Swingers' night??

I know most of you are quite capable of reading, but I've had an e-mail to this effect so I thought I should clarify.

Someone wrote asking if Down Boy! is a "thinly disguised swingers' night." This despite it being specifically promoted as a SINGLES night, with the tag line "No couples! No exceptions!" So, obviously the answer is NO. The reason for the "guy brings a girl" rule was (a) to ensure equal numbers and (b) that the people there are the kind of people you'd fix up with a friend of yours. Any swingers attending Down Boy! are going to be sorely disappointed (that is, if they are able to convince our door staff they're not a couple. Don't try this at home folks!) ;)

Anyway, THIS THURSDAY'S Down Boy! is our Anti-Valentine's Party, so we're suspending the "people must come in pairs" rule so that all single folk who hate Valentine's Day can attend. It's still #3 for 2 people but also #3 for one person, so if you can find a non-date please do! Event is Thursday 10 Feb from 8pm to 1am at the Down Bar, 2 Essex Road, Islington. #3 beers and #2 vodka shots. See you there!

Thursday 13 January at Down Boy!: Guest DJ suicideally (Stay Beautiful, Potty Mouth etc) joins Catasha (Black Mass) and Cat Paw (Club Slut) in playing Electro, Goth, Industrial and '80s retro for the alternative singles of London. Admission is just £3 for each non-couple boy/girl pair, and there are £3 pints and £2 vodka drinks all night. Down Bar, 2 Essex Road, Islington (Angel Tube), open 8:30pm to 1am.

Down Boy! singles night - Next dates

Greetings all!
Down Boy! is a monthly event for single goth/alternative types at the Down Bar in Islington, London. It runs from 8:30 to 1am or so, with four DJs playing goth, deathrock, 80s, industrial and electro... all sorts of music, and all sorts of people! Each single girl must bring a single guy and vice versa, and admission's only £3 for the both of you.

Next two events are Thursday 13 January, and Thursday 10 February which is our Anti-Valentine's Day party. There are £3 pints and £2 vodka drinks all night. Bring a (non) date and come have some fun!

DOWN BOY! POSTPONED

Bad news! (But good news in the end)

Due to the festive season being upon us, Down Bar found themselves triple booked for next Thursday. Alas we will have to postpone until after the new year

BUT

The good news is, we will be back with a vengeance -- AND cheap drinks!

Next two Down Boys! have been confirmed for Thursday 13 January and Thursday 10 February -- our Anti-Valentine's Day party. And because they do feel badly about bumping us, they're giving us £2 vodka drinks all night, in addition to the usual £3 pints and 2-ppl-for-£3. That's an admission price we can afford even in January. ;)

So next Thursday, go to the Ho-Ho-Horrendous Cinema night sponsored by chelseachainsaw at Ryan's Bar in Stokey, and we'll regroup next month same bat time same bat channel.

Oh also mark your calendars for Thursday 3 Feb, details tbc ... :)

First Down Boy! a success!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the first Down Boy! at the Down Bar (aka "The F*cking Tiki Bar") last night. We ALMOST had enough girls for everyone. (Ladies, take note -- there are men a-plenty in London! You'll have your choice at Down Boy!) The music was well received, Vic Voltaire in particular had the floor hopping. And everywhere I looked people were chatting and making new friends, and perhaps more...! Anyone have a success story they'd like to share? :)

The next Down Boy! will be at the Down Bar on Thursday 9th December. Mark your calendars, and start lining up your non-dates now!

So there's four DJs tonight, but beyond "what we usually play" we haven't set a particular music policy for tonight. I'm thinking it will be an opportunity for some more fun cheesy stuff than the typical goth night, since this is all about FUN right? :)

New Down Boy community

Hello all!
This is a community for attendees Down Boy! in London -- first date Thursday 4 November. As the flyer says, you have to be single, and you have to bring a single friend of the opposite sex to mix and (hopefully) match! Like odd socks... only with less laundry involved. Or something.

Anyhow, if you've got an odd number of friends, or all your friends are happily partnered smug bastards, and you need a "date" for the event, please post here. It's only £3 entry for every two people, but there have to be two! Also if you have any ideas for the event, musical requests etc., you can post them here as well.
