Quick question: Doctor Who in The Simpsons/Futurama?
I'm pretty sure someone here will know the answer to this!
Has there been a nod to Doctor Who (like they did for the X-Files) in either The Simpsons or Futurama? Hubby swears blind there has been, but I don't think so. Can I gloat mercilessly because I know far more about everything than he does, or should I crawl off somewhere and sulk?
Incidentally, I now really wish I could draw, because I have a truly wonderful mental image of Bender getting a Dalek drunk... *hee*

"Now for something completely different"
So a while ago I had a conversation with a friend about Doctor Who, and I told her that back in the 1980's Nevlana was going to produce a Doctor Who Cartoon (a family friend worked there and gave me sketches for my birthday a long time ago, I have since lost those sketches which would probably be worth some money now *sigh*).
Needless to say I wasn't believed.
But useing my all mighty Library Research skills and the help of the all mighty Wiki I was able to find the consept animation over on The Planet of the Doctor.
Voila la linky-link.

Random Doctor Who
I don't think anyone else has mentioned this, but I thought it was cute.
I feel like I have my friends trained pretty well when even the ones who don't watch Doctor Who catch references on TV.
As for really blatant ones on Cartoon Network...

The Last of the Time Lords goes DISNEY!
When I was watching 'The Last of the Time Lords,' that beginning scene immediately made me think of Disney... Aladdin in particular. Jafar... yeah. It's silly, but you get to listen to 'I Can't Decide' because it's a fabulous song.

If Doctor Who was an Anime
-Tegan, Romana and Peri will be able to pull mallets out of Hammer space. And they will bash the Doctor over the head with them.
-Four’s scarf will have a mind of it’s own and slither off to steal panties and lift skirts. Four will get blamed.
-Instead of Jelly Babies Four will offer people pocky.
-Romana II will wear a sailor Fuku
-Leela will have HUGE breasts.
-The Tardis can transform into a giant robot to do battle with the giant monsters/ The Master’s Tardis
-The Rani will have an annoying cackle
-Five will have awful luck and keep accidentally picking up Tegan or Nyssa’s panties or accidentally seeing them in a state of undress. He will blush, his nose will bleed, and Tegan will hit him with her mallet.
-There will be one episode where Five is changed into a girl by the Master (she will have no memory of being the Doctor) She will flirt with Turlough mercilessly.
-YOU thought Peri was scantily Dressed before and had annoying voice before. HAHAHA! Anime Peri makes her live-action counterpart look tame.
-Daleks will come out of their shell to tentacle rape people.

The Nelvana Doctor: An experiment in fanfic
Inspired by these two posts on
doctorwho, as well as this gallery on CBC, I hereby present the following one-off tale of … The Nelvana Doctor, the 1980s Doctor Who cartoon that almost was!
It turned out a bit more downbeat than I expected, but it's still safe for all ages, and yes, The Nelvana Doctor is voiced by Maurice LaMarche, simply because he looks like Egon Spengler from The Real Ghostbusters.

Hi, this may seem really dumb of me but I've seen people talk about 'The Infinate Quest' before but I dont actually know what it is, I take it that it's a Doctor Who thingymabob, but I'm not sure on what it is exactly. So if anyone could explain I'd love them forever in a truly platonic passing by kind of way :D

I am feeling very sad, doctorwhoites. I got a dvd of doctor who from the library, and was ever so excited. I bought popcorn, and had settled down with my mother, but it turned out to be scratched and broken. And there was much woe and sulking.
Another short chibi cartoon, in which the doctor clowns around. (Scribbling these up in art class is a perfectly sensible use of my time. Really.)

OK normarly I dont post about such things but I have to know. Does anyone know when they are goign to start airing the rest of the Sarah Jane Adventures? Also does anyone know if the K-9 Advetures is still a go(mind you I think this one is just a BAD idea, but I will watch it anyway)

Just a quick heads up before I slide into a pit of alcoholic despair: the online version of the magazine formerly known as DWB is up and running. The news section may prove of value, as they seem to be ahead of the game with a scoop on casting the animated series. It's also set to be an archive for the old mag. You might enjoy the following interview with Verity Lambert, The First Lady of Who:
'I rather liked the cantankerous bit for Doctor Who. That whole thing of not listening to people, getting them into terrible scrapes because he wouldn't listen, and always thinking he knew best. But when he was being sweet, he was quite touching and vulnerable.'

