bike ride
dist: 26.83 avg: 14.9 max: 23.7 time: 1:47:33 Went out Lake, a route I did before on the hybrid. It felt like I had a headwind on the way out and this was somewhat proven by the fact that it took me ~15 minutes less to get back then it did to go out. Probably could have upped the average a little if I'd spent more time in the drops, but my shoulders and neck are still adjusting to the lower position and I don't want to keep myself from riding on Monday 'cause I ache. |

On asteroids and Cleopatra
Yet another awesome science-y website (the likes of which are the webpage/magazine equivalent to Discovery Channel Documentaries) called ' How Stuff Works'. Reminds me of the old 'The Way Things Work' series that had that mammoth mascott. Anyone? No? Well, I wanted one as a pet until someone crushed my dreams and told me they were an extinct species. Found this very useful page with some background info for a new short story I'm scribbling away. This one will at least make sure I get the basics right, too. ( Speaking of documentary channels... )Have started re reading Pharyngula's blog and am mostly enjoying it. It's funny how one's tastes change, though. I loved it when I was younger, but it seems I've become a lot more mainstream since then. Or maybe just more discerning. It's hard to tell sometimes. |

We are about a month out from the MS150: Pedal to the Point. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference in the lives of those living with this disease. I have a wish...
...for my birthday. It's the same for 10 years (maybe more) and maybe this year will come true. Why am I speaking about it? Yesterday was the birthday of my dear friend, Sa-chan. We have a very very little party with few person (5 XD). Today's my brother's birthday and after long time we will spend this day togheter. Dad is super-excited and has planned a huge bbq XDD Mine is next month... I'd like... I'd like... if things will be as they are now I'll be able to do what I'd like the most. Well, the best thing would be leave the day before, turn off my cellphone, no pasokon... It would be great. So dangerous to be at home. The lure of pisang gorengs, the smell of otah2, the wolf whistles of takoyaki, the call of Ramly burgers (doesn't help that the stall is right smack near the traffic light), the urge to buy all those knick-knacks/snacks (yes i knw they are 2 different things). Maklomlah, there's a pasar malam right opposite my block :/ I'm struggling with Murakami, in a good way. I like his style of writing; no overly flamboyant nakkenasepak descriptions or va-va voom kepalahotakmu vocabulary that threaten annihilation of brain cells. His writing, so far, is intense. Can absorb, can understand, but it's an intense whirlpool of emotions. And I'm really trying to limit the use of Saiful (have changed his name) to only email-ing for the next two days. Been too hooked watching movies, serials, youtube videos and playing games like FeedingFrenzy. The game is seriously addictive. |

This is serious OMG shit. The boy oops i mean young man who insulted my hair (read: BERSERABOT) and in the process, ME, during FOC, is none other than my mum's friend's son. Okay I'm over the after-effect of the insult because it is true afterall. Even FBIL said that about me before but i don't mind because I've known him for a loooong time. BUT to have an Unidentified Object throw that at me is rather a personal attack. Shall not mention his name here. The whole camp may know him and even like him, but just because I was involved in the camp doesn't mean that I have to know him and like him, Too. Ok this is bitchy and I have to admit that FOC is so, last month. I've forgotten abt the incident and have forgiven this Unidentified Object. But this nugget of info today just triggered my memory. I have the morning off work - I go work at the chocolate shop at 2. So I'm going to Sears to get a replacement part for our lawnmower and to Target to get deodorant. Maybe I'll pick up lunch at the mall food court. Later tonight I'm going to a Tupperware party at a friend's house. My weekend turned out to be a lot of me sitting and watching TV and coughing. I hope this week is cough less, clean more, crab less, fun more. |

