So inbetween calls at work today I'm playing the 100-coin slot on the ship casino. Usually I hit a 30,000 coin win after spending around 20,000, but today so far I've spent about 40,000 and I'm thinking it might be time to throw in the towel for the day and load a saved game.

Anybody ever hit a prize of 60,000 or more, and how many coins did you have to spend to get it?

Hi there, I'm new! =) I'm not a gamer actually, but back when I was little I was absolutely hooked, I mean like major obsessed with Dragon Warrior Monsters 2. I never actually thought to see if there were any more games to play, or even realized that it was part of a series... I know, the title even had the number '2' in it, so I might have been a stupid kid OK?
Then one day I'm just going through random stuff and I come across the Dragon Quest stuff. I make a couple of connections (1+1=2) and have one of those handy dandy "a~ha" moments. Now I'm looking to dive back into playing!
=) I have 2 questions;
Is Joker a good game? People don't seem to talk about it much, even within this fandom. Also, would I like DQ V even though I started with the more spin-off monster based games and not with the main plot/series thing? I'm not usually a fan of this stuff so it's odd for me to even like one game and I'm worried that I'll buy it but it will be so different that I won't enjoy it. Help me out?
Thanks in advance guys <3

I'm writing a review of Dragon Quest V for a homework assignment. lol (It's for a video game development fundamentals class.) Anyways, you can read the review, if you like. The assignment requires sales data, hence their appearance in my review.

The game's been released but I haven't heard much chatter. I'm assuming someone has it by now, so how is it?

I read in one of the FAQs that if you play a downloaded copy they have anti-piracy features and you get stuck on the first boat forever. That's pretty cool.

Anyone know if it's still possible/where to buy Dai no Daibouken manga or anime translated/subtitled in English, Spanish, or French?

I'm taking part in a small discussion about it on the GameSpot forums, but I wanted to expand it to here. For those of you who have played Dragon Quest V (I'm talking about the DS remake, although if you've played other versions it would still be applicable).

Having played through the first four chapters of Dragon Quest IV for the DS, I've decided to post some of my thoughts on them. I've played all the way through the game on the NES, but there are a few changes for the DS version. I'm going to mention both the changes and my thoughts on the chapters in general. Each chapter brings in at least one new main character, explains how they came to be involved in the central quest, and reveals a little bit more of the world and the overarching plot. They vary in length, but none of the four is very long. The DS version starts out with a brief scene of the main hero, unlike the original, which had you name the hero and then basically forget about it until the fifth chapter.

Please ignore the post below if you are concerned about spoilers for chapter 3: I am discussing a cheat and some pro action replay codes.

Hello again,

I thought I would post a question about DQIV DS, Chapter 3, Torneko Taloon's (I'll say Taloon for now because it is how I remember him from DWIV NES) chapter.  I am currently towards the end of the chapter, where Taloon is running his own shop in Endor.  I have used the 'store cheat,' where I used the money that I got as reward from the king for filling his order to buy Cautery swords, selling them for added profit at his own shop, then buying more, selling them, etc.  Now Taloon is at level 12, and I want to kill metal slimes in the cave of the Silver Statuette to gain levels.  I found an action replay code that claims to cause the character to land critical hits on every hit, so that I can catch a few before they (almost always) run away.  Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with the code, and it doesn't work.  Does anyone know what could be the problem with the code?  Obviously it would seem that the code syntax, as I found it, is incorrect, but I also wonder if it is indeed correct, and simply won't work in Torneko's chapter.  I was given the reference for a site called kodewerx.net, but I was unable to access it due to some MIME/compatibility issues.  I will post the code below, to see if anyone knows the problem and how to fix it, but also if indeed it does work, to allow others to see it.  By the way, in my travels, I have collected a bunch of Action Replay codes from the 'net, so if anyone wants me to post them here in this community, I will do so.  Just let me know.

Always Land Critical Hits

120190C8 0000E02B

I'm willing to bet it could be a typo between the 8/B characters or something like that.

In case anyone is wondering why it is I would use the Replay codes, being that DQIV is such an easy game, it is not that I *could* not do it without them.  I've played DWIV on NES start to finish, and I tend to use the codes as needed to override something really tedious that doesn't necessarily add to the fun of the game (ie casino tokens, despite having a winning strategy posted earlier with awesome help, take a huge amount of time for one to amass *huge* quantities).  And hey, sometimes I like to cheat a bit.  Obviously stuff like infinite gold, max health/level/experience are going to really take away from the game, for the purist at least.  But I digress.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?  Also let me know if I should post the Action Replay codes.  I will try to get them down before I'm off back to home in Calgary, tomorrow.

Cheers!!

Hello there, fellow Dragon Quest fans!

I have been playing Dragon Quest IV DS over the last few days, and am doing reasonably well.  I have one problem: I am at the first casino in Endor in Chapter 2, but the existing strategy guides on the subject are not very helpful.  Has anyone so far worked out a way to earn big amounts of casino tokens using a specific strategy?  I know of some ideas in theory, but I wonder if anyone has hit upon something that works really well.  Can anyone out there help me with this?

I would greatly appreciated, as I imagine would any other DragonQuest community members playing the same game.  Ideas?

Thanks.
