Help a grad student out with her research! Hi everyone!
I hope it's all right that I'm posting here -- I tried to check with the community maintainer, but it seems you're currently maintainer-less. I'm sorry if this is obnoxious.
My name's Liz, and I’m writing my master’s thesis on female werewolves in recent movies and television shows. I’m looking for folks to take part in a discussion about these characters. Since The Dresden Files had a female werewolf episode in season 1, that means you!
The discussion boards are on my livejournal page: http://girl-werewolves.livejournal.com. Come visit and let me hear from you!
Aged 18 and older only, please.
Thank you in advance!

The Dresden Files Canceled Surprisingly no on else has posted this yet. Acording to this article: http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Roush-Dispatch/Dresden-Sci-Fis/800019821As of August 3, the TV Series, The Dresden Files has been canceled. Pity, Jim seems to have seem some increase in book sales since the show came out - but really, the books are soooo much better. I just finished watching the entire season on DVD. Bob was starting to grow on me but I still like skull Bob better - his sence of humor is more fun! :) I was surprised by the special features - the interviews with both Paul Blackthorn (Harry) and Terrance Mann (Bob) made me realize how funny it was to have an Englishman playing a Chicago Wizard and an American playing an Englishman! I don't remember seeing Paul in anything before but he has a very THICK English accent - it blew me away! | | Friday, May 4th, 2007 | 1:13 pm [beccadg]

Request for Thomas Raith Quotes X-Posted to dresden_files and beccadg. Thomas Raith is one of my favorite characters in the series, second only to Michael Carpenter, and yes that means Harry Dresden comes in third behind those two. I've got two Michael Carpenter icons, but only one Thomas Raith icon. With the Michael icons, one is a quote from Harry about Michael while the other is a direct quote from Michael. I made the Harry on Michael icon. wheresmycow made the Michael speaks icon. For Thomas all I have is a Harry on Thomas icon I made. I'd like to have an icon with a direct quote from Thomas. The problem is I'm having a hard time beginning to choose a quote. So, I'd really like to hear what others like for Thomas quotes. Shannon Butcher's book I just finished reading Shannon's book "No Regrets". I don't usually read romance but this one had enough suspense to help keep me interested. It was a very quick read (about 6 hours on a rainy afternoon) but I liked it.
If you have finished with "White Knight" (as I did right before reading this book), then you might want to try out Shannon's book too. :) | | Friday, March 30th, 2007 | 9:51 pm [libel]

Hi All- I just recently created dresden_daily which will be a Dresden Files fandom newsletter. The goal is to post one edition weekly at first. Hopefully the fandom will grow enough to warrant a daily edition. Current Music: Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstacy | | Tuesday, March 27th, 2007 | 1:49 pm [terioncalling] |
Dresden Mood Theme Posting just in case anyone wants it. I made a Dresden mood theme on my LJ with screen caps from the first five or so episodes plus some of the other scattered shot of the show. If interested, you're welcome to use it as well. Just save the images to your own computer and upload them - don't steal my website's bandwidth, please. kthxbai. Sci Fi's version of Harry Dresden I think Sci Fi really dropped the ball on this one. I've seen more negative comments than positive so far so I have to think that this won’t last long - which is sad because they could have done it right. A few minor changes would have been acceptable but Sci Fi retained the names of the characters (for the most part) and the premise that Harry is a Wizard and that's about it! Take enough subtle detail away and you just don't get anything close to what it started out to be. I just hope this doesn't discourage Jim Butcher. He does a fantastic job writing Harry Dresden and I don't feel this reflects badly on that at all. I just think the producers wanted too many changes and Jim was forced to agree or not have a show. I was hoping that it would encourage folks who haven’t read the books to read them - maybe it will and they will hopefully find a much richer and charismatic universe when they do. The Dresden Files on Sci-FI I haven't read anyone else's reaction to the show and I'm doing that on purpose. I want to get my opinion out here without anyone else's influincing me.
Now that I've said that, I'll be polite and use a cut (cause this might be long and picky and will include spoilers to the books).

