I got word that there was a Doukutsu Monogatari 'remix project' recently completed, so I went right away to have a listen. It was fantastic.

My job's getting busier, but I'm feeling good. Working on Pxtone Collage. It looks like June may pass without any progress on the shooting game."

Incidentally, Pixel also mentioned the remix project in an email exchange to me: "Each track thrilled me and made me smile, and every one of them impressed me. Are these professionals? I'm so glad now that I made that game. ... I feel very fortunate." Good show.

No professionals, just the usual video game remixing crew, centered around ocremix.org and other sites.

I'm sure it won't be the end of Cave Story remixing... there are a lot of great tracks open to a wide variety of interpretations. I'm sure the creators would be happy to hear they pleased Pixel, though.

I guess I'd be old-fashionned if I said I like the original tracks more :P

Aw, very nice.

Is it too late to add a remix to that project, I wonder?

Probably; however, many fans would love to see more quality Cave Story remixes on OCR and whatnot. :D

Wow, I'm really glad Pixel liked it. Well, he probably had to, considering it was his music. I was kind of scared that if he heard it, he would go like "this stuff is crap! I'm sad I made this game! I'm going to eat uncooked chilidogs and explode my stomach to death!"

Speaking of the project, I really didn't like it that much... some of the songs were good, but a lot of them didn't really surpass the originals. I thin k the problem with some of them is that they were too drawn out without amazing blow-your-face-off stuff everywhere. I'm looking at you, Last Battle! I guess the applause hyped me up too much.

There's got to be some sort of translation thing on the web somewhere so Pixel can read this community... *shrugs*

actually, i'd say most of us were from vgmix more than ocremix.

i kinda agree with fwugradiation though, a lot of the songs are worse than i had hoped (including mine, i ran out of time actually). a few of us remixers ran out of time! procrastinators.

Hmm... I liked yours the best actually, it'd be nice to hear how it would have turned out if you'd kept working on it.

It was one of the few that seemed more like a composition than a bunch of poorly-linked and under-developed remixes. Or maybe I just like chiptunes. [>^-^]>

I liked parts of the remix project more than the whole. I would've LOVED to be a part of it though... I've been having cave story music on my mind forever

Yeah it's unfortunate. Apparently there were THREE people lined up for the Jenka tracks, and they all bailed out.

Hi guys, my name is Dustin Kulwicki - and im the guy behind the Cave Story Remix project - I'm really glad those that liked it did - and i knew our songs would be very hit-or-miss, we have so many unique artists and so much diversity in the soundtrack I was really expecting mixed experiences. You really can't please everyone. We are from OCremix and Vgmix.com, and we are currently considering doing a 3rd disc - its kinda 'break time' right now.. so no ones actively working on it, but we are getting mixers ready and setting things up.

I wanted Jenka 1 & 2 covered badly :( so hopefully we can next swing.

if I have the capacity to do something I'd love to contribute. I'm a percussionist, so maybe I can do something live?

I am incredibly down for remixing a track.

I didn't even know about the original project 'til after it launched. :(

It's so great to hear that Pixel adored the remixes. It's really something when an author appreciates remixes of their own work.

I am on the fence with this soundtrack. Some tracks are absolutely fantastic (16 - Almost There and 17 - Cave Story for example), and truly have the soul of the original tunes in them, which is so very important. Some of the more popular tracks didn't turn out as well, however, like 06 - Mimiga Vibe (Moonsong). It's the same philosphy I apply to OC remixes - if a song doesn't "feel" like the original, it really isn't any good. It's very difficult to please everyone, because each person draws different pleasures from each song, though...

And with that said, every song was outstanding in its own right.

And on the other end of the spectrum, I'm from the camp that believes "if the song feels like the original, it's not a good remix." ;) I mean, might as well just play the game again, right?

I thought about that, but if the song doesn't feel like the original, it's not a remix - it's a new song. The terms "inspired" and "influenced" are applicable here, but I'm aware every person feels differently about what a remix really is. On another note, if a song were to make you feel like you were playing the original game, I don't think any higher praise could be attributed to a remix.

Ah, now you're getting it! To use the same notes, but at the same time be able to reinterpret them to mean something new and different...that is the thrill of being a remixer. :)
