| I'm in need of an illustrator for the charity t-shirts for the Thriller dancers that in everyone's mind but Guinness' hold the record of 903 dancers!
I need the Abe the Alien figure and a Stormtrooper in roar pose for the shirt (I have pics of Abe doing it for reference).
If you are an atrist and would like to donate your time for t-shirts for charity, please email me at mcdkimber at gmail dot com and we'll talk. :)
I was informed to please get the shirts OUT so that's what I'm going to do. Got the design, just need the talent. :)
The shirts will be sold to those that danced ONLY (I'm sure there will be shirts for everyone if we beat our own record next year), and I have the list so once the shirts are ordered, I check against the list, and then your shirt gets made.
Can someone draw me an alien and a stormie doing the roar? Please?
Just email me!

| Just wondering -- is there anyplace where I can find a floorplan for next year's D*C? That is, is there a map available that shows where and when events will take place?
I ask only because I don't wanna suffer from cranial overload like I did the first time I went to D*C back in '08. I would like to have some kind of guide so that when I go next year, it'll make forming a plan a little bit easier, and I won't get so overwhelmed when I go again in 2010.
Thanks in advance. | |

| Well, this is the first time that I've logged into old Livejournal in something like a year. The reason for this is that I'm working on something that I feel that some of the Dragon*Con community might have an interest in. I'm working on a novel. Yes, that makes me about as unique as saying, "I have a facebook page." The point is that I'm writing a novel about Dragon*Con. I've attended D*C for 10 years now and I've always enjoyed telling stories about the things that my friends and I have experience during our years at the convention, so I decided to write about it. I'm also one of those people with lofty dreams of transforming from a "writer" into a "published writer." So I've decided that I'll share the novel as each chapter becomes something that I'm comfortable with sharing. It's in no way a set in stone manuscript but more of a near-final draft. At the time of this posting only the first chapter, more of a brief intro the setting, is available but the second will follow shortly. I plan to update the blog with a chapter or two every week, usually on the weekends. What I would like is feedback from people that I don't know who have experienced Dragon*Con. I want to know what you think about it. So please leave a comment either positive or negative. Let me know what you like and what you didn't and what you would like to see. So drop by and take a peek, at http://dragonconnovel.blogspot.comThanks and see you in 2010! Chris C. Wicker | |

| Last year I went as Queen Narissa from the movie Enchanted...
there was another Narissa, and also a Prince Edward or two (plus the plethora of Giselles) that I happened to see in this community after the fact after trying to run into them at the con.
Are they listening? Anyone know where they are on LJ? I'd like to get in touch with them again...
Thanks!!! | |

| Short version is that I built the puppets of George Perez and Peter David that were used at the main Masquerade this year (2009).
I can't find the pictures I took of Peter, George and the puppets which I would like for my records so did anyone else get photos of them?

| Not gonna be busy Saturday, November 14th? Want an excuse to walk around downtown Atlanta in your favorite costume for a good cause?? We're also arranging an impromptu-Thriller dance! So if you were involved in this year's Guiness attempt at D*Con, know the dance by heart and want an opportunity to do it once more, as well as lending your legs and feet for a good cause, join us! Come join us and join hazelrah1's team to Smash ALS again, this year! SMASH ALS!!!It'll be an awesome chance to bond with some familiar Dragon*Con faces, as well as knowing you're supporting a huge fight against a horrible disease. You're not obligated to donate, but if you feel the urge, donate to Mel, primarely, or open up your own page and donate to support your walk! I'm sure many of you have seen Mel around Dragon*Con, and most recently as Abe Lincoln in the Night at the Museum group: She's a big staple in the Dragon*con community, not just the LotR community. Hope to see a bunch of you there! | |

| I just wanted to let people know that they may be charged long distance charges if they called the 506 area code number when trying to make Marriott reservations through the Pass Key system. We were given two numbers to call and the 800 number wasn't working correctly, so we called the 506 number. No one ever told us this number is in Canada and I was charged $10.47 on my mobile bill for long distance.
Maybe everyone else already knew this, but it came as a shock to me.
EDIT: I have unlimited long distance, so I was unconcerned about the strange area code. However, since the number is in Canada, international charges apply. I would have liked to have been told the number was international. Instead, I was told, you can call either of these numbers and reach reservations.

