| The solution to gun violence in schools? Putting guns in schools! |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|08:24 pm] |
School shootings getting you down? Want a quick, easy, and potentially almost certainly dangerous "solution"? Well, the Harrold Independent School District's got an idea for you! From Yahoo! News:
"A Texas school district will let teachers bring guns to class this fall, the district's superintendent said on Friday, in what experts said appeared to be a first in the United States.
The board of the small rural Harrold Independent School District unanimously approved the plan and parents have not objected, said the district's superintendent, David Thweatt.
... Thweatt said it is a matter of safety.
"We have a lock-down situation, we have cameras, but the question we had to answer is, 'What if somebody gets in? What are we going to do?" he said. "It's just common sense."
Teachers who wish to bring guns will have to be certified to carry a concealed handgun in Texas and get crisis training and permission from school officials, he said." Right, there's no way this whole thing could come back and bite us in the ass! I mean, it's not like one of the students could potentially get ahold of the gun, or one of the teachers could overreact to a confrontation with a student and pull our his or her gun. Yep, there's no way this could end badly. Also, the article says there's 110 students in the entire system. How big of a problem could they possibly have? |

OK, so we had a tropical storm blow through here not too long ago, and my internet didn't so much as blink. This morning, we had a little thunderstorm (mostly rain, even, not much lightning at all) and my cable modem dies a sudden death. And my phone, because they use the same modem, but the phone going out is nowhere near the emergency that the internet going off is. So. The guy just came to switch my modem out, hurrah! *pets the new modem* |

| With Realistic Fangirl Squee Action!! (and a meme) |
[Aug. 20th, 2008|05:59 pm] |
I HAVE ACTION FIGURES! Rin and I went to the mall last night, and we spent like, an hour looking at comic books at Barnes & Noble XD Then, when we were in the art books section, I found a guide to DC action figures. And, because I'm a complete dork, I decided to see if the Batman action figures I had as a kid were in there (my Batman was, but I didn't find my Joker, which made me a sad panda). So after reading that book, I really started wishing I had some action figures, and I (abruptly XD) suggested we go to Target and look at the action figures because I am secretly five years old. After messing around with the toy animals for awhile (I'm pretty sure we left that crocodile munching on a baby panda XD), we finally stumbled upon the action figures, whereupon my heart promptly exploded with joy. They had playsets! And like, five million Dark Knight Batman action figures, which were basically the same figure painted eleventy different ways with giant, nonsensical plastic accessories XD At first I was disappointed, because I didn't see any Joker action figures (they had a 'Joker's Hideout' playset, but it DIDN'T COME WITH A JOKER. Wtf?). They had a Bruce Wayne action figure, which I think should've come with some attractive sluts (with leg-spreading action?), but it was just packaged with another Batman figure (sadly lacking in leg-spreading action). Then I found Batman and Joker action figures packaged together! And Rin bought them for me (because I'm poor, and she's an awesome friend) along with another double package with Thermo Suit (?!) Batman and one of Joker's clown-masked henchmen (because Joker needs those henchmen to throw at Bats while he readies his shoe-blade XD). Yeah, the Joker action figure wasn't that great (especially compared to the Batman, which was ridiculously detailed for a four-inch plastic children's toy): He has a turkey neck (no, seriously), and it was apparently decided that his scars were a bit too gruesome for a children's toy, so they're nowhere to be found...but I still kind of love him, in all his awkward ugliness XD
Wow, I can't believe I just spent that much time talking about action figures. Seriously, what's wrong with me? XD
Anyway, here's a meme (snagged from eryslash), because I (shockingly) have not done one in awhile. Under the cut:
( Lex Luthor stole forty cakes. That's as many as four tens. And that's terrible. )
... scans_daily is my new god (not that I really had an old one...). Seriously, the things people posted from the DC Super Dictionary are just about the funniest things ever ("Aquaman would like to eat a banana. He likes like long, yellow fruit. But it is hard to eat bananas underwater." XD). And everything else that's posted there makes me happy in my fangirl heart. |

So the dinky little 99 cent store we buy Stacy's endless supply of modeling clay from has been out of stock for the past 2 1/2 weeks or so. She's been reduced to taking her little sculptures apart and redoing them over and over. She's been checking that store every time we pass by. We need new clay. I've just palced an order for 5 lbs of assorted colors of non hardening modeling clay. O_O I'm going to have to dole it out in chunks because if i give it to her like that it'll be gone within a week.
in other news my curiosty had gotten the best of me and i clicked on the pretty ad. Bad idea, i haven't even finished reading the whole thing and I want one like NAU. I wish it came as a cat though. ;) |

When did 5' 5" become short? That's what I want to know, I always considered myself average height. But every time I buy pants now if they aren't petite then the legs are 2 or 3 inches to long. I used to be able to wear regular lenght with no problem, and I'm to young to be shrinking.
This post is brought to you by my new skinny jeans that look great other than the fact they're 3 inches to long.
Now I'm going to eat. Work, then shopping, then hauling fire wood makes one hungry. |

Your result for The Perception Personality Image Test... NBPC - The DaydreamerNature, Background, Big Picture, and Color
You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the colors around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You are a down-to-earth person who enjoys going with the flow. |

I'm having a horrid time focusing today. I think I just didn't get enough sleep. I feel like there are five thousand things I could work on, and they're all just tugging on the edge of my consciousness, and as the month progresses, they will get more pressing and I will wish that, early on, I had taken them all more seriously and not procrastinated.
But...
Yeah.
Meanwhile, my husband's started writing reviews for comiXology, and he wrote one today (about Marc Silvestri's latest) that calls him on being a sexist. Yes, my husband is cool. I grant you that.
And speaking of uncool men, on Shapely Prose, there's a great thread on what men don't see. |
