Gallifreyian Wedding vows.
For a fanfic I'm writing. I have to do a wedding scene so I wrote Gallifreyan wedding vows. Here they are:

Question regarding the Last Great Time War.

I'm sure this has been discussed a long time ago, so with series four drawing to a close, I thought I'd bring the topic up again.

I only started watching during the first new!Who series, so I don't know much about old!Who, but I do know that the Last Great Time War occurred between the old series and the new series. At first I thought it was just something that everybody already knew about perhaps by audio stories or books, that all of the facts and the circumstances were common knowledge. While we do know a lot, we don't know the entire story behind it.

I think it would be something interesting to see, but at the same time I think the mystique behind it is better than actually knowing the terms and conditions of it. It's better, probably, to not know.(I was actually having a conversation about it with a friend of mine who favors Sylvester McCoy's Doctor.) We know who it involved, what happened, etc. I'm just curious as to how other fans feel about the lack of total explanation provided. And, on that note, if there's a detailed depiction of it, does someone know where I could find one? I've already looked at the Who!Wiki and it's interesting, but inconclusive, which I think I've already said about five times in this post. Sorry about that.

And if this makes absolutely no sense at all, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Gallifrey = Alaska?
I went camping this weekend, and the landscape sort of reminded me of what we saw of Gallifrey in The Sound of Drums. So, I took a few pictures, then did some artful photoshopping once I got back home... ;)

Maybe I only saw the similarity because I'd been driving for nearly five hours and was daydreaming about Doctor Who, but I thought I'd share the silliness anyway!

Gallifrey / Time Crash question.
In "Time Crash" 5 meets the 10. What if 5 had asked 10 about Gallifrey. Or, better still, what if 5 asked 10 to take him to Gallifrey (for whatever reason).

According to what we know, it's impossible for 10 to go to Gallifrey because it's destroyed. Also, he says he can't go back to before the time war.

However, the whole way through 5's timeline as the Doctor, Gallifrey is present and exists. So could 5 have taken 10 to 5's "present Gallifrey" or not?

Gallifrey probably has a straight timeline so at the point of 5 meeting 10, Gallifrey probably wouldn't have been there. However, as I said earlier, we know (from watching the classic series), that 5 could go to Gallifrey anytime because it was always there for him. And, as "Time Crash" is canon, how does that fit in?

Obviously they avoided this question in the episode, but it's quite complicated... any thoughts?

Kasterborous?
Hi friends.  (I'm new.  Ish.)

I was wondering if there's anything canon (or any speculation) about what the constellation Kasterborous is supposed to be, or if there's a story behind it.  I've only seen new Who, and Wikipedia isn't yielding much knowledge.  I thought I'd see if the hivemind here knew anything.

This is for a fic, so I'm perfectly happy making things up; just interested in any sort of jumping off point.  Thanks!

The Doctor AKA Theta Sigma
Okay, I haz a couple more questions.  Or, well, more like one question really.

So back in the Academy days, do we know anything about what the Doctor was like as a student?  I've read many a fic where he was the trouble maker and the rebel, an outcast, ect.  Is that canon or fanon?  And any other information that is known about his personality back then would be a great help.

Thanks so much in advance to any who answer!

The Future of Gallifrey...
Okay, so the Time War ended and Gallifrey was destroyed.

The Doctor could simply go back and prevent it from happening? According to the fans, no he can't. It would create mass confusion and continuity fuck ups. However, there's nothing to say Gallifrey simply hasn't moved to another area in Space and cut off the Doctor? They never got on well, so it'd make sense. The Time Lords' revenge on the Doctor?

Anyway, this isn't about that. This is a poll... fill it out...

The Prydonian Academy is now open for business!
Thanks to the help and good advice from [info]lied_ohne_worte, and the goodwill of TPTB, the Prydonian Academy is now listed in the LiveJournal Schools directory, and can be added to your schools by clicking the link, or by going to the Schools directory and navigating to Ireland -> County Dublin -> Gallifrey -> Prydonian Academy.

Everybody sing along:

"Rassilon and Morbius, the Vardon-Kosnax war,
X-squared, y-squared, H2SO4!
Time warps, black holes, ancient history,
Prydonia, Prydonia, chapter varsity!
Go reds!"

P.S. I'd like to add that there is also the Coal Hill School, which is where Susan went and Ian and Barbara worked as teachers before they got too curious and were kidnapped by a surly old alien. Thanks to [info]klystronic for pointing that one out.

And kudos also to [info]kassie_opia, who came up with the idea in the first place!

I have a few Gallifrey related questions.
It's for an idea I'm toying with. I have no idea, at this point, if anything will come of it but I'm still interested in any facts you might be able to give someone who didn't grow up with Old School Who.

Prydonian Academy in the LJ Schools Directory - Help!
[info]kassie_opia  made a post a while back about adding the Prydonian Academy to the LJ schools directory, seeing as there are already schools like Hogwarts and Unseen University in there. In the ensuing discussion, we settled on locating it in County Dublin, Ireland, since that seems to have been a running joke in both the series and the tie-in media. (See the post for the discussion.)

The problem is that LiveJournal has to approve of schools submitted to the directory, and since it has been some time now, and the Prydonian Academy hasn't turned up yet, they may have thought it just a silly prank. (Really. Would we ever?)

So, to ensure that we get to list the Prydonian Academy among our schools, please go to the County Dublin schools page, click "Add a School" at the bottom of the page, and write "Gallifrey" in the City box and "Prydonian Academy" in the Name of School box, and then click "Add School"!

If we can persuade LJ that there are a lot of people who have attended this school *cough*, it will appear in the directory as

Ireland --> County Dublin -- > Gallifrey --> Prydonian Academy.

Come on! Pull together for the Scarlet and Orange! :)

EDIT: When you enter the city and school name, there is an optional box for adding a URL. To explain to the (possibly) confused, poor sods at LJ what in Rassilon's name is going on, you are welcome to add the URL to the Wikipedia article on the Prydonian Academy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prydonian_Academy

Incidentally, the Wiki article could use some serious improvement. :)

EDIT II: As [info]lied_ohne_worte  commented, the people receiving these requests are local Irish volunteers, and a better way might be to submit a support request in the schools category, which I have now done. There is no need for anyone else to do so just now; so let's just sit tight and keep our fingers crossed!

Also, I want to say how your overwhelming response to this has made me feel all tingly and warm! :)

Just a thought...
How would one go about getting the Prydonian Academy added to LJ's Schools Directory? They've already got Hogwarts, Miskatonic University, Unseen University and the Xavier Institute, amongst others, so there shouldn't be a problem in theory, but what could one put for the location, I wonder...?
Alternatively, if they do have it already, where is it in the list?

Gallifrey Icons
Hello!

I've been searching for quite some time for the creator of a simply beautiful icon I once saw of Gallifrey, taken from the shots we saw in The Sound Of Drums.

I'd be endlessly grateful if anyone could tell me who made it so I could request to snag it. :)

Thank you,

Erya.

So here's a pseudo-scientific question
I've just enrolled in an astronomy course this semester to finish off my science requirement, and there has been much in the way of calculations and staring at various extraterrestrial objects.

So I've been wondering if the old series ever hints as to where Gallifrey was. I am, to my chagrin, a fan brought in by the new series rather than a more long-term person, and though I am doing my best to watch as much of the old series as I can, there's a lot of it to watch.

I'm not looking for a terribly specific answer--my main question is just whether the series takes place within the Milky Way, or if the Doctor and/or some of the other aliens are actually from another galaxy. This has some relevance for a story I'm working on, but I'm also just kind of curious. Space is, after all, ridiculously big.
