuuust sayin'.

Portland Zine Symposium is in ten days, July 24 - 26th. Free admission! Say hi to me?

Just like everyone else, I'm afraid I've fallen prey to Twitter's 140 character clutches, which is why the ol' LJ is so quiet. I know, I know. I'm sorry.

Next week: Thrilling Conclusion to my Vibrator Series!

Today my good friend Galen Longstreth got married to her boyfriend Nathan Peterson. When they first started courting Galen and Nathan would email each other knock-knock jokes. The above knock-knock joke is one of my favorites that Nathan wrote. Congrats to the happy couple!

San Diego or Bust! [Jul. 10th, 2009|10:48 am]

indy1725

Long time, no post here at the LJ! I aim to try to make this a more active journal (so long as people are still USING livejournal, that is), and in the meantime, I thought I'd crosspost/update you all on my upcoming trip down South. That's right, I'm going to Comic-Con!

The machinery of fate has aligned in just the right way to allow me to not only attend this year's San Diego Comicon, but to actually exhibit there as well! From the looks of it, I'll be sharing boothspace with Maddox at booth #2646, and I'm sure he's a perfectly charming fellow.

So, what am I planning on doing at Comicon? I'm bringing pretty much my entire catalog of merchandise, from Tarot decks to t-shirts, buttons and my older comics, and will also be doing a lot of promotion for Ellie Connelly, with free buttons for the asking. The Palms Read Here! t-shirts have been ordered, and hopefully will arrive in time to make it to Comic-con, and I'll also be bringing some new button designs.

I'm also going to be taking commissions for sketches on-the-spot, and doing free artist trading cards as well. I'm a bit nervous about that, as it's been a while since I've done commissions at a show, but I'd like to get over that stage-fright. So, think about what you might want me to draw, and if you've got a specific character in mind, please bring visual reference.

Ellie Connelly should be situated in Booth #2646, nestled happily between Komikwerks and Boom! Studios (makers of excellent Muppet comics). When you enter the hall, head to aisle 2600 and head to the back of the hall, that's where you'll find me.

So please, if you're a fan of Ellie Connelly and you're planning to be at San Diego Comic-Con, come and say 'howdy' and collect a free sketch! And if you're lucky and I've got the space, you might even get to enjoy one of the clumsiest, least-credible Tarot readings ever experienced by mankind!

More Fadges [Jul. 10th, 2009|02:22 am]

I'm a pretty big fan of Rockasaurus.

Shameless Begging: Times are rough out there these days, the freelance illustration market has been pretty dang slow for me lately. After a long hiatus, and in an effort to stave off apartment eviction, I finally relaunched the radrobot.org STORE! Now, and for the first time ever, you can find my comics, prints, original works, and yes, even moustache wax for sale in the same spot. Please take a look, and if you are in a position to buy, every little bit would help; thanks much. RAD STORE!

Lots of Stuff Today [Jul. 9th, 2009|03:10 pm]

radrobot

First off, something a little different and more serious than I usually get to do. This illustration is appearing in this week's Portland Mercury, alongside an article about the recent settlement in the case of a mentally ill man who was tasered and beaten to death by the Portland police three years ago. I thought a rough pencil portrait would look better in the negative, as opposed to my usual, clean ink line.

I've done a bunch more of these little ink splotch doodles that I posted about a few days ago; 53 in the last three days to be exact. I've taken to calling them fadges because it's a word I doodled in the same manner a while back, and it sounds interesting (and just kind of dirty enough) to catch the eye and the ear. I think I'm going to put together a little zine of these, maybe when I reach 100+. Hats, or things wearing hats, seems to be a repeating theme in many of these that I've done so far.

Lastly, I just found this picture on Flickr of me looking like the coolest dude on the planet. This is from a photo taken by Sam Guerrero, curator at Tender Loving Empire, and was taken during the opening of my You Better Believe It show opening last Thursday night.

NEW AD BOX: OK, one more thing, I just activated a new Project Wonderful skyscraper ad on www.radrobot.org. (Edit: decided to go with 2 square ads instead, sorry) Catch it while it's free!

You Better Believe It Test Prints [Jul. 6th, 2009|02:00 am]

radrobot

As part of my show at Tender Loving Empire this month, I showed four customized test prints. Whenever I screenprint, I always pull a few initial prints onto some scrap paper, and eventually these scraps pile up with layers and layers of beautiful ink. Sometimes, these layers create an interesting image on their own, but I had a few that just didn't seem like they were going anywhere special, so I added some liquid gold leaf and ink, and there you have it.

The other two can be seen on my Flickr page.

And, here's some ink splotch doodles I did yesterday. I've been watching a lot of Sifl & Olly lately, so there's a weird lookin' Chester too.

Apologies for the lateness, folks. This last week was INSANE. No joke. But it’s all for a good cause ladies and gentlemen, so fear not.
Here we are with the second installment!
