| *I say Non spoilery because I still haven't been able to see Waters of Mars and I'm trying to avoid spoilers for *sniffles* the last two specials/S5* I was posting an answer to a discussion on betterwiththree concerning fic with the Eleventh Doctor in it, and that got me to wondering, since I'm still having trouble accepting Matt Smith as the Doctor. So I as this is my first regeneration so to speak (I came in the door through Torchwood first, and fell for Ten first, but I love Nine, and recently Four just as much), I thought I would put the question out there to Old (and New) Who fans alike. When your Doctor regenerated did you have trouble accepting the new Doctor? Were you resentful because your Doctor left? Or did you fall just as much for the new Doctor as you did 'your' or 'first' Doctor? | |

| Midway through Genesis of the Daleks, the Doctor (as played by Tom Baker) has the opportunity to destroy all of the Daleks in one fell swoop. He has a wonderful soliloquy about whether or not he has the right to destroy an entire species, even if they're the Daleks.
If I were there, the conversation would have been a lot shorter:
Doctor: holds bomb wires in each hand Dare I have the right?
Me: Yup! yoinks wires away from the Doctor, blows up Dalek nursery
I suspect I'd have gotten along a little better with Nine...

| I have just returned from my work's Christmas meal: there was a fancy-dress theme of "any character from stage, screen or book" and there were many impressive efforts from couples such as Shrek and Fiona, Popeye and Olive (and three month old baby as Swee' Pea), and Pooh Bear and A Bee.
I was seated next to a colleague's boyfriend: he eventually revealed that with the (black?) suit, trainers, gelled hair and umbrella(?) he was the tenth Doctor and my colleague was Rose. He expressed embarassment at having to walk to the restaurant in such outrageous attire.
Given that I had walked to the venue dressed as Noel Coward And His Time Travelling Pinking Shears from the BBC Eighth Doctor Novel "Mad Dogs and Englishmen", I had little sympathy.
Edit Also "Rose"'s mum was Matt Smith's teacher

| Just before the end of school today, the teacher that I work with appeared with a calculator and asked me what pi was. He said he wanted to find out what the square root of that was.
I asked which child requested the information, and then asked said child, "Have you watched 'Midnight' recently"?
They nodded sheepishly.
I then had to explain to the teacher what the significance was, as he does not watch Doctor Who.

| Hi all! My name is Gwen... I used to be a relatively active poster here before college took over my life. But now I'm back and would really, really appreciate your help on a school project that I'm doing. I plan to write a thesis arguing that fandoms (yes, I'm writing a paper on fandoms) mirror in many ways naturally occuring 'folk groups', which are groups like coal miners or German-Americans in Virginia... pretty much any contained group with a shared history and culture. If you'd like to help, please just take a look under the cut and answer a few quick questions about your participation in the DW fandom! Mods, I completely understand if this is uncool, but if this needs to be deleted I beg you to please at least give me time to record any responses I might have already gotten. I hope it's okay that I'm posting this, though, because I chose this com because I remember it being active and friendly. Anyway, that said... ( Help me get an A in this class! ) | |

| Since the writer Christopher Bailey put religious themes (Buddhist mainly)in the episodes I am doing a paper on the eps I would appreciate anything you notice or even just general comments on what you like/dislike about the eps.
If you know what scenes in particular were cut out or altered from the script(ex: toning down on Janets sexy acting, the ending scene with the two guys holding hands was cut,The mara made to be more like a demon possessing people than bringing out things that were already there.
Also, does anyone have contact info for Bailey?

