This community is for any artists who enjoy working with dragons and have dragon or chimera-like characters of their own! Every month, members can choose to submit a character of their choice to be drawn in response to a "roll-call" post made by any of the maintainers ([info]turbulentfizz, [info]henchman409, [info]pocketbat_inc). The maintainers use a program to pair up names; someone is chosen to draw your dragon, and you are chosen to draw someone else's dragon! It's sort of like a secret santa every month.

Here's How It Works: The maintainers (staff) make a "roll call post", and it is then that you, the artist, posts not only your character decription but your website address so we can see your work. We will send you an e-mail accepting or declining your request to join. This is not based on style or whether we like you or not, it has to do with your artistic standard. And don't worry - most artists will most likely get in. We simply want to make sure you adhere to our professionalism rule below in your regular work so everyone gets an equal artistic quality for this exchange.

Rules and Guidelines

- The theme of the community is dragons. There is a lot of variation in just what a dragon is, depending on your source and what inspires you. We believe dragons can be anything from mammilian to reptilian, but generally has some extremely chimeric qualities. Dragons aren't just 'leopard/lions', they're leopard rabbit lion dogs with three heads and four wings, or something of the kind! We desire all the dragons here to be non-morphic, please.

- We have some professionalism standards for this xchange. We require all pieces to have a strong understanding of some artistic basics: light, form, linework, color. No MS paint pieces, no photoedits, no using other people's work. You must have quality and consistancy in your artwork, and work for a higher artistic standard. All pieces must be of a finished level...pencil work is allowed if it is finished and polished. Ink work the same. Colored pieces are encouraged but not required.
Edit: If you wish to find out if your art is up to par with our requirements before the next roll call, you can reach [info]turbulentfizz at pjane(dot)fischer(at)gmail.com or on her AIM as Noxima123. Please keep inquiries private and off-journal. Thanks!

- Each "session" is one month long. Participating members have until the end of the month to complete their work. If your work is not posted by the deadline (usually the last day of the month unless otherwise noted), you won't be able to participate in further sessions until your work is presented. If the offense is repeated and you fail to be on time for three consecutive sessions, you will not able to participate at all.

- Most members and maintainers live in North America, and go by local time. If there is any confusion about the deadline, assume that the round ends on the posted date (usually the last day of the month) at 11:59 PM Eastern Time, which is both [info]turbulentfizz and [info]henchman409's timezone.

- Post your work whenever you finish it, hyperlinked or behind an lj-cut. No R-rated work is to be posted, and therefore all will be worksafe but for those with slower browsers it's polite!

- This should go without saying, but when art of your character is posted, comment! Artists love comments and feedback and response. If critique is discouraged however, we appreciate you refraining from doing so. But telling an artist how much you really like their work (or just parts of it!) is always welcome and loved!

- Make sure that your e-mail address is valid and working! We need your e-mail to be able to send you your Chosen's information. A post will be made when e-mails are sent out; if you don't receive yours, it is VERY VERY IMPORTANT that you reply to that post and say so. If you can, offer a different e-mail address to send to.

- No nudity, naughtybits, or sexual situations. The highest rating for these images is pg-13. We don't need blood and sex to make an image interesting!

- Visual art of any kind is allowed; digital or traditional media, sculpture, any medium that allows the artist to depict their artwork, but all results MUST be on a professional and refined level. If sculpture, the pictures must be crisp and the sculpture well made.

- Think ahead. If you don't think you'll be able to have your work done in a timely fashion and won't have much time to spend on it, don't enter. There will always be other months in which you can join in. Having large amounts of people ducking out or not turning their artwork in is aggravating and problematic, both for the maintainers and for those who do turn their art in but get nothing in return.

- Please don't be a spoilsport. If you did get rejected it's not because we hate you or your art sucks, or anything like that. If you show us a pissy attitude it will obviously lessen your chances of us wanting to work with you in the future, even if your art improves. You can, however, ask for a straightforward critique and we will provide you with one. In this xchange we look for those with a solid grasp on artistic basics and professionalism. Clean work, understanding of color and anatomy, and a firm grip on the medium of your choice is what we're looking for. (This will probably become more clear after art is being submitted for the first round!)

- Comments and critique are permitted towards the artist or in agreement to statements made about the art itself. Unless the artist asks for specific assistance with a program or technique in the thread, we'd prefer the comments to remain focused on the artist or art itself. Conversations with other users on other topics or program techniques (unless requested by the artist) are best done over e-mail or on different journals. This does not mean artists (who are posting art) cannot ask for assistance from users. But keep in mind this is an art xchange and not a troubleshooting forum. Just because an artist says 'I had a lot of trouble with Opencanvas' doesn't mean you need to offer advice. If they specifically ask something like: 'Can anyone help me with Opencanvas, it messed up this part of my picture and I couldn't fix it' when they've posted their artwork, feel free. But also keep in mind that e-mail is still a better way to hold a conversation. This does not mean you can't ask an artist what program or technique they used in their thread, this is specifically artist-related and I'm sure the artist would be happy to tell you :)

All participants are expected to be familiar with and abide by the rules and guidelines in the userinfo of the community, and to check them periodically for any changes. Ignorance isn't an excuse. The first time is a warning, the second time you will be asked to leave the community. Please read the userinfo so that we can keep this community running smoothly.