| In one of the dealer rooms at Dragon*Con there was a gentleman making custom fangs for people (I believe he charged $100 in advance and more when you came for the fitting). Does anyone know what his name/business is called and if he is from the Atlanta area? If not, is there someone who does similar work in Atlanta?

| This NY Times article on the Hollywood Show, a big movie memorobila and signing event, has some observations and insights that I think would be of interest to Dragon*Con folks, especially those who are big on the autograph sessions, posing with stars, etc. At The Hollywood Show http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/25/movies/25darg.htmlThere are also quite a few genre folks mentioned. Of particular note is the bit towards the end where the writer talks about the economics of money-for-signatures, i.e. why people do it. | |

| Hopefully this question hasn't already been asked and I'm just missing it somewhere, but I was wondering what the photo usage policy is for pictures from the official Dragon*Con gallery?
I was in the Dawn contest this year and would love to put up pictures of my costume from the official gallery onto my facebook and myspace. Am I allowed to do this or would I be stepping on toes/breaking copyright laws? I'd of course not make any money off them or use pictures of anyone other than myself, and I'd credit the photographer who took the pictures. If I am allowed to use the pictures, does anyone happen to know the name of the Dawn photographer (for the backdrop pictures with the Jesse-#### names) so I can properly credit them?
Thanks so much! | |

| I got a room through Priceline for this hotel next year .. $71 a night. Anyone ever stayed there ? Mapquest says it is only .4 miles away from the Marquis. Of course, if there is a 10 lane highway on those .4 miles it isn't exactly pedestrian-friendly. | |

| Article (no registration required or anything) Highlights - "Froggy, who works up to 40 conventions a year, prices most of his celebrity subjects around $30. The fee is split three ways (with the convention sponsor and the actor) so each get $10." '“At shows like Dragon Con, some people spend three or four thousand [dollars] on photos,” he says.' $3000? How does that work? Do some people spend their entire cons at the photo table? How would one get to that number - by buying individual AND group shots of their favorites? | |
|
| This has been on my mind for quite some time, and after throwing it out on my own LJ and getting a great response, I thought I'd try it here!
Think Masked Ball scenes for 'Marie Antoinette' or 'Casanova'.
It would be strictly fancy 18th century attire with 18th century decorated and styled masks. Bauta masks, half faced masks...etc.
Would anybody else be interested in making this happen?? I think it would be great fun! I also have plenty of music and decorating ideas in mind!

| I apologize if the answer to this question is obvious, but thus far google is not being friendly.
I am trying to get prescription FX contacts for Halloween/future Cons. I have found many sites that carry prescriptions for near-sighted people (prescriptions starting with a negative sign, such as -1.75). However, I am far-sighted and need a prescription with a positive sign, such as +1.75. Anyone know any websites or FX contact providers who deal in far-sighted prescriptions?
Thanks so much for your help!

| Hello all, I was just wondering if anybody has shown art in the art show, and what the process was like, I'm interested in taking a shot at the juried process next year, but it would be my first attempt, so I am very unfamiliar with the process. Any tales/advice/caveats/anything would be appreciated - I'm just trying to get a general idea about what the jury process is like (is it a long proces, is it a tough jury, etc), along with the experience at the con (do a lot of pieces seem to sell, so on so forth). Any info is helpful info.
Thanks! | |

| I am going to my first Dragon Con next year. I have seen the epic amount of First Timer threads, so I have been reviewing them. I have been to cons like the Science Fiction Worldcon, Otakon (in my town of Baltimore) and SDCC, so I have mega sized convention experience. I have two questions that I am contemplating before sending in my pre-registration.
1. Most cons it is worth it to Pre-Register for the con (in time nad money). From what I have read, it may not due to the long lines all weekend (especially if you want to see anything before Saturday afternoon). Is it honestly worth the money saved? Is a better strategy just to wait until Saturday at Noon to Register at the Door?
2. Is the Guest Banquet worth $50 of money? Do guests like Shatner or Nimoy sit at the banquet? Would you actually sit with a guest at the banquet? Most anime cons don't have any sort of banquet element to them and it may be nice to experience one (in nice dress clothes), if I get to meet some of the Guests.

