There's a reason I no longer espouse the dominant narrative in the trans community, which goes something like this: due to prenatal factor x (genetic, fetal hormones, mother watched too many Chuck Norris movies), my brain was created male; and since it was created male, I have no choice except to think, act, and do as a male. ( Sexual fatalism. Dimorphic destiny. )

I remember even as a child I wondered how one could be friends with the cat, and be friends with the mouse, too.
Even now I don't think my ethics has gotten past this question.

magnetic fields (live) - lindy lou |

I think I've been making myself a little ill with stress. (I've been stomach sick off and on for a week now.) But things are going pretty well. My film seems to be going forward. After seeing something as enormous as The Dark Knight it feels a bit like painting on ivory now, but still the only thing that really fulfills me. I've been drawing a lot, too. Maybe I will post some of them soon. I read Bottomless Belly Button, as well: it's a fantastic comic.
I just wanted to mention a few beautiful things I remember seeing over the last few days, before I talk about Dark Knight.
Walking to the T from my house, I walked past a building with high hedges in front of it. The hedges had a sort of arch between them every few feet, so behind the fence one could see onto the yard as if through a little frame of green. There was a young boy playing alone in a paddling pool just within the hedges. He smiled at me shyly, and splashed water towards me, to hide himself.
Then later, in circumstances I can't quite place, but with the same overwhelming mugginess still present I think I see a pool of frost outside a door; the frost is just unusually white light for a doorlight, but I can't shake the impression that I could walk over it and it would crackle underneath my feet.
When we get out of The Dark Knight we walk from Fenway to Kenmore. Over the Green Monster (Fenway Park) we see flashes of light. John insists they are train sparks from nearby tracks, but I can tell they are further away. We watch the skyline until I'm proven right. There's something about lightening that doesn't just pop like a flash but seems to cling to the air and vibrate like a spiderweb shaking.
( Of course, we all loved The Dark Knight. )
