Ficathon announcement!

The first challenge at df_rarepairs is now open.

A "rare pair" is any couple that is unusual, unconventional, or has a significant lack of fanfic or art dedicated to it. Rare pairs can be made up of two main characters, such as Harry/Marcone, or include one or more of the obscure canon characters, as in Aleron LaFortier/Helen Beckitt. Rarely written canon pairings such as Michael Carpenter/Charity Carpenter, Thomas Raith/Justine and Bob/Winifred also count as rarepairs. Basically, if you have trouble finding fic or art featuring a certain ship, chances are it's a rare pairing.

This challenge is not an exchange; just a motivator. Fic and art are due between February 13th (in the words of the mod: "it seems appropriate to have postings for a pairing exchange start on Valentine's Day weekend") and February 28th.

Introducing the new and improved dresdenflashfic! If you've never looked at the comm, or if you did once upon a time and wandered away, now might be a good time to check it out. We've revamped it, done away with a lot of the rules that were in place, and we should be set for a good time and lots more Dresden Files fic to come!

The big things you should know:

1. Both TV and book universes are allowed.

2. Fics can be any length at all -- no minimum, no maximum.

3. Two challenges will be posted on the first of each month. The challenges will remain open for the entire month. I will periodically post reminders about the challenges. You're welcome to write for either challenge or for both.

4. There is no limit to how many fics you write for a given challenge or in a given month. If you want to write half a dozen drabbles for the two challenges, go for it!

5. You can interpret the challenge however you like. I'll give suggestions, but if something else moves you, go with it! Creativity is wonderful.

alright, folks...here's the deal: there's a new fanfiction archive at http://www.whatimind.com . it's still rather...well...empty...so it would be insanely cool if all you fanfic writers would join and post your stories over there. you know how fanfiction.net (and certain other message boards) don't allow nc-17/MA rated stories? well, that's not going to be an issue on whatimind.com. we don't care about ratings. you can post anything and everything. go ahead...you know you want to :)

Well, I DVR'd it, and finally watched it this evening. Was it good? Yes. Was it disappointing? Yes. I felt there was way too much tossed in from the series. This was supposed to be done 10 months before the series even started filming, so why is half of it flashes from the normal episodes?

It was nice to see they completely abandoned the 'Bob is a Fire Spirit' track they attempted to take that I saw in the rough cut. This was much better and more in tune with the books.

The only thing that was a true bonus to me was the extended kiss between Harry and Murphy that we didn't get in either the rough cut, or the 1 hour version.

I'll just leave it saying I was very mixed on it.
