What do you mean, READ the post?  I'm certainly not going to let not READING the post keep me from making a suggestion!

And when I'm corrected, I'm going to make the most obvious assessment in the world, free of any pesky ideas, because having nothing to offer has never stopped me from commenting before!

In case it's not obvious, I'm snarking the comments, not the post.

True, and funny. Though she could have been more polite because he was trying even if he can't manage to read. I thought her responses got a bit out of line.

I'd be rude too.

*shrug* Different strokes and all that. I don't really think there's ever much of an excuse for rudeness especially when someone was trying to help and made a mistake.

Not only do they make it obvious the -first- time, that they haven't read the post... later on, it becomes obvious that they didn't go back to read it either!

Seriously, if I were stressed, I'd probably reply like the OP did. Especially on the second mistake -- where they basically 'suggested' yet another thing, almost word-for-word, that the OP had in their post. It'd annoy me greatly -- I mean, the first one could be understandable... but after that?

I snarked on him for that as well. Not only did he suggest modestneeds, even though she mentioned it several times, he then suggested that the reason they might be wary of helping is that it wouldn't cover all her needs.

I felt like saying no shit Sherlock, are you dumb enough that you didn't go back and read the entire post after you admitted you didn't the first time around.

And yeah, maybe the OP was a bit rude in the first comment, but after that, I think she was remarkably restrained, considering the stress she is under.

I also freely admit to being rather snarky, and sometimes rude, to people... but generally when they're making an obvious show of stupidity. Willful stupidity. The snarked comments are a perfect example.

Yeah, I'm with you. I was reading that and thinking, why does the OP keep telling him to let it go, when she just keeps on responding? Seems to be "battle of the last word" between them. He did apologise for skimming the post (and come on, we all do that sometimes) and she was just being a bitch for no good reason after that.

This kind of thing annoys me to no end. In my latest post to a knitting community I asked for patterns for skirts with what I know is cheap-ass yarn, clearly stating that I don't want blanket patterns.

I have an inbox full of blanket patterns, though!

People attacking the poor woman who asked for help left a bad taste really, that whole conservative "I'm not paying taxes to help 'feckless' people like you, you should just work 60 hours a week and like it" attitude. I thought the idea of the "deserving poor" being the only people worth helping, and everyone else can go hang as its obviously their own fault went out in Victorian times. The welfare system in the US seems particularly designed to humiliate people -I mean, food vouchers that you can only spend on certain pre-decided items? Do they not trust you to choose and buy your own food? And a lot of people's attitudes on this thread seem to tie into the same line of thought. I thought the whole idea of modern welfare states was to provide a safety net that everyone was entitled to draw on when they needed it, shame-free rather than basically the modern equivalent of the workhouse, rubbing people's bad situation in their face.

I also didn't like the people saying that they spend more on their vets fees than they assume that the original woman would spend on her child's health care, and that they didn't want THEIR tax money going on her child's health care. Which is a particularly mean spirited attitude, taxes are paid so that governments can provide essential services for EVERYBODY equally. Perhaps if the US had a proper universally available health care system (you know, like erm every other first world country, and quite a few third world ones), which didn't involve either lining an insurance companies pockets, going bankrupt, or jumping through hoops of red tape just to prove you are dirt poor enough for your toddler to have some free doctors appointments, which will be taken away as soon as you earn just a little more money, perhaps you wouldn't take that nasty smug attitude of "I'm okay, so who cares about you, I certainly don't want to pay to help you out in any way.". I'm going to stop ranting now.
