| I’m organizing a panel on the challenges of adaptation of modern supers into the Steampunk/Neo-Victorian universe. Do you draw a comic? Are you a fan who cosplays a super hero that you admire or have you created a character of your own (nudging at the Emperor of the Red Fork Empire) then this is where you can show off your stuff!
I’m looking for about four to six panelists and a room full of attendees. If you’re interested on being on the panel, drop me a note and we’ll start brain storming!

| Science fiction and fantasy author Neil Gaiman has confirmed he will be writing an episode of Doctor Who for Matt Smith's second series as The Doctor. Gaiman broke the news in a special message sent to SFX Weekender as part of his acceptance speech for winning Best Comic at the SFX Awards. Over the years SFX, and its readers and their votes in the polls, have always been very kind to me. I thought I’d return the favour with what used to be called, in journalistic circles when I was a boy, a scoop. As anyone who’s read my blog knows, I’m a big fan of a certain long-running British SF TV series. One that started watching -- from behind the sofa -- when I was three. And while I know it’s cruel to make you wait for things, in about 14 months from now, which is to say, NOT in the upcoming season but early in the one after that, it’s quite possible that I might have written an episode. And if I had, it would originally have been called “The House of Nothing”. But it definitely isn’t called that any more. Gaiman's works include The Sandman graphic novel series, Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book. He has won a Hugo Award and the 2009 Newbery Medal. His involvement in Doctor Who has been rumoured for a while. [source] http://gallifreynewsbase.blogspot.com/2010/02/gaiman-confirms-he-is-writing-for.html | |

| I'm attending Dragon*Con for the first time so I have a bunch of questions... Here is my 20 Questions! Answer them if you dare muhahahaha! 1.I'm arriving on Wednesday so what places to see and eat in the area? I'm staying at the Hyatt. 2.Are the beds in the Hyatt really that uncomfortable? 3.Does the Hyatt have a laundry area like Embassy Suites where I can take a load of clothes to wash? 4.Does the Hyatt have a breakfast buffet? Any good? 5.What time does Pre-Reg happen on Thursday? 6.What is the best time to wear a costume? At night or during the day? 7.Is there one location where all the costumers hang or is it spread out over all four host hotels? 8.What is the best way to pack for a costume? Or two?! 9.I know SDCC has their own masquerade and photo area, does Dragon Con have something similar? 10.Is there a Bank of America near the Hyatt? 11.Has anyone ever mailed stuff to themselves at the hotel? 12.Any Internet Cafe's in the area? 13.Does the Dragon Con dealers room have dealers that actually sells comics?! 14.Which hotel has the Star Trek crowd? 15.If I wanted one good meal each day what restaurant would that be? 16.What is the average price for a autograph? And will the star let you take their picture? 17.What day is the parade? 18. Would visiting the World of Coke be cool to do on Thursday? 19.Will there be shuttle service to all four hotels? 20.Which is the best hotel to costume watch? Thanks! ---------------- Listening to: Christina Milian - Call Me, Beep Me http://foxytunes.com/artist/christina+milian/track/call+me%2c+beep+me | |

| I'm not talking about the Marriott, I'm talking about the "Marquis Towers" on either side of it. You (usually unknowingly) walk past these every time you take the skywalk between the Hyatt and the Marriott. sparr0 mentioned these towers as potential gathering/photoshoot places (the otherwise-buried list- with pics- is here). My question is, has anyone tried to use these? Would they be available any day of the con or only Friday, if that? How strict is security there? | |

| Does anyone know what is going on now that they have replaced the director? I am wondering about Miss Klingon 2010, I had signed up with the old director but I am looking for who I should sign up with now. - Mood:curious

| The new Costuming Track Director does not have an LJ, so he asked me to post a question for you all. He's working hard on the track lineup for next year, and he wants to know what people want to see. What panel topics would make you come out to the Costuming Track? | |
|
| Over the past couple of years, I have enjoyed meeting all the MST3k guests immensely. Since we've had most of the Cinematic Titanic crew (Joel, Frank, Trace, and Mary Jo), I was wondering- what are the chances of getting Michael J. Nelson and Kevin Murphy this year? Granted, as I am doing an MST3k-themed costume, I'd be happy with any of the show's cast attending. But I just figured maybe we could show Mike and Kevin some love this time around. Thoughts? Opinions from any con staff? | |

