Exciting news for anyone who missed it... Joel posted this on the official site on Christmas Day! Happy holidays to us! :)

Merry Christmas
Posted on December 25th, 2008

That’s right! Merry Christmas, everybody. What are you doing on the computer? What am I’m doing on the computer? X-mas Eve and Willie Nelson’s Stardust works its late night magic. Blue Skies smiling at me as it drizzles rain outside.

A new record for a new year. Well, three new records for one year to be exact. March, I’ve been told, so now I’ll tell you, “March, my new triple record called Three”. See you in the spring. Until then: shoveling, shoveling, shoveling.

Happy holidazing…

Joel

Joel Plaskett Emergency is playing a secret show tomorrow. It's apparently not so secret, though, if Chart is reporting...

Not *incredibly* enthralling, but JPE played at the Algoma Fall Festival in Sault Ste. Marie, and there are pictures!

Review.

This is barely Plaskett-related, but the headline just kills me, for some reason.

Additionally, Joel's going to be on the Berkeley Sessions on Bravo September 10th. I shall see about commandeering a rip for the internationals.

Anyone who doesn't subscribe to the CBC Radio 3 podcast (which I'm assuming many of you don't, ya know...) should know that #160 is called "School of Rock: Joel Plaskett, Corb Lund, Gonzales." It's classic CBC with the stupidly long vowels on every third word (what, did you think we needed to catch up?) but it's usually a lot of good/interesting Canadian indie and some weird theme, and it could always be worse...it could've been Q...

(disclaimer: I love the CBC)

Considering his name comes first, surprisingly little about Joel Plaskett -- but "Come On, Teacher" is the first track. And! AND! AND! The last song (around the hour mark) is the Musquodobit Indie Children's Choir doing a cover of "Nowhere With You." Yeah, I dunno. But it's fun. I may rip it when I'm less tired.

From the Coast:

Joel Plaskett launches independent label New Scotland Records, the first release kicking off the roster is Emergency drummer Dave Marsh's The True Love Rules (to be released July 29). Says Plaskett "I enjoy producing and want to build on the experience I've gained making my own records by working with people whose music I admire." Get those one sheets printed off and fill those bubble envelopes with glitter, people.

And there's a slightly more in depth article from Chart. Even though we all know how I feel about chart...

So, exclaim! tells me there's going to be a Thrush Hermit Tribute album. Bizarre, much?

Right, there ARE some useful aspects to having a Joel Plaskett Google Alert --

1. I did know this happened, and I've just been way too lazy busy to put it up.. CBC podcast the Juno Songwriters' Circle (which Joel hosted). I know there's non-Canadians about, so if there's access problems, let me know -- I can upload them for you. The second part's on the main page, but you can find the first if you go into "past podcasts" by the FAQ.

2. This one was new to me. East Coast sessions -- Joel Plaskett doesn't come up on the main page, but if you hover your mouse over "other artists" he's somewhere in the middle. And there's some cool stuff on there, including a song that to the best of my knowledge isn't officially recorded anywhere (Wishful Thinking).

Not that OVERLY many people are following this, but is anyone else getting annoyed at how few people predict Joel Plaskett's going to win at the Junos?

Hi! I'm Allie, I was sent this way by [info]coneycat who encouraged me to come and share my bearded Joel pics. Yes, that's right, Joel sported a beard for the first set of his concert this past weekend in Halifax. Definitely a different look but adorable nonetheless. Anyways. Because I am essentially really, really lazy, I thought it would just be way easier on my life to make my concert post public and link you guys to it if you want to check out some pics haha. So, if you are interested, click here to go to my journal entry. Enjoy!

Joel Plaskett Emergency is playing SXSW. Probably none of us are going, but we MAY know people who are. And they need to be coerced into going. *nods*

1. Joel Plaskett is going to be hosting the Songwriters' Circle at the Junos this year -- which, for all you non-Canadians, is a pretty big deal. There's a bit more info at the songwriters' circle website. It's apparently going to be live broadcast, but as with CBC3, I'm not sure if people outside Canada will be able to listen in. (someone. Teach me how to rip streaming radio. It'll be good for you in the end.)

2. This will not be a regular occurrence, because I think if we put up all the youtube clips of Joel Plaskett playing live this comm would get a bit overrun, BUT, this one's almost brand new and I know how much affection certain members of this comm have for this song:

I feel foolish )

And, just because I can:

I want to drink too much )

So, I was doing my best to er...find another way of bringing you these...*cough* but I couldn't, so here is a URL instead (streaming songs -- Joel at the Horseshoe Tavern in December). If non-Canadians can't hear it (as sometimes happens with these things),let me know.

Not that the fact that Joel recorded La De Da in Memphis the Southern United States (LEAVE ME ALONE IT'S EARLY!) should be a revelation, but this short article DOES yield a pic of Joel I'd not seen before. And that's a relatively rare occurrence.

ETA: And there's MORE!

Well, maybe a little bit...anyhow, today google alert threw up this blog post, which informs us that Joel Plaskett was once an archivist for the CBC.

I doubt this is exciting if you're not a huge dork from Canada. But still.

Yeah, so none of us LIVE in Ontario, I'm aware (I'm hoping we'll get more than 5 members at some point, yes? How do you make that happen? Anyone?), but I thought I should mention that Joel is rumoured to be playing at the Mariposa Folk Festival in July, so if anyone happens to be in Orillia July 4-6...

ETA: We have SIX members. Hi Billy! *waves frantically*