| So we're catching up on the DVR, and we're watching the Doctor's tale of how several lives ago he had an affair with Marian of Locksley, while Nick Cutter was investigating the murder of Ida Scott as a result of the accident that killed Annie Sawyer. That is, we're watching Collision starring Paul McGann, Lucy Griffiths, Douglas Henshall, Claire Rushbrook and Leonora Crichlow, as introduced on Masterpiece Contemporary by David Tennant. I haven't seen the second half yet, but I guess you could say Maid Marion has lost her right to her nickname ... | |

| Title: Epic Struggle Characters: TARDIS, Ten, Adelaide (Chapter 1), Jack (Chapter 4), Elizabeth I (Chapter 5), Ood Sigma (Chapter 6) Spoilers: Doctor Who: Waters of Mars and Children in Need 2009 Special and Torchwood: Children of EarthAuthor Notes: Chapter 2: There's currently no description/indication of what the Phosphorous Carousel in the Great Magellan Gestalt is... so I've taken the meaning of the words and decided what it is **grins** This is born out of a little dialogue with tempusdominus10 (well sort of, it was peculating for awhile, just didn't get around to starting it until that happened) Chapter 3: Special thanks to anomoly_fetish for guiding me through the end. Chapter 4: So as not to be seen a plagiarizing myself: This is based on (and some lifted from) a scene that was originally written for Heart of the TARDIS story. It was told more from Jack's POV in that story, here it's more from the Doctor's. Also, I'm taking some creative liberties, since we don't know how/when things happen in the Doctor's personal time-line... But since it's already a "Fixed Point" in my other story, there's a little "fix-it" going on here. Disclaimer: I dream every night about owning it, but for now, I settle for writing fanfiction. 1: From Mars To Earth: How the TARDIS responds to the Time Lord Victorious. 2: The Great Magellan Gastalt: How deep the rabbit hole the Doctor has created really goes 3: A Red Carnivorous Mole: He really DID get himself into trouble that time. 4: Named a Galaxy Alison: Why Alison of all names? 5: Her Nickname is No Longer: What really happened between Good Queen Bess and the Doctor? 6: Try to Make an Ood Laugh: The journey to the Ood-Sphere | |

| All right folks, I'm an Alaskan Whovian of going on a year, into the classic, the reboot and the spin-offs and pretty much everything remotely related to it.
In June I'm making my first Pilgrimage to Britain (Not entirely because of the Doctor...of COURSE...no, really...) and I'm planning on geeking out at Roald Dahl Plass, going to see the Doctor Who Exhibition in Cardiff and buying a big tub of those wonderful-illegal-in-the-U.S.-because-they're-carcinogenic-Jelly Babies.
My question for the wonderful experts here is whether there are any other big sites of awesomeness/pilgrimage I'm missing? Anything and Everything, no matter how obscure welcome!!

| SPACE have confirmed both parts of The End of Time will be broadcast in Canada on Saturday 2nd January 2010.
The final two episodes of David Tennant's tenure as The Doctor will be transmitted back to back with Part One at 8pm and Part Two starting at 9.20pm. Both episodes will be preceded by a repeat of the first three specials, The Next Doctor, Planet of the Dead and The Waters of Mars making a total of seven hours of Doctor Who on the channel.
And if that is not enough Doctor Who, the entire series of Torchwood Children of Earth will be shown earlier in the day.

| Hey all! I was wondering if the lovely people in the community could help me out with something...
I'm going to London for a university trip (I go to University of Connecticut, sadly) from Dec. 29-Jan. 14... the focus of the trip is "Arts in England," and the point is that we're writing a long term paper on something we encounter in London and will work on throughout the next semester back in the U.S.
So, I'm trying to convince the professors to let me do the paper on our beloved television series Doctor Who, trying to explain the significance of "The End of Time" (well, part 2) since I'll be in England when it plays.
My question is... does anyone know of anything I can physically go to while I'm in London to support this? I mean, in my opinion there should be a Ten public mourning :)
Secondly, does anyone have ideas on a topic? My lovely doctorate student boyfriend suggested discussing how not only is Doctor Who a huge part of British culture, but it has actually written itself into it (i.e. Love's Labour's Won, Agatha Christie, Dickens) -- I'll assume do to page restraint etc, I'll probably just focus on the new series...
Thanks so much for your help! I come to you guys first because you are the experts, of course :D (Also, if anyone, esp UK-ers, have places I should check out on my free time, that would be great too!!!)