| I wanted to warn other D*C goers of some fraudulent charges that have appeared on my debit card this week by the Marriott. Yes, it's possible with all the internet transactions we make these days that someone got my number and just so happened to use it at the Marriott Marquis High Velocity bar and the Marriott Atlanta Airport restaurant but I think the coincidence is too great.
I used my debt card at High Velocity around Dragon*Con and noticed a charge for about $20 made on a day while I was at work. Thinking it was maybe a charge finally going through from con I let it slide, since check card transactions are like checks - the vendor has 180 days to cash it. But then an identical amount was charged to my card but from a different Marriott here in Atlanta. I thought well maybe they double charged for my drinks by accident. Nope. When I called their accounting department the representative said that charges were made twice this week at both bars and the card was presented, not keyed in. This is impossible as I have the debit card in front of me and work evening shift on both dates it was "presented".
I know it's not possible to pay several hundred dollars in cash for a room there and a credit card is needed for a reservation but I would be especially wary of using a card at the Marriott bars and restaurants since obviously my card number was fraudulently used. Luckily the bank is issuing a new debit card and crediting the funds back, because the Marriott refused to credit back these identical charges. - Mood:irate

| Some of my favorite guest the past few years have been ones from the Adult Swim programs. Since it seems their panels are pretty popular and they are also based out of Atlanta, it would be possible to get some musical acts that are affiliated with A.S. to come to DragonCon. For example:
1. Dethklok - A no brainer. I' ve heard other people on this board say they would love to see them, which is no suprise since they rock and are awesomely funny. Also, they play metal which is a popular music genre amongst the DC crowd. I think they would be a huge draw.
2. Unknown Hinson - AKA Stuart Baker, he is the voice actor who plays Early Cuyler, the main character from the cartoon Squidbillies. Hinson has a huge cult following for his musical act, playing a style of country/psychobilly in the same vein as Rev. Horton Heat and Hank III. 3. DangerDoom - Not from an Adult Swim show per se, but they did an Adult Swim concept album a few years back called "The Mouse and the Mask." Rapper MF Doom from the duo also makes references to things like Star Trek and Logan's Run in his lyrics. Plus, I do believe they also reside in Atlanta. I'm not really a big fan of rap, but these guys are outstanding.

| [source]Kai was born in St Asaph on the 4th of September 1975, and was raised by his parents in the beautiful town of Llanrwst, which is in the heart of the picturesque Conwy Valley in North Wales. All of Kai's family come from and still live in Llanrwst, and some of Kai's best mates live and work there. Kai went to school at 'Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy' and has nothing but happy memories of his time in school. As well as football and sports Kai had a natural confidence to perform or "show off" as he says, often playing the class clown Kai quickly became involved with the school drama group and staged many a production with them. Kai graduated from Mountview in 1998 and went straight to work at Stafford Castle playing "Ariel" in "The Tempest", Kai has since gone on to become an associate actor at "Clwyd Theatr Cymru" Wales' premier theatre company, appearing in over fifteen productions for them, Kai has performed all over Wales with various companies in a variety of roles. Kai then broke into television on the welsh language channel S4C playing "Bob Lewis" in the award winning "Treflan" from this he played the part of "Kev" in the long running series "Tipyn O Stad" After playing "Kev" for three years Kai moved back to London where he made his west end debut playing the role of "Harry Secombe" in "Ying Tong a Walk with the Goons". Not long after that show closed Kai landed the role of "Shiner" in "Rocketman" where he played opposite Robson Green, "Torchwood" started filming in the April of 2006 and Kai has played the role of "Rhys" in three series, the show has gone from BBC3 to BBC2 and the third series will be shown on BBC1 in summer 2009. The show broke all records for viewing figures on BBC3 and BBC2, and series 3 promises to be another awesome adventure for our gang of alien hunters in Cardiff. Kai is engaged to actress Sarah Annis and lives in London. | |

| Just curious if anyone is planning any belly dance activity (aside from the drum circle) for Dcon 2010?
I believe last year there was a belly dance show thrown together at last minute for the Silk Road track, but I wasn't able to participate due to scheduling conflicts.
Any news on belly to-dos for this year?

