DW & SJA plot-bunnies, free to a good home ...
Some silly fic ideas my brain has come up with, open to anyone who's interested in using them ...

  1. Inspired by Joseph Millson's current stint on stage, Alan Jackson and Sarah Jane Smith decide to blow off some steam together by jointly trying out for the same community theater production ... and find themselves cast as lovers in a Shakespeare play (either as Romeo and Juliet, or, if you're feeling kinky, as Hamlet and Gertrude). Shippiness ensues.

  2. Sarah Jane and Donna Noble as Thelma & Louise, with Sarah Jane in the Susan Sarandon role, and Donna in the Geena Davis role. Honest to God, this literally came to me in a dream, but it was surprisingly detailed, right down to UNIT's Private Ross Jenkins (from the Season 4 Sontaran two-parter) in the Brad Pitt drifter role, and the Brigadier in the Harvey Keitel cop role. Yes, it's complete crack, but for reasons I can't even explain, it just ... feels right.

  3. The Young Sarah Jane Adventures. Join inquisitive, wounded 14-year-old school newspaper reporter Sarah Jane Smith, fresh from losing her best friend Andrea Yates, as she makes new friendships with gorgeous but slightly self-centered 15-year-old aspiring model Sylvia Mott, and awkward, book-smart 13-year-old "Harriet Jones, first-year student" *flashes her ID badge* at their all-girls school, and they alternate between bickering and solving mysteries together. Yes, it's Veronica Mars, Buffy and Scooby Doo. I still think it's cute.
So, any takers? :)

I'm picturing her with large, owlish glasses and her hair done up in a messy, scattered bun, chewing on pencils and devouring books on civics voraciously.

And at that time trying to do the right thing.

She never stopped trying to do what she honestly felt was the right thing.

If anybody, Sylvia would be the most changed. Back then, she probably told herself that she would never get married or have kids, because she didn't want to ruin her figure, and she might have been slightly ashamed of her father, who would return from tours of duty to visit her at her school, fussing over her in spite of her protestations.

I think that she would try and make Wilfred seem like he was higher ranked than he was.

She'd hiss at him to stop acting "working class," echoing her mother.

And meanwhile, a girl named Polly at the same school would develop a crush on Wilf, which would lead to her later attraction to sailors ...

Sylvia would be mean, but Sarah Jane would mentor the young Harriet. :)

Were girls really aspiring to be models in 1964? Until Twiggy hit the scene, modelling was seen as mostly upper-class. Sorry to sound so picky. ^^;

No, that's a fair point.

Basically, I was just sort of going for the shorthand way of saying "Sylvia Noble was a British Cordelia Chase when she was younger," and I added the bits about her not wanting kids, to avoid losing her model's figure, to explain her resentment toward Donna.

Maybe Sylvia's an aspiring actress with hopes of making it in Hollywood? :)

Through the closed windows of the newspaper office, Sarah Jane could hear the sounds of her classmates enjoying the bright sunshine. It was a lovely day and much as she might wish to be out-of-doors, it was simply easier to work alone than to face the reproach of her peers. It had been months, but it was still felt that Sarah Jane was somehow responsible for the death of Andrea Yates. As laughter filtered in through the panes of glass, Sarah Jane shook herself out of her thoughts and returned to her work.

She had just begun on the last paragraph of her piece, her pencil growing dull from use, when there came a quiet tap on the door. Sarah Jane looked up to see a smaller girl standing there, all knobly knees and elbows. A fringe of hair covered the tops of large, owlish glashes that dominated her face.

"Hello," Sarah Jane said politely. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

The younger girl took a step forward before nervously flashing her school card. "Harriet Jones, first year student."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Harriet," said Sarah Jane, who suddenly wanted to smile. "I'm Sarah Jane Smith." She paused, before impishly adding, "Second year."

Harriet smiled then, a real smile, and Sarah Jane responded in kind. "I know who you are," said Harriet. In a sudden fit of motion, the younger girl pulled a chair up to the other side of Sarah Jane's desk and sat down. With no further preamble, she started speaking.

"I think Sylvia Mott's fixed the elections. Don't interupt me or I'll never finish. I don't have any proof, except that I overhead her speaking to one of her little followers about winning at all costs and you have to admit, it seemed as if Jenny Cofield had it in the bag."

Sarah Jane frowned. "Hadn't we best bring this to a teacher?" But Harriet was already shaking her head vehemently.

"They're all hopelessly in love with Miss Sylvia Mott and without any proof, no one would ever believe me. Except that... I'd hoped you might. At least long enough to help me find out if it's true."

Sarah Jane hesitated again, the thoughts of dealing with former peers making her uncomfortable. "Look, I'm really not sure if I'm the right person for this..."

"Oh but don't you see," said Harriet passionately, "no one else even thinks that anything could be wrong and I'm just an awkward first year. No one will even speak to me, I've tried." She looked and sounded frustrated and Sarah Jane felt a pang of sympathy for the younger girl. She set down her pencil, mind suddenly made up.

"Alright then, Harriet Jones. Let's get down the bottom of this."

I love this so much. It just made my afternoon. :)

"Don't interupt me or I'll never finish."

This in particular got to me because not only is it spot-on Harriet, but it feels like a summation of some universal truth for women in politics, and/or for the smart, shy folks who have trouble asserting themselves in front of their peers. Very well done!

I can't help but think of this young Harriet (and I could see multiple paths leading to the woman we get to know) as one who gets along well with adults, is able to speak at their level, but is a little bit hopeless with her peers. I'm glad it came across!
