Padawan Jinn sensed there was more amiss with his Master than the effects of another backbreaking day of planting trees, when that night his Master had insisted they retire to their flyer to sleep in their -- unhappily -- separate bunks. Oh, nobody else would have known there was something wrong, but Qui-Gon knew Master Dooku. After the victory of a stolen cuddle on the insulation mat last night, this was the equivalent of being relegated to solitary meditation in his room back on Coruscant. His Master had been evasive all day. His hopes of talking more had been dashed when Master Dooku had turned in with a curt goodnight, only confirming his suspicion that he was being punished.

This was the part of his duties that Padawan Jinn hated the most. Not the mind-numbing boredom of the state reception, nor the long-winded speeches of the following morning, prior to ground-breaking at the new construction site of the Illeanic Parliament.

No, what he hated was the gaping wound in the Living Force surrounding him: attributable to the scores of giant Jenolan trees that were now decimated, and lying on the ground next to the grappling cranes that waited to pull them away, so that levelling of the huge site could begin in earnest.

Perhaps what he hated even more was that he seemed to be the only being of the hundreds gathered there who sensed it.