| James Marsters has been added to the guest list for this year.
I'm not a fan, so for all you fangirls (and boys) out there that are infatuated with the guy, please don't take offense! Why does he get added to the guest list every single year? I don't wanna knock the guy's career, but he's hardly a staple in the sci-fi genre. If anything, he's on par with the Battlestar Galactica people, but they don't get invited back year after year (and as much a fan I am of BG, I wouldn't want the same actor coming back year after year after year--I'd want some new blood!). I'm guessing his main appeal is among Buffy fans. I'd think most of them would like to have other stars from Buffy attend rather than the same person every year. What's so special about him? Again, I'm not trying to criticize, I seriously want to know what the appeal is that he's pretty much got a standing invitation to DragonCon every single year?
For me personally, I'd much rather have a guest who has NEVER EVER attended come this year than to have someone back who has been every year for the past 4-5 years (or more, I may be wrong).

| Just a head's up for those who are holding onto rooms, in the hopes of transferring them:
For the Marriott, if you booked through that f*cked up passport system they used last year, you WILL NOT be able to transfer it to another person's name. I have an extra room, and attempted to transfer it online. The only thing I could change was the billing information. After trying several times, I called customer care to have them do it. Even the chick there couldn't change the customer info. Now, for me it's no big deal, as I'll just go with my friends to check-in and take care of it that way. The only way you can dump an extra room is to cancel it completely (unless you have friends that don't mind if it stays in your name, and you have the time to check-in a second/third/etc. time), which means it won't go back into the D*C pool.
Yet one more reason to complain about the outside reservation system. >:-(
|
| I sometimes read Fan to Pro and noticed this post on using con panels for career-related research. I've only made it to one D*C and noticed there's a dedicated Writing Track, but do any others have panels that would fit within this theme? One costuming panel I went to had a good discussion about going pro. I'm just wondering what else might be out there... | |

| Please someone create a Dragon*Con countdown app for iPhone. It would provide Dragon*Con some free promotion and would be useful for us as well. It could simply be a countdown on the main screen (Days, Hrs, Min, Secs) on the main screen and have an information button in the corner that would go to an informational type screen that would serve to provide a brief description about Dragon*Con answering the 5 W's as well as provide the main Dragon*Con website URL as well as provide the Dragon*Con LiveJournal URL (of course). - Mood:creative

| Some of you may have heard that Wizard tried to put on a con here in Atlanta a few years back. But they went about it all wrong and had to pull out because they wanted it to go head to head with Charlotte's Heroes Con. You might also be familiar with the little one day Atlanta Comic Convention held about 4 times a year. Well, huge news for Atlanta comic fans today: Wizard just bought Atlanta Comic Convention and is going to turn it into a 3 day con!!! It makes a lot of sense really because the little one day con did a great job of lining up great dealers and had a big turn out, so Wizard's con gets to start with those contacts moving forward. This sounds huge. I just hope they keep it in the city of Atlanta. I recently commented on someone else's post that Wizard cons were looking more like DragonCon, and they were said to be looking to accumulte more cons. I thought DragonCon would be something on their rader. I guess I was right about them wanting to put something on here. As long as it is not scheduled against DragonCon or HeroesCon in Charlotte, this will be huge! http://www.wizardworld.com/atlantaannounce.html | |

Pre reg is running really high compared to last year. So DragonCon is considering a
membership cap. This would mean that there would be NO onsite registration. So if you know
for sure you're planning to come, be sure to get your badge now.

| Hello all.. Woo hoo, I'm super stoked. Only &#@ more days... The only thing is that I don't have any friends who feel as passionate as I do about going to D*C, so needless to say, I'm going alone! =o)
With it being my first time and not knowing what all to expect, should I bother bringing a costume? I definitely don't want to be left out, but then I dont know what to expect (if that makes sense)?!? For those of you that are much more experienced, can you give me some insight? I'm a little bashful sometimes, too, but at the same time, am the easiest person to get along wtih? I definitely DON'T want to be locked up in the hotel room and want to meet new people, too. I want to get the most out of this as much as possible.

