Questgivers Hello! You may remember us from way back when, not too long after last year's Dragon*con, when we proposed the idea for a new activity - having people in those MMO quest costumes actually giving out quests, and having prizes to go with it. Well, we have official word from the MMO track that QuestGivers is an official part of the track. Our party will be on the schedule and we'll have official swag and lots of other shiny stuff. So... Who's in? Full info can be found at questgivers, but the basics are that if you want to be one of the costumed people giving out quests, please send an email to dc.questgivers@gmail.com with the following information: Name (can be your badge name) Game(s) Costume(s) Bringing Quest/Want One Of Ours One thing to keep in mind, we will approve all quests just to make sure that they don't break any rules of the con/hotels, so if you want to bring your own, be sure to get them approved. In the coming days/weeks, we'll be posting "Here's what you need to know" entries, listing costume ideas, quest ideas, etc. We're also looking for more artists and vendors who would in some way like to get involved - if we can have people come to you as part of quests, if you want to donate swag, etc. If you're an artist or vendor and would like to be involved, please contact us at the above email. No Hughes? I heard that Adam Hughes won't be doing DragonCon or ACE anymore because of some bad experience last year.
Does anybody know anything about that or can confirm it? | | Thursday, May 8th, 2008 | 9:50 am [aprylrae]

Need a room at DragonCon? A friend of mine is looking for hotelmates. It's at the Marriott. Fri-Mon. She got the room at $164 a night, so the more people (ideal is 7, including herself) the less. So asking price is around $93-95. Her internet is down so she asked me to pimp out the information.
Though, no smokers or drugs. Drinking is totally fine. And no weirdos. Yes, I know that this is DragonCon so we are ALL weirdos in one shape or another...but you get the idea.
Questions, comments, blah blah blah: email at oryonstar@gmail.com
thanks in advance. See ya there.

"The Price of Tea" painting! Greetings D*Con Fans, In case you don't know me, I'm Kristen, art-rep for CJ Bloomer and Nydwyn Green Dragon Studio. CJ has been choosen as one of the artists to be in the art show and we will also be present at a bazzar table, so be sure to stop by the table and the website ( www.nydwyngreendragon.com ) and say hello.
Some news on the comic front. We have decided that the first printing of "The Price of Tea" will be in a very limited edition (only 100) 26 page book. They will be unveiled at DragonCon along with two promotional mini-posters. We will have to wait a little longer for the sample inking, but CJ has completed the first full color painting related to "The Price of Tea." What makes this even more awesome is that it is also the first look the public has to the main character and a hint at the story line. And for your pleasure I present the painting: (You can visit the "Exciting News" page on the website to see a larger version.) This is a huge painting: 20" x 28" and it will be advailable to see and purchace framed in the DragonCon art show. I love to see art born.... Hear from you all soon! NOT COMING Sadly, everybody's favorite kabuki fan-dancing ONI will not be making it to this year's Dragon*Con. Recognize me yet? The reason I won't be making it this year is because on May 25th I will be leaving the country to report to my Permanent Duty Station: the naval base in Sasebo, Japan. I'm going to be an Engineman aboard the LSD-46, USS TORTUGA. I may have mentioned this previously, but I thought I'd bring it up one last time before I left...which'll be in about two or so weeks. I'm going to miss all you guys at the Con, as I've been on staff for almost seven years now (this would have been my seventh), and I've seen Dragon*Con change and grow over the years; seen the good and the AWESOME the con is capable of. Through it all, the staff of D*C has been a little like an extended family; albeit a borderline-psychotic one, but that's why I loved you guys. I felt like I fit in, like I had somewhere outside of the norm where I belonged. You guys gave me something wonderful, and I'll never forget the times I had attending/working this con. The first D*C I ever went to was in '98...I went with a friend and we didn't have a room. 2000 came around and I wanted to return, but I didn't want to have to pay the then-outlandish fee to get in so I got on staff working Autographs. From there I went to the Brit-Track, then run under stellabambino. Last year I managed by some miracle to get on the Anime Track staff, and that was my last year attending Dragon*Con. I had a great time, and although I was without a room and slept all of maybe an hour and a half over the course of the entire con it was still a wonderful experience. I can only hope when I get back to return and see just what you've all been up to since I left. If any of you who know me would like to get ahold of my contact information so we can keep in touch while I'm deployed, feel free to drop me an email sometime. It'd be nice to hear what's going on with things while I'm away. It's been like a long, strange, wonderful dream...but for now I have to wake up and take care of my future. I look forward to the time when I can live in this world again. Thank you so much for everything, and farewell! Current Mood: sadCurrent Music: REMEMBERANCE - PSYCHO LE CEMU | 1:09 am [idiocencratic]

Need to get rid of ticket and hotel reservation I was planning on going to DragonCon this year but I am not going to be able to take the time off from school. So I have a membership that I paid $50.00 dollars for.
I also have a hotel reservation at the Hilton. It is not con rates. The reservations are from that thursday to that tuesday. It is a king sized room that includes breakfast. The rate is $229.00 a night on the executive floor.
I thought I would offer the reservation here if someone wanted it.
If anyone is interested in any of these things please email me at idiocencratic at gmail dot com. | | Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 | 8:43 pm [rick_day]

