Hello and welcome to dorama chat, a community to exclusively talk about Asian dramas from Korea, Japan and Taiwan. This community is in English and does not take download requests. Pictures are welcome but please do not hotlink from any sites not your own.

What is a dorama?
Dorama is the Japanese word for drama. It is used to specify TV series from Asia, esp. Taiwan, Korea and Japan. The length of doramas depend on the country they are from. Japanese doramas tend to be 10 to 11 episodes long, one episode consisting between 45 minutes and 1 hour. Korean doramas tend to be about 16 episodes long, but depending on the genre (Historicals can be up to 70 episodes long!) it may vary and in romantic series they consist of up to 26 episodes. Taiwanese doramas start at 16 and can run up to 30 episodes per dorama.
Most dorama but not necessarily all are based on mangas, the comic style books deriving from Japan but very popular in the whole of Asia. These live action doramas are very popular and mostly consist of boyband members who play the leads in these series.
If you now think that these doramas are not of very high quality, then you are mistaken. Especially in Japan and Korea actors/singers, the so-called tarento (talents) or idoru (idols), have to be multi-skilled and some of the most famous singers turned actors come from former boybands or are still taking part in them. Especially in Japan there is a tradition of grooming where young boys are prepared from a very early age to hone their skills in dancing, singing and acting. Some of those boys are now the most popular actors (and singers) in Japan and the whole of Asia.
