7:12 am - Introduction

samarial
Hi I'm new to this community,
but not to vampires.

I think what started my obsession with them, was when I saw the Bram Stoker's Dracula, ( the one with Gary Oldman) and being about 8 or so at the time, and knowing nothing about sexuality and erotica, that movie somehow gave me an understanding, a passion for it.

And ever since that movie I loved the sexuality and passion that only vampires can bring.

I'm also a big Anne Rice fan, with all her novels, not only the vampire and witches ones.  But the way she created vampires, to me, made me weep for them, they are alittle melancholy in a way, but still very passionate as well.

And thankfully, my husband likes vampires and werewolves and other things like that. And when I first met him, he had long brown hair and a beard and mustache thing going on like Gary Oldman in the movie, and I was attracted to that,....so lucky him lol.

I just love anything vampires...except for twilight. I'm sorry, go read some Anne Rice or something lol.

Well that's about me xD. Any more questions, ask.

11:05 am - a theory of mine

lupinskitten
I have developed a theory that I want to test out on this group. As a Dracula gathering, most of you are fans of the books and so I am guessing, of classic literature as well. I have always loved vampires but it did start with Bram Stoker's novel, and so everything else that followed is to me kind of "vampire-lite."

Then Twilight came out. My theory is this: if you were not a vampire fan before that book series, you love it. And if you were a vampire fan before the series, you hate it. I know almost no Twilight fans who also love classic vampires, and almost no Dracula fans who also love Twilight. So -- am I right or wrong?

I don't care.

For the record, I don't like Stephanie Meyers' book series, but that may be my annoyance at the sudden "popularity" of vampires because of it rather than a genuine hatred for the books.

Or not.

10:07 pm - Music Video: Dracula [ 1979 ]

lupinskitten
I have been learning Sony Vegas (which is not easy, I might add) and decided the best way to enjoy the learning process would be to vid to my favorite movie. I know the 90's version is more popular in this community, but there are a few Langella fans around who might appreciate it. =)

The song is from Dracula the musical, which is in pre-production and thus far only as a professional video on YouTube and musical download on Amazon.com. The entire album is stunning and if you haven't listened to it yet, you should! It's based off the book and is just magnificent. I had to shorten this song so I recommend hearing the original. =)

For the Hardcore Fans: your very own download.

12:27 am - Why the obsession....?

astarforbram
Someone sent this to me a day or so ago and I just thought I would post it here, although it's not about Dracula per se, but other more glittery, teen-friendly vampires....

For the link-phobic:
The text.... )

Thoughts? What are your reasons for liking (or loving) vampires, Dracula and others?

Fellow Dracula fans, would you help me out with something? I'm writing a play examining the adaptation of the Dracula story over the ages, and I'm looking for various perspectives on the directors of the major film versions. If you wouldn't mind, I would very much appreciate if you would fill out this poll with the one word or phrase that most encapsulates that director to you, either related to the style of his (unfortunately, they are all men) movies or his personality. Whatever comes to you first.

(For reference: Murnau is the director of Nosferatu and a variety of other, now classic silent films. Browning is the director of the 1931 Bela Lugosi Dracula, as well as a lot of things with Lon Chaney and the 1932 Freaks. Terence Fisher is the director of numerous Hammer films, including Horror of Dracula and a sequel or two. John Badham is the director of the 1979 Frank Langella Dracula, as well as a diverse assortment of other things, including Saturday Night Fever and Wargames. Francis Ford Coppola, of course, is the director of Bram Stoker's Dracula and such successes as the Godfather films.)

Poll #1383381

One word to describe F. W. Murnau would be...

One word to describe Tod Browning would be...

One word to describe Terence Fisher would be...

One word to describe John Badham would be...

One word to describe Francis Ford Coppola would be...

Thank you very much!

10:08 pm - Dracula 79 icons?

lucilla27
I hope it is okay to post this here.
I am looking for good icons from the 1979 version of Dracula.
Frank Langella was very sexy and I loved how erotic Kate Nelligan became after she was bitten.
I loved it when she tried to bite John Harker. Wicked cool.
I hope someone can help.
Thank you.

9:46 am - Jeanne Kaolgridis " Covenant with the Vampire"

britzombie
I just finished reading this book, and I was wondering if anyone else has read this, what they thought about it, etc. I'm quite picky about my vampire novels, but I thought this one did a good job of combining Vlad's evil and alluring sides. I haven't started the next two, but I will when I return home. I'd just like to get everyone's feedback :)

Also, if anyone has any other recommendations for vampire novels, I'm all ears. I've read "The Historian" which I adored beyond works and Anne Rice's amazing Vampire Chronicles (duh).

Has anyone read " I, Vampire: The confessions of a Vampire" by Mike Romkey? I'm not sure if it looks corny or good...

But newcomers are always welcome after that date! People who want to join afterwards and are afraid of being overwhelmed and not knowing what's going on - one, that's perfectly fine, since no one's expecting your character to, and two, the moderator will explain the plot up to that point for you if you ask! - don't worry!
