So, we do have power at my parents' now. We're spending one last night at my sister's then we're going to head over to my parents and clean out the fridge and freezer. I'm going to see about going back to the northshore this weekend, depending on if my roomies still have their relatives over - who don't have power in their houses.

As I was just trying to text at buffpixie I think my cell phone is dying. Like really dying. It keeps turning itself off... like mid text message, or while it's just sitting there not even looked at.
But anyway. ok, so hurricane details or the voyage of me? Hurricane details first.
As in my other post, usually the northeast side of the storm is the wettest side and the worst side. However, there was a dry wind shear that was hanging out in the middle of the gulf, and once the hurricane brushed by it, wrapped itself in it. So it didn't strengthen even when it was supposed to because it couldn't reorganize itself. The worst side of the storm was the south / south west side of the storm, this time. But the wind damage was terrible!
We left my parents on Sunday, went to northern LA, and we got there just fine. On monday night at 10p, the power came back on Tuesday at 8p. They were allowing people to come back into the area my parents live in at 6a on Wednesday, so we piled everything back into the cars on Wednesday and started home.
We drove through hours and hours of southern LA with most places not having power. Most of the area surrounding our state capital was without power yesterday. My parent's place is without power, so we're over at my sisters. My parents don't have any damage aside from one of the trees in the front splitting in half and blocking the drive way. My place on the northshore is ok - we only got a little water into my place, only enough to dampen the carpet. But it has power.
So now I'm biding my time before I go back to the Northshore. The stress is running high with my decidedly not getting along with my mother - again. But I think my cat picked up fleas from the hotel we were staying in.... And trying to get a full tank of gas would be nice. Oh, and a shower would be great to, because not all of the sewage pumps in the area are back online.
Everyone's fine. Just waiting.

Auuuuuugh epic all-nighter just now. I made a poster for the Kung Fu art opening this Friday.
I am going to hate myself all of tomorrow, but oh well.
The epic all-nighter was brought to you by the letter P, for parents, whose house I'm staying at, which is how I have internet. ...I love how not having internet at my apartment allows me to go to bed on time and get enough sleep. Every time I come here I stay up WAY late. XD Aaaand I have a really early optomo-whatever appointment tomorrow morning too...lames. Oh well...only one class, and then work, and then NOTHING. Well, homework. >.>
And Friday I get my AMAZING PAYCHECK OF DOOM. Srsly this will pay my bills, and my LATE parking ticket ($70, wtfwtfwtf), and possibly even leave me some money to buy some groceries so our fridge is not bare like Mt Everest. I feel kinda bad that Josh has been the only one getting groceries for the past month or so. >.> But, things will balance. I left him half the sandwich my sister bought me today. :P
Um...I should probably sleep so I get like...three hours. Cripes, someone shoot me. Augh, my eye is spontaneously leaking. Time for sleep. XD

And now that I have your attentions...any of you want to do me a favor? I got to English class late today, so I didn't get paired with a reader, so I ended up looking over my own paper. It's very small, just a short 1.5 page response to an essay.
The essay I'm responding to is the postscript to Viktor Frankl's Man's Search For Meaning. Basically, I need someone to read over my response and tell me what places you see that it sounds too much like a book report and not enough like a response. I sort of punched it on out so there's plenty of room for improvement. Any suggestions are welcome. Including general wording stuff, if you think a sentence sucks or something. It's only like ONE page! :D I have to turn in a revision by Friday. :D

Otherwise, I'm alive! Paycheck on Friday will save my LIFE. I'm wholly broke right now. My sister bought me lunch because she is amazing. Um...tonight will be lots of running around, but so far I've done all my homework and lots of other stuff besides! I'm both proud of myself and irritated that life is forcing me to be so responsible. XD
Doooooon I wanna call you but I shouldn't because it would mean I'm staying up far too late. XD Friday night or Saturday, though, expect to hear from me.
radicallindsay, I need to figure out when I can call you and not use up your minutes. Do you have Verizon? When do you get free minutes? I don't like to have text conversations cause I only have about 100 a month, but talking I can do. And since I'm never online anymore...@_@ Ditto to xenylamine.
Same goes for like...any of you guys that wanna talk to me!! If you want my phone number just let me know and I'll give it to you and you can call me after 8pm Eastern Standard US time. :D