| We have a group here on LJ called DropByDragonCon. DropByDragonCon is all about cheering on and supporting all of its members in their pursuit of a healthy body. Mainly it is about me cheering and I am very good with the cheering. ;) There are 230 days left until the Friday we all stay hyped up for every year. You know that feeling: Arriving at the hotel...heading to the badge line...seeing all your con buddies...going through the program...Aaaah! Yippee! That is just over 32 weeks away. Make this the year you wear that fabulous costume that you keep saving for "Next year". Stop waiting and take that step! 2010 is the year to wear that costume...you get stopped for photos...people ask you how you made it...someone buys you a drink(assuming you are of age and are amicable to accepting a drink)...and you have a great DragonCon. Best ever! M http://community.livejournal.com/dropbydragoncon/- Mood:cheerful

| With all the new baggage fees, security measures, flying sounds complicated. So I was wondering if anyone can answer these questions:
1. Anyone know a good time to book a flight? March or April?
2. With the new baggage fees rising to $100 or more can anyone recommend a 2 pieces of luggage for both Carry-on and checked? Is one personal item bag like a messenger bag still count as a personal item?
3. Are mp3's allowed to use during flight?
Thanks! | |

| This will be my husband and mines first Dragoncon. I am getting excited even though it is months away. I just started my change jar for 2010...in hopes that we will have money together and not have to depend on the last couple paychecks lol. Anyone else getting money together or starting to get excited? What sort of things do we need to bring besides clothes and costumes?

| I am thinking about going to Dragon Con (not by plane), but by train (the Crescent). I do know it is cheaper to fly or drive out of Baltimore to Atlanta. I was wondering if anybody else was going down by train on September 2nd (that is when it leaves Baltimore and most of it's route). We can meet up in the Cafe car and talk some along the way. | |

| i remember my second year at con i saw a movie called "amy strangled a small child" by a guy named joe christ. at the time, it was one of the most appalling things id ever seen. i would very much like to see more of this guys work now that my mind is fully twisted and mature. upon looking into his current whereabouts, im told that after continuing to make films through 2005, he passed away last summer. perhaps some sort of tribute is in order? | |

| Is there any way of getting this film played at dragon con or the creators as guests? I just saw it yesterday after hearing about it for months and it is the best film I have seen in 2009. Its for free on Hulu.com The films web site http://www.DoubleEdgeFilms.com./After checking around on line a bit it seems this film was really saved by the fans. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071804/ | |

| Joel Hodgson (the founder/original star of MST3k) appeared at Dragon*con with his newly created "Cinematic Titanic" crew back in 2008 (I think it was 2008, or was it 2007?). Anyway, he just did a recent interview where he proclaims Dragon*con his favorite convention, calling it more "pure" than SDCC. ;) Link: An Interview with MST3K and Cinematic Titanic's Joel HodgsonCouldn't resist and had to share. ;) | |

| Hi,
So, this year will be only my second time going to Dragon*con. I went two years ago. This year, am planning on going as Kahlan Amnell this year. I would really like to go as her from Episode 1x22, but I haven't been able to find any choker that remotely resembles a rada'han. Has anyone ever seen one and know where I could get one?
If I end up going as her in her regular costume, where is the best place to get cheep fake knives or daggers?
|
| I was wondering if anyone knows who those photographer guys where who where standing outside of the Marriott (you know the outside area at the cross walk) taking pictures this past Dragon*Con . Where they official D*C guys or some other photographer guys? If it is the second does anyone know their website? - Mood:complacent

| The postcards are out, and the post office is already sending some back for bad addresses. If you have not gotten one, e-mail me. Actually, you really don't need it as long as you have photo ID, but if you are paranoid contact me.
The Eternal postcards are not out yet, but will be going out soon.
I have sent e-mails to those who ordered multiple memberships but only have given us one name. If you are one of them, or know one of them, contact me.