| For those of you who don't know, I have been busy. However, I have also been keeping up with the Livejournal, and I will answer what I can with this message. What I don't answer I cannot answer, so please don't get mad.
First, what have I been doing that has kept me so busy? Do you all remember those little white sheets of paper everyone filled out? Yes, I know they were annoying. Well try this, I have just finished alphabetizing every one of them. That's right ALPHABETIZING 30,000 little white sheets of paper.
Why do I do this? Primarily it is to retrieve all of the pre-registration forms out so I have your paperwork for the next year. If you pre-registered and left with the copy, I need that sheet. E-mail it to me, fax it to me, or mail a copy of it to me, I do not care.
The secondary reason is if there are people who call me saying they paid for last year, and I do not have them entered into the computer, I can find the problem.
The second thing I would like to discuss is the pre-registration side at the convention. I have read all the suggestions, and some of them look like solid ideas that can be implemented right away. I like the idea of having one notebook for signing while having another with the labels only. It never occurred to me, but I have the power to do that. Also, I like the idea of getting rid of the maze in pre-registration, and just have lines to the booths while having larger lettering on the booth. The larger lettering I can do, and I am trying to get rid of the maze. All of the other suggestions were valid, but I have no control over them. So please do not complain to me about them, my hands are tied.
Next, if you have made any changes I need to know, please e-mail me. I would like to have them fixed before I shut the office in August. That includes if you have gotten married, moved, new badge name, etc.
Also if you ordered multiples but did not give us a second name in the comments box, I need that second name.
Last one, I would like to thank all those who have been answering questions for me while I have been absent from the board. There are too many to thank, so this is for all of you.

| I'm flying to Dragon*Con next year and am already looking into flight prices and departure times so that I arrive on Thursday when I usually like to, can get checked into my room and be in line for when badge pre-reg opens. I plan on using MARTA to get to the convention center from the airport.
For anyone here who has done this before, how long does it usually take from getting off the plane, retrieving baggage and using MARTA to get to the convention center? Also, does MARTA have any limitations as to the amount of baggage a person can get on with?
Thanks for any info! | |

| So over on the main website, they've listed the first five official guests for next year. Boy, that seemed fast!! Technically, we're just over one tenth of the way toward DC 2010, and I guess I'm curious...
This past year we had Shatner, Nimoy, and Stewart, among so many other great guests, and my wife asked me, what or who could top that?
So, knowing some of these names are impossible, these are the people that I would slap myself silly to see...
The One and Only Bruce Campbell Richard Dean Anderson Zachary Quinto - double whammy Masi Oka Zachary Levi Either/both Winchester boys... Sir Ian... Any Doctor...
What would top or equal this past year for you? - Mood:contemplative

| I donated blood at Dragon*Con and have yet to receive the information they said they'd send me, stuff like my blood type, cholesterol levels...etc. I was wondering, has anyone else who donated received their info yet? Should I have received it by now or do they just have that many people to process?
Thanks!

| Laurell K Hamilton is already scheduled for DragonCon 2010. I'm of mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the first few books of the Anita Blake series while on the other hand, the last handful of books in the series really turned me off...and if you ever read the books, you'll understand exactly what kind of irony that is.
I already have one book signed thanks to the efforts of a good friend, and would probably like to have another one signed, but the question would be: Could I keep my mouth shut about using smut to the detriment of the plot? I'm not sure I can since that was what ruined the series for me. I could excuse the Meredith Gentry series because smut actually had a purpose in the plot...until I got to one book that started with smut and wasn't even finished with the first scene when I was half way through the book.
Don't get me wrong. I like smut in my urban fantasy as much as the next geek, but preferably not when it overshadows the plot. There are books specifically for smut's sake. If I wanted that, those are the books I would buy. Needless to say, I stopped buying the Anita Blake and the Meredith Gentry books.
When will Jim Butcher come to con???!!!