...although Josh singing along with "Ground Control to Major Tom" as we sit in an internet cafe miiiiiight kill me.
....I kid.
partly
But no. I spent the better part of the past 24 hours with James and family. And mostly James. Josh and I went to his concert and then we went to the last half of the Mindless Self Indulgence concert, which was entertaining as usual. James and his band (all of whom I'm friends with in a casual way...I looooove them! <3333) were so great! I say this as a musician. :) Anyway, so James spent the night on our couch (and man, that boy can SLEEP what the heck...I don't think -I- can fall asleep on that couch and I've had it for like...15 years. Anyway, so I made him breakfast and felt delightfully useful and domestic. And we ended up going back to his house and watching Se7en and then Dexter for the rest of the afternoon. XD And then Josh came and we all had dinner together with their parents like old times and then Josh and I got dropped off back at the apartment. And now we're at an internet cafe.
And um. My neck hurts from headbanging at MSI. I've discovered, thought, that my hair is perfect for headbanging right now. Which. Is. Amazing. <3
Also, fucking hormones. What the hell. That's all I'm going to say. GAH.
Um. School has been going well. I don't think I mentioned it, but I dropped Zen Buddhism on my adviser's advice (by which I mean she would write a recommendation for me to receive financial aid only if I dropped down to 12-13 credits...*woe*). So my classes are now:
Taoism - 9:00-9:50am - MWF English 200 - 11:00-11:50am - MWF Italian 300 - 1:00-1:50pm - MWF Biology Lab - 8:00-9:50am - Tues Art of Japan - 10:00am-12:45pm - Thurs
Life is hugely full of stuff to do. I've trained myself well, too......I woke up before 8 today for no reason, and couldn't go back to sleep because I was filled with the desire to DO SOME WORK. So I washed dishes since they had gotten a bit behind. Now, of course, I don't want to do anything...I kinda want to go to sleep. I'll probably end up going back to the apartment before Josh, but you never know.
At some point I need to start seriously working on my music and lyrics again. What the heck, man. I've let this stuff slide so much. Same for practicing piano. Gah.
omg Don is online. I leave you now!

So, it's going West. It's good, and it's bad. I should've titled this Hurricane 101.
The east side of the storm brings in all the rain and the wind. All the wind is going to shove water into the lake.... But the majority of the hurricane is going to be hitting (so far) people in Lafayette - which really has a bad time with hurricanes too.
So, today, I'm moving my shit upstairs or into my car to go to my mom's today. I'll be out of my new place sometime this afternoon. I'll call her around noon to ask if we're going north.
That is all.

From my other post, I moved just last weekend. Well, this weekend, I'll be possibly evacuating from the hurricane brewing off the Gulf of Mexico. I have two reasons for this.
The new place I live in is right on the lake, practically. So there's no protection from storm surge. If it hits anywhere within 200ish miles, there's going to be water shoved into the lake and possibly into the house.
If the hurricane does come to the New Orleans area, we'll be evacuating to northern Louisiana. Rooms have been booked since Wednesday and it's the same place we went to for Katrina, so it's cool.
If I have to evacuate from my new place, and it's not coming close, I'll be at my parents where they have no internet. If we're GTFOing, then we'll be going to the hotel with internet.
I don't plan on going anywhere till late Saturday night / early Sunday morning. On Saturday, I'll be moving the majority of my stuff (still in boxes thanks to the move) to the second floor of the new place, and the important stuff to my car. The computer is going with me, wherever I go. I still have my cell phone with me, though I may not be getting phone calls in the area I'm at... since it's terribly old fashioned.... but they have wireless internet - I know, ironic. But I can still get text messages!
More details to come!

(as posted in a comment to xenylamine, but I had to stick it here too because omg hilarity.)
Okay so today my mom was saying something about taking medicine, and I was like, "At least it isn't for five years" (like her post-cancer medication) and she was like, "Yeah, that's true." And then she started singing "Arimadex, Arimadex" like "awimbowep awimbowep" and I started singing without missing a beat, "In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the cancer sleeps toniiiiight" and then for the next part, "ah-weeeeeee-eeee-eeee-eeee-and-it-won't-come-buhaaaaack."
And we sang it all the way through, like the real song. It was AWESOME. XDXDXD
( Nifty tarot quiz stolen from Veleda. )
Man, I always get the Sun for these things, regardless of what I think I might get. Even now that I consider myself a more reserved, even darker, person; I guess these things are all relative. XD Which is true. People tell me all the time that I'm still on the cheery optimistic side of things even at my darkest. We'll see. :P
Anyway, it tied with the Magician, so ( here's that: )
