One of the marked differences between Classic Who and New Who is the role of the Doctor to his companions. Companions of the Doctor have always been made better people because of the Doctor, but in Classic Who, the Doctor was more of a father figure and mentor to his companions rather than New Who’s companions who are treated more as potential romantic companions or at the very least lifelong travel companions. I don’t think there’s anything particularly wrong with the more emotionally charged New Who, but as i watched the series four finale this past weekend, it made me realize how Russell’s more emotional treatment of New Who over the past four years corners some of the writing into a path that’s hard to wrestle away from.

I'm not sure if this has already been addressed, but I was watching the Doctor Who Confidential episode "The End of an Era," and I wondered if any of you knew what songs were used in the ep? FIC: Abduction? [4/?]
I've been working for a year on these stories with the Doctor and an original character called Alice McAlister, for now there had been all these stories written: Cannibals from Another World, Bring me Back (Ten/Rose reunion fan fic before this "finale"), Signs of a New War, Choices, Merry Christmas Rose Tyler, Is It Legal Having Sex With a Time Lord?, The Curse of the Companions - Yes, I've really written all those.

I'm Spanish and had to deal with a Microsof Word that didn't want to correct my mistakes, so sorry for them. Also my style is quite simple because as I'm not native English, dialogues are ok with me but narration and descriptions don't come easily. I tried my best.

Everyone else has written their own review, so I thought I would too. I was tempted to write one straight after watching Journey's End, but decided to sleep on it and write something with a clear head.
There were so many brilliant things in this episode, there are too many to mention. But, without spoiling anyone - Catherine Tate, you have outdone yourself. If there was any doubt about your acting ability before, there isn't now. David Tennant was as brilliant as always, but I wanted to single out Catherine specifically.
Now, here's my review to add to the millions of others!

"Now for something completely different"
So a while ago I had a conversation with a friend about Doctor Who, and I told her that back in the 1980's Nevlana was going to produce a Doctor Who Cartoon (a family friend worked there and gave me sketches for my birthday a long time ago, I have since lost those sketches which would probably be worth some money now *sigh*).
Needless to say I wasn't believed.
But useing my all mighty Library Research skills and the help of the all mighty Wiki I was able to find the consept animation over on The Planet of the Doctor.

Guardian letters page - Doctor Who special
I was reading the letters page of the Guardian (UK newspaper), and came across this. But to my astonishment, I found also this (the name, plus the reference to considerable age, makes it almost a dead cert that it is indeed Mr Letts).
Old Who and new Who together on the same page? No coincidence, surely. I think the letters editor is a bit of a Who nut.

A question about the EDA novels...
At the time the Eighth Doctor novels launched, I didn't really get into them. I read The Eight Doctors and Vampire Science, then decided I would stick to just picking up the odd Past Doctor novel. Recently though, I've been thinking of starting into them again - now seems a good time, with a virtually Wholess year ahead.
I'm just wondering if anyone who has read through the series could do me a favour and give some idea (two lists would be ideal, but time-consuming - I understand) of which books are 'skippable' and which aren't. Basically I want to know if there are any stand-alone novels which don't contribute at all to the ongoing story of The Eighth Doctor, so that I can make a buying list accordingly.