Star Wars vs. Sports Saw this on YouTube and had an immediate flashback to an argument I had with the sports editor at my college newspaper... and knew people in this comm would enjoy (bad acting and all). A few questions about the con. This is my first time going to Dragon Con. I'm not planning on staying at a hotel since I live an 1 1/2 away but I was wonder where is the best place to park? I've been to that area of Atlanta before but it's been awhile.
Also I was wondering around how much do the autographs cost in a ball park price range?
Do the celeberity guest also do photo ops like at other cons?
I'm not that much of a costume person and probably won't be wearing one and was wondering would I be out of place or would there be other people around not dressed up? | | Monday, May 5th, 2008 | 4:40 pm [cunningminx]

Polyamory at Dragon*Con? Hi, guys!
I've proposed a few polyamory-oriented panels/talks at Dragon*Con. Unfortunately, they were rejected as not being appropriate to any particular track. I think that's accurate, and I don't blame the organizers for making that call. I'd still like to find a way to get some polyamory information into Dragon*Con--does anyone here have ideas on how to frame the proposal so that it might be accepted? How/where would you like to hear about poly at Dragon*Con, if at all?
Any advice on framing the proposal would be most appreciated; thanks! | 11:03 am [countessmary]

q about guest of honor banquet Hi there,
This will be the first time me and two of my friends will be going to D*C. Is it worth it to go to the Guest of Honor banquet? What happens there? Who generally shows up? What's the dress like? Would we miss out on other stuff if we go?
Thanks! | 3:36 am [ninepointfivemm]

I decided this year that I was going to go as Rose Red from Fables (From the Pirates of Upstate New York issue of Animal Farm), and I was wondering two things:
1. Is anyone doing Fables?
2. Would anyone recognize this costume? I'm trying to convince a friend to come with me as the gun-toting Goldilocks as well, but still no success yet. | 11:15 am [animonita]

BURLESQUE AND VAUDEVILLE AT DRAGONCON 08! BIG CITY BURLESQUE AND VAUDEVILLE WILL BE PERFORMING AT DRAGONCON 2008!!!
You read it right ladies and gents! The bodacious babes of that all-time favorite all-retro burlesque and vaudeville troupe will be gracing the stage at DragonCon 2008! . . . and that is not all. . . . We have 5 guest spots open for out-of-town performers and maybe 2 MC spots. . And now the nuts and bolts under the cut....
<lj-cut> If you are interested in performing, then please pay attention to the following: -All guest performers will be required to submit an audition video of the act you propose to perform IN COSTUME AS IF YOU WERE PERFORMING AT THE CON. If your act/props/etc do not match the audition, your act will be cut. Don't blame BCBV, because it's not their fault. Blame me. I'm a bitch of a stage manager. Obviously I won't cut your act if you added a few crystals or found a better necklace. I AM reasonable, guys and gals. Crazy and strict, but reasonable. Mostly. -You can have a single person act or a group. Just as long as it's good. If you're in a group, make sure you're synchronized.I know, you're thinking that this is common sense, right? Yeah. I've seen group acts that were oh so not sychned and the act suffered greatly for it. -If there is something you discovered that will DRAMATICALLY improve your act after submitting your audition or after you have been accepted, then bring it up to me. Heck, I just might geek out about it as much as you! -This is a retro show; i.e. the time period that you are shooting for is primarily 1880-1955 (maaaybe something from the sixties if it looks *really* awesome and has a nifty idea behind it). This means a retro look: costume, hair, makeup, etc. Think Dita. -All naughty bits will be covered throughout the entirety of the performance. Sure, we can go down to thong and pasties...but those suckers had better stay on and not peek. -You still have to buy your own badges and supply room accommodations, food, transportation, costume storage, etc. -I'm looking for pretty high quality, well done acts. Not just someone who has not rehearsed and just throws on a few random things. Not someone who dances like he/she just picked out the music he day before the show and can't dance well to it (or simply has no dancing ability whatsoever). Don't laugh. I've seen it on stage before. Please guys, we want DragonCon to want to do this next year as well (and for years after that). -The only exception to the above statement: if the act is a more humorous one and being off kilter is part of the act. -I want diverse acts. If two acts are too similar, I will chose the best one. Even if you are my friend, I will cut your act if I don't feel like it's the best one for the show. If this happens, don't be offended, because it's not about you. I'm just trying to do the best job and put on the best show possible. -HELPERS. I'm still on the fence about this one, but I will say that admittance backstage will be STRICTLY LIMITED. We all know how much that makeup and those costumes cost. I just want to make sure that everyones' investment is as secure as possible. There will be security nearby. -Depending on how big a back-stage area we have, I might have to ask all the performers to at least have their makeup and hair done (or at least mostly done) prior to the show. Touchups will be possible, but we will likely not have a whole lot of light and room backstage and I want to break that possibility early. -I understand it takes time to put this stuff together, and I'm trying to be as fair as I can. In that thought, I am leaving the submission time open until 2 JULY 2008. That's 10 weeks from today. If I have not RECEIVED your audition by then, then start working on next year's show audition. You can send in your auditions by email, youtube, or cd. Once the guest performers have been chosen, then those who are chosen may be asked to supply a promotional picture so we can add you to the following promotional fliers and emails. -I ask that everyone help promote the show everywhere you can. A success this year means that we get to do this again, with maybe a bigger timeslot and more performers? Who knows! -Any other questions? Please feel free to comment here or email me at stormyknight42 AT gmail DOT com. </lj-cut> Current Mood: excited | 1:53 pm [tenshihitomi]
