Now I get it.
Oh.

It's the old, "Well, I'm going to keep changing the definition of what I'm talking about until you can no longer disagree with me, because that way, I'll be RIGHT, no matter how stupid, insipid, illogical, and demonstrably wrong my original contention was" trick.

I love that one!

Carry on.

Of COURSE Shakespeare counts as fan fiction.

And, of course, The Seven Percent Solution doesn't.

At least you didn't mention Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern are Still Fucking Dead, Honest To Fucking God.

Truthfully, though, the word I was thinking of was, "one who, or that which, writes".

Get over it, Xiphias. It's the respondents to the thread who keep saying "Is THIS just fanfic? Is THIS? Well THIS is definitely fanfic!!!!" It is to vomit!

I quote from the userinfo for this community:

Notice something? People post bitchy --perhaps one might even say "catty"-- rants (hopefully, amusingly rants, but amusing is in the eye of the beholder) about whatever they want.

Notice that: Whatever. They. Want.

Their parents. Their job. Their lover. Their ex-lovers. The previous post. The previous poster.

Whatever. They. Want.

So. If you think that you can't deal wth that sort of community, keep on moving.

Why, fancy that. Here's [info]xiphias, posting about Whatever. He. Wants.
Honey, if you're going to quote the community info at someone, maybe you should make sure you've got a leg before you try to stand up, hmm?

I quote from the userinfo after what you just posted:
The only rule is "If you are going to dish it, be prepared to take it in return."

One final note, a quote from one of the greatest curmudgeons of all time, H. L. Mencken: "Moral certainty is always a sign of cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and what is wrong. All human progress, even in morals, has been the work of men who have doubted the current moral values, not of men who have whooped them up and tried to enforce them. The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant, in this field as in all others. His culture is based on 'I am not too sure.' "

Have a nice day.

Amusingly enough, I have used, not that quote, but a paraphrase of it, over and over; it's part of my personal belief system.

It also doesn't conflict with anything I've said. I have my opinions, and nobody's said anything that really shakes them. I addressed my original remark, as is generally the case here, to one (non-reading) person who really deserved it. If other people took it personally, eh, not my problem.

I don't have problems with all the comments. I just thought it was funny that he needed to get THAT upset about it...but whatever, so I dished back to HIM again. It's all good clean 1's and 0's.

Ah, well, me either, so it's all in good fun, I guess.

Frankly, I feel bad if anybody IS upset. Perhaps my cattiness was not, in fact, meow enough, directed though it was (as is usually the case here) at someone who shall remain nameless who really did deserve it, and yet not so well thought out as to avoid spilling over onto others. Alas.