TADAIMA!!!
I know you weren't worry, but yeah I'm still alive! I've been quite busy these days. My brother is back to this house (not my home, but his one next door) and I spend all the time with him and our parents. On weekends there is my nephew too, who is very active (and my body feels the age, so I get tired easily XD) And when I'm free with them there is Sa-chan. Well, she come everyday to my house XDD So I don't use the PC so much... just to check my Ameblog (I became an Ameba-addicted! >_<) I've also lost my dear Sony Ericsson T_T I mean, it doesn't work. Or... it works, but only when it want to XDD I don't use cellphone so much, I use it as clock... but now when I open it I can't see anything, so I decided to buy a new one. There was a nice purple Sony but after looooon time (people in the shop were looking at me waiting for my decision XD) I chose a Samsung touch screen. Yesss, I've choose a Korean instead of a Japanese. FORGIVE ME!!! Btw the man who sold me it, said that it was UMTS (or G3 if you prefer) but HE WAS WRONG! He tricked me ç__ç But I have no time nor willing to give it back -_-; Bye |

Pop goes the uterus
I got the news earlier today that my sister finally squirted out another kid last night. My mom tried to call me but I was busy sleeping the sleep of the dead. Out of the last 29 hours, I've spent at least 20 of them unconscious, recovering from the lack of sleep during Dexcon. The last I heard, Connie and Jeff had been debating between calling the kid (It's a boy BTW) Taylor or Tyler or something else along those lines. There were a couple of other possibilities being debated but it looks like a real dark horse candidate won. They decided to name him William in the end and call him Will. Frankly, I think that's a pretty poor idea overall. While I have no problem with William as a name, if you call him Will it's inevitable that he's going to be become a Willie. This is especially true considering my mom, grandmother, dad, and uncle in the mix. They'll find it easier to attach the 'ie' to the name, just from a phonetics point of view. So unless something drastically changes, we'll have a little Willie running around for years to come until he's old enough to force people to stop calling him that. While I am sort of happy that they eventually went with a nice traditional name instead of something scrounged off of 90210, they managed to nail him with his middle name, Hunter. WTF? I've never gotten 'Hunter' as a name, unless you're planning to take your kid out into the woods and have him shoot wildlife in the face. The fact that it's a favorite of urban/suburbanites, just makes the name even more ironic. William Hunter (Zhe?) Kulikowski. I guess it could have been worse overall. If you're wondering about the 'Zhe', that's a holdover from our side of the family. My sisters and I all were given Chinese names when we were born. My parents weren't daft enough to actually give us Chinese names, but they did want to have them as middle names. In the end, I was the only one who was left out since my mom forgot to fill it in on the form and I ended up without one. My sisters both have middle names that are supposed to sound like their Chinese name. When Maddie was born, my mom and other relatives were given the task of picking out a Chinese name for her. My sisters and I can speak conversational Chinese, but we're no way near the level of proficiency that would allow us to pick names for a kid. Unlike in English, there aren't words that are just set aside as proper names. While 'Edward' might have had a real meaning in old English if you trace it back far enough, nowadays its only meaning as as a first name. Chinese, like a lot of the asian languages, are different. Any word can be chosen as a name so theoretically your kid's first name could be Chair, or Toilet, or Superfluous. Because similar sounds often have very different meanings (Homonyms galore), there's a certain poetry to picking a child's name. The two word phrase (Last + First) can convey a lot of information and range from being very prosaic to incredibly obscure. After pow-wowing it out, it seems that my mom has decided to go with a word that sounds like Zhe or maybe Tzuh would be a closer match. I don't recall what it means off the top of my head but I'm sure it has some sort of nice symmetry in Chinese. About all I can recall at this point is that the name their picked for Maddie meant Clean. I figure that it'll be at least a day or two before the new addition gets brought home and for the time being my mom and grandmother are taking care of Maddie. I'm already envisioning a lot of screaming and unhappiness in the next few months to come. Maddie's a bit spoiled and me-centric. I'm pretty sure she is not going to take kindly to someone else usurping the attention from her. We'll see though. Current Mood:  blah |