| This year('09) was my fifth Dragon*con, and I've always tried to get my pre-reg application in by the first deadline, so as to get the best price. For next year's con, though...I'm afraid I might have hit a snag. I'm hoping not, but wanted to double-check, and figured someone else might have one or both of the same questions, so...*shrug*
As I'm getting married in January, changing my last name and moving to another state...what would be my best bet as far as membership goes? When I apply for membership do I put the new name on the application even though it won't be my legal name for another two months, or do I put the "old"(current) name on there and then pester someone after it changes?
Also, with the mail thing, I seem to recall that the first round of postcards generally goes out around February? If this is the case, then my address will be changing between when I would normally send in paperwork/payment, and I will most likely not know the new address by that deadline.
If I register pre-wedding will I have to do extra paperwork and pay a transfer fee to change the name my badge is under? Am I better off just waiting and paying the higher price later on? I remember a post this past year about sending in the proper information later on with memberships purchased online, is that something I can do?
Thanks! | |

| Anyone else think it would be fun to have a Food Track at D*C? I'm reluctant to mention it, because then someone will say "Sure, go ahead and run that" which would be excruciatingly difficult from Colorado... but I keep coming back to the fun that could be had.
Alton Brown is local - and all the science he works in to "Good Eats" would fit with the rest of the tracks. Ted Allen has the Science of Food Detectives, again with the science. Marc DaCascos is The Chairman on Iron Chef America, and was The Crow for a while (miss that show!) and has done several Sci Fi type movies.
I know I thought of other ideas randomly, but just wondered if anyone else would think it fun and/or stop by for a panel or 2...

| Why did this year's eternal member registration start 30 minutes to 1 hour after onsite and other registrations had already opened.? I was under the impression that eternals are considered VIPs. Granted our line was not long; but, it is kind of sad that onsite registration opened before the eternal registration line did. This meant that people just walking in off the street were done before our door was even open.
This will be the 3rd year in a row that something has gone wrong in the eternal registration line whether it was computer problems or a delay in registration or other issues.
So basically what i am askin is just what is the benefit of being an eternal????

| I would dearly love to see Alexander James Adams and SJ Tucker appear at the con next year. Anyone else think this would be the most amazing thing ever?
I was so excited by the changes to the Filk Track in 2009, and I think it would just be unbelievably wonderful to have these two luminaries appear. Can I get a "heck, yeah!"?

| I'm looking for folks from Wisconsin who go to DragonCon. Just for a meet up, if possible. I am in Madison. | |
|
| This is just a general impression that I get from my own experiences running the MMO track, but it would appear that a very large part (if not an outright majority) of the Dragon*Con community doesn't get news and information from online sources, or at least not the online sources that I frequent throughout the year.
Assuming that my supposition is incorrect, aside from the LJ community and the Dragon*Con website, itself, , where do Dragon*Con fans go throughout the year for info on what is happening at D*C as well as other conventions in the area? I've seen mention of a couple of convention related websites out there, but aside from that, I'm really curious as to where folks hang out online during the year.

| As I haven't seen any other posts like this lately I'm not sure if there's an embargo on asking the community for pictures others may have taken of yourself, but I checked the community rules and didn't see anything so here goes. I've already saved an awful lot of pictures that I have found from this year's con but I'd love to see any others, so Did you take my picture? We were: Friday- Poison Ivy (Cartoon, Bruce Timm version) & and Harley Quinn (harley took her hood off after a while and people still wanted pictures with us so you may have one of those.) Saturday- Knockout & Scandal Savage. (As far as I saw we were the only people cosplaying these two) Sunday- Batwoman & The Question (Renee Montoya) ( Reference pictures under the cut )Thanks people! | |
