It could loosely be described as irritable or "snidely derisive;" hence, 'snarkish', 'snarky', 'to snark at somebody.' (The Urban Dictionary refers to it as a contraction of "snide remark".) In short, acceptable synonyms would be sarcastic, cynical, and sardonic. ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) dot_pet_snark is a community that was originally founded as a way for members to vent their pet-related frustrations, and strives to remain as such today. We pride ourselves in taking the sarcastic route and finding a way to laugh rather than to yell, a way to make fun of something that would otherwise likely bring us to graphic violence - no matter who else it pisses off. This is a place to relieve stress, to unwind and be ridiculous if you like, and hopefully be more capable of carrying on the rest of your life with a bit more ease because of it. It's a place where we don't have to be fair about what frustrates us, and be damned if those we are snarking don't like it. If you would like to become a member of this community, read the rules below. Your maintainers and moderators will do their best to remain fair in all matters, and the basics of our guidelines have been included to make the understanding of what we are about more clear. # This is not the place for your personal vendettas. Snark should be based upon pet related issues only.
# Under no circumstances will discrimination be allowed in this community. Understand that a person's gender, religion, race, sexual preference, choice of TV show, or musical interest has no bearing on their ability to relate to pets. Ergo, prejudice has no place here and will not be met kindly in the least.
# Similarly, personal attacks are frowned upon. Criticize a person's pet care. Do not criticize their weight, height, social class or appearance. It's uncivil.
# Deleting posts for the sake of dramatics is not allowed. This will earn you a warning and repeat offenders a banning. If you don't have the guts to leave something up indefinitely, don't post it.
# Do not post direct links to personal journals or include direct quotes in your entries without permission. You may link to community entries or non-livejournal websites. You may paraphrase that which you wish to snark. No exceptions.
# dot_pet_snark is not stupidpetowners. Thus, a snark does not necessarily have to involve or center on anything that could be labeled stupid in order to be snarked. We're here to have fun. Not everyone has to agree on everything in order to do that.
# What happens in dot_pet_snark, stays in dot_pet_snark. Do not stalk or harass those who have been snarked outside the community. Do not post seeking to gather support for a flamewar. If we find you have taken it too far, we will not hesitate to eject you from the community.
# This community is going to piss people off. Believe it or not, that's how life works. Try to remember it's only an online community: don't take it seriously. We don't.
# If you have been snarked, deal with it. It's nothing personal. Really. You just happen to have frustrated the hell out of someone with your idiocy, be it momentary or permanent. Suck it up and move on, or it's likely you'll end up making it worse.