Ahoy, matey! Celebrate "Talk Like a Pirate Day" at FenCon Dallas, TX — Talk Like A Pirate Day is an international celebration of pirate culture. FenCon, a local science fiction convention, extends the celebration to Friday, September 22nd, with a day of pirate-themed activities and a concert of sea shanties and pirate songs by Heather Alexander. Celtic musician Heather Alexander, FenCon's Music Guest of Honor, will perform a variety of songs from her new album "Arms of the Sea" which makes its debut at FenCon. This talented writer and performer has been thrilling audiences for over twenty years with a mix of original and traditional music of the British Isles. FenCon, now in its third year, is a weekend-long literary science fiction and fantasy convention with filk music, an art show, charity fund-raising, and much more. Unlike other science fiction events that celebrate actors, FenCon plays host to the writers, artists, and musicians that create the fantasy and science fiction worlds that inspire our imaginations. Honored guests at this year's FenCon include legendary author Alan Dean Foster, celebrated artist Darrell K. Sweet, award-winning author and editor Lawrence Watt-Evans, award-winning Celtic musician Heather Alexander, and best-selling author Jim Butcher. FenCon also features dozens of local authors, artists, fans, and musicians as program participants including Rachel Caine, P.N. Elrod, and the Four Redheads of the Apocalypse. FenCon is three days of fannish fun including discussion panels, open gaming, autograph sessions, parties, concerts, a large merchandise dealer room, and the FenCon Cabaret on Saturday night. More than just a costume contest, the FenCon Cabaret features music, dancing, comedy, and more. FenCon also includes a 24-hour video room full of fan videos, rarely-seen films, and the winners of this year's Hugo Awards for science fiction excellence. FenCon III starts Friday, September 22nd, at noon and ends Sunday, September 24th, at 5pm. This year's convention will be held at the Holiday Inn Select North Dallas off of I-635/LBJ in Dallas, Texas. Memberships are available for the whole weekend at $35 for adults, $20 for youth 6 to 15, and kids 5 and under admitted free with a paid adult. Day memberships are also available at a reduced rate. FenCon's designated charity this year is the American Diabetes Association, in honor of Fan Guest of Honor Judith Ward. Judith passed away in July due to complications from diabetes so all monies raised by our annual charity auction and limited-edition charity art print projects will be donated to the ADA in her memory. Last year's efforts raised over $3500 for the Salvation Army's disaster relief fund for victims of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. FenCon, a fan-operated science fiction and fantasy literary and filk convention, is a production of the Dallas Future Society. The Dallas Future Society is registered with the state of Texas as a non-profit corporation dedicated to the advancement of science, literature, and music for the future of all mankind. For more information on FenCon, our guests, events, and activities, please visit our website at http://www.fencon.orgFor media inquiries, contact FenCon chairman Tim Miller at 469-235-6437. ### | | Sunday, September 3rd, 2006 | 3:30 pm [simple__man]

Dresden Files; Harry Dresden/Karrin Murphy Fandom: Dresden Files Pairing: Harry Dresden/Karrin Murphy Theme set: Beta Rating: G A/N: Written for my claim at 1sentence#1-Walking It's become a habit for the two of them, walking Mouse together in the moonlight, going over the events of their respective days, talking out their problems or Harry's latest case, giving each other the support they never knew they needed. #2-Waltz She feels like a complete idiot, her small, stocky form shoved into black satin and strappy shoes, blonde hair piled atop her head in something she hopes approaches stylish, but all of her fears subside as he pulls her into his embrace, a lanky man in an ill-fitting tuxedo, all legs and arms; if they are ridiculous, at least they are ridiculous together. #3-Wishes He wishes sometimes for normalcy, for something more to offer her, for a calm center in the chaos that is his life; she wishes sometimes for powers like his, for a longer lifespan, for a chance to love him without ruining their lives. Newbie! Have just found this community and am very pleased as I love the Dresden series. Will admit only got interested because of James' reading of the books. Got Storm Front to read before I bought the audio book and have been hooked ever since. Am a little slack though as have only just finished reading Grave Peril, but am at this moment printing out the sample chapters from the Jim Butcher site for the other four books I've not yet read and will be buying them in the not too distant future! Have you read the first three chapters yet? Dead Beat, the seventh book of the Dresden Files due out in hardcover in May, now has some sample chapters up for you to read. Buckle your seatbelts, folks -- this one's a doozy. http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/7/ch1/I think BOB is fast becoming one of my favorite characters besides Harry! |
