Green Apple on Wood

Right now I'm working from reference photos. Here is the original...

Green Apple on Wood by jocelynsart from WetCanvas.

I printed the photo at the size I wanted (5x6) and then lightly traced the shape of the apple and the shadow. Then I began layering the colors. The apple itself has yellow, red, various greens and dark blues, with just a smidge of black. I used my electric eraser to keep the highlights white when I accidentally scribbled on them. Then I used red, dark violet and black for the shadow. For the wood, yellow ochre, green and various browns and reds. The texture was made with brown sienna.

Then to blend the colors, I lightly washed with turpenoid applied with a q-tip. It takes away the waxy look of the pencils, but you can still see the layers underneath.

A quick sign and a spritz of fixative and it's done.