Some very interesting news...
According to The Mirror - which appears to have some Who-related credability right now, given that the broke the impressive S3 casting news - there's going to be a short animated Doctor Who series aired along with the next series of Totally Doctor Who, starring the Doctor and Martha. (Oh, and Anthony Stewart Head apparently has a part, too).
( DOCTOR TOON! )
Also, according to someone over at the OG, the actual paper has a picture from the cartoon. Scans would be muchly appreciated.
(Cross-posted a few places.)
ETA: And there's more about it on the official site. Also, picture!

Dear BBC,
You're a bunch of self absorbed wankers.
You've proven time and again that you don't give a flip about producing good DR WHO. Even as far back as 1980 since it was production, you had little faith and low standards for the show.
Everytime you sell a licenese for WHO production and then you discover that it is successful, you pull the plug on it, apparently because your suit wearing nimromds believe that you can produce the product in house and recoup a greater financial return. It matters not what the quality of the work is, as DR WHO fans are, in your eyes, "nerds in anoraks who'll eat up any product released on the market."
I cite the Virgin Books DR WHO Series as a prime example of a great product that got it's license pulled because it was successful. Obviously, wanting to recoup as much cash as possible while providing lame product, it took years before decent WHO novels were produced by BBC books.
Now, I see that you have ordered future webcasts to be discontinued because of the new WHO TV series.
While yes, hundreds of thousands of WHO fans world wide wait patiently for new TV adventures, is it really necessary to make fans wait an entire year for new DOCTOR WHO video product?
BBCi, having just won awards for SCREAM OF THE SHALKA, will now have no new programming until further notice and the fans of Britain's greatest hero will again wait quietly to have a bone thrown to them.
Gee thanks.
I imagine that as soon as Big Finish's license runs out that you will refuse to grant them renewal, because you will want to find a way to do audios yourself and keep all the money in your own pockets.
And, invariably, the audios will suck for the first couple of years, because you will be bringing on a whole new staff to produce them who has no clue how to tell DOCTOR WHO stories successfully.
But, of course, you will continue to release your catalog of DOCTOR WHO videos onto DVD, knowing that interested fans across the globe will pay out the nose for them, putting even more cash into the BBC coffers.
Yet, oddly enough, you won't let anyone who lives outside of the U.K. win any free DR WHO product in your giveaways.
Again, thanks.
You really are a bunch of wankers.
Most sincerely and with much love,
A pissed off DR WHO fan who is sick of your petty shit.

Damn!!!! This is fantastic!!!
The animation is topnotch. The eerie seetings, the mysterious monsters, an angry TimeLord.....WOW!
I think that Grant has done a great job so far with his role as The Doctor. I was kinda concerned due to the fact that he has never really watched Doctor Who...And I think that, within it self, brings an element that the series has needed. Not just another actor trying to fill in shoes...But a honest feel to the character.
And I sorta dig the theme.
What do you guys think???

Two questions
1) I was talking to my father the other night, telling him about the BBC's plans for the Ninth Doctor animated webcast. He thought it was cool, but asked me "If they're doing all that, why not just put it back on TV?" I then realized, I don't have an answer to that question. Does anyone know the reason?
2) By the end of November, every single televised adventure will have been released on VHS in America, except for one: The 1996 movie with Paul McGann. Why hasn't that been released here?

Catch me up to date please....
in light of the Ninth Doctor being "officially" annouced, I have a few questions that maybe you guys could help me with....
When they said animated do they mean a flash movie? Kinda like the re-vamp of Shada? or does it meant to be taking literal and animated being a cartoon? Kinda confused about this.
Also...I'm just now finishing "Mad Dogs And Englishmen" in the novels....I am reading them in order and buying them at a used book store mostly. Are they gonna have a story that includes the regeneration of McGann? Or does the new Doctor pick up in the middle of his adventures? I'm not asking for spoilers for I want to read the novels still...BUt, alot of questions are bombarding my head.
But, all in all I'm just glad that the adventures are continuing!!!!
