| I needed something to distract myself until The Waters of Mars. So I did a little Ten picspam. I know there are still two episodes left for Ten, but I just felt like it. :D Spoilers for The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith. Allons-y! | |
|
| Where did the term "Lonely God" originate? ( Also, everyone's got a big, wet, opinion )
One final thought: if you look at certain incarnations as a reaction to the prior one (i.e. Two's enthusiasm vs. One's stodginess; Four's lightheartedness vs. Three's work ethic; Seven's single-minded crusade vs. Six's aimless raging; etc.), then what will Eleven become?

| Hello! I have never posted to this group before. I am fairly new and have been lurking for a little while. I have a little funny for you all in the midst of all this Waters of Mars talk happening. | |
|
| Okay, so FIRST - I haven't seen Waters of Mars. I know as much about it as the trailers and David Tennant's stint on Jonathan Ross' radio show tells me. But I do have a question that I'd like answered if possible, that I'll stick behind a cut just in case. | |
|
| This occured to me earlier this evening and a few hours ago, someone brought it up in one of my comms.
Is anyone else the least freaked out watching Waters of Mars only a few short days after they discovered water on the moon?

| Title: The Planet of Cats, Hats, and Fairytales Author: Cat Pairing: Doctor/Donna Rating: G Prompts used (courtesy of time_converges during my earlier prompt call) : color, sunlight, lush Note: Also written with the aid of Write or Die and soothing Lisa Loeb and Common Rotation music playing. Hmmm. This is quite fluffy, you're warned, but at the same time it makes my heart ache a bit. | |

| Firstly, in celebration of Waters of Mars, some fanart - constructive crit welcome! ( Cut for dail-up murdering pictures )Aaaalso, on an entirely unrelated note. I was watching endless repeats of Mock the Week, as is my slightly tragic wont. And they had a section called "things you wouldn't hear in a war film", and for three of them made me think instantly of Jack. ( Cut for NSFW ) | |
|

| More from Michael Moorcock on his forthcoming Who novel:1) I've been watching Dr Who since it began. Haven't liked all the doctors and after Peter Davison stopped watching regularly until the new BBC Wales series. 2) Since the Tom Baker series, a lot of my ideas crept into the stories and so in many ways I'll be writing a story which already echoes my own work. (Possibly he's talking about the White/Black Guardian, Order/Chaos stuff?) 3)I do have to submit it to editors so they can make sure it fits into the canon and this, of course, is understandable. By saying it wasn't a tie-in I did, of course, mean that it would be an original novel, not one which was linked to previous stories.
I share an enthusiasm for the current Dr Who broadcasts with quite a few friends who are 'literary' novelists and I sense in some of the Gallifrey remarks (someone showed him some comments from Gallifrey Base) a suspicion of the 'outsider' which you used to get when someone with a reputation as a non-sf writer would decide to write an sf novel. All I can answer to this is 'wait and see'. I'm certainly not a non-watcher! Neither am I someone who ascribes a kind of religiosity to an enthusiasm. This phenomenon crops up a lot, these days associated with sf/fantasy, LOTR, H.Potter, Twilight and so on. I hate these presumptions of exclusivity either in my own corner of the literary world or elsewhere. Mike Kustow, once director of the Royal Shakespeare Co, described this as 'the anxious ownership syndrome', when faced with his first confrontation with sf fandom in Brighton 1968. He'd found the same sort of expression with Shakespeare fans when someone from 'outside' showed an interest.
I've been asked to write Dr Who scripts or stories almost since the series began, because I was known to enjoy Dr Who. Only recently did the time feel right to me to do one. I'm going to enjoy that, too.

| When watching the Mona Lisa's little runabout on SJA, was I the only person who was wondering: what about the other six? (Was is six? I can't remember exactly how many copies there were...) And also, surely the Doctor and Romana would have noticed traces of alien energy in the paint! :P | |

| Alright ladies and gents, the big day is here!
I figured I'd start a little countdown post where people can titter excitedly and then once the show airs we can talk about all the goods and bads and uglies.
So, if my calculations are correct, we're at about T-8 hours.
HOORAY!
Ready go: | |

| Hello everyone! I'm coming out of hiding to post my newest autograph. I collect autographs as a hobby. A few of them are from meeting actors in person, but of them are from writing letters. I decided to write to all the major players from the newest incarnation of Doctor Who, including all three Doctors, companions, and random characters that I enjoyed. I sent them out starting in September and I finally got one back today! ( Who is it? ):-) | |

| Title: OK Doc Characters: 9th Doctor and Rose Author: betawho Rating: PG Note: This is a Doctor Who Western.
Summary: The Doctor and Rose return to Tombstone, Arizona, site of the gunfight at the OK Corral. This time it isn't the cowboys causing the trouble, but an ancient Hopi Indian spirit. The feud between the Earps and the Clantons is hoting up, babies are dying, spring is late and the Tombstone silver mine has just collapsed.
It's up to the Doctor and his new friends to stop the spirit causing all the problems, and prevent an alien invasion. Because there's a secret buried under Tombstone. And it's waking up.
Story starts here.
Chapter 11 here.
(Did I mention the Doctor's all decked out in a leather duster and cowboy hat, like a gunfighter?)

| I'm writing a Doctor fic and I have a few questions for those of you in the UK.
1. What level of education is Donna most likely to have.
2. Is there something like a school/class reunion for graduates such as Donna?
3. What is it called and when are they usually held?
Thanks, in advance.

| The post about the Mona Lisa's less-than-genteel 'northern' accent reminded me of a problem I have with all of the Doctors. Being an American I have a tin ear when it comes to English accents. Unless Bert the Chimneysweep or Queen Elizabeth is talking to me I can't hear any difference in accents at all.
I understand #9 has a northern accent and #7's isn't supposed to be English anyway but what about the rest? If any one of them were talking to a stranger in a bar pub, what would that stranger assume (wrongly) about the Doctor and his background? Other than "This man's clearly escaped from his keeper."
I'm especially interested in #6 for a fic I'm writing. He sounds so incredibly smug and snooty, does his accent match?

| 'The Waters of Mars' is supposed to be on tonight, right? But my TV schedule says 'The Voyage of the Damned' is going to be on instead. I hope it's a mistake and 'Waters of Mars' will be the one aired. | |

| The Graham Norton Show with David Tennant will air tonight on BBCamerica. Not seen it mentioned before. | |

| ...I find myself not only wondering about the 10th Doctor's final days, but the Doctor's final days in general. He only has 13 lives,, and he's getting up there in age...Romana even comented once on how terribly quickly he goes through his regenerations, and unless the time lords/gallifrey are brought back, he will one day, eventually, die. For good. It's not something pleasant to think about : ( Even in the comic relief ep "The Curse of the Fatal Death" the Doctor went through all his regenerations and at the end it was said that even the universe couldn't bear to live without the Doctor. So my question is this; Even though it's in the distant future, and some people may debate the show will be cancelled before then, what will happen when his final regeneration comes along? Do you think he will be given more regenerations, or finally die? And if he does die, do you think they would start the entire series over? o__O I dunno, it's a long ways off and makes me cringe, but I can't help thinking about it. What are your opinions? : ) | |
|
| I was watching Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead today, and I was wondering about something.
When River Song first sits down the Doctor to compare notes and figure out where in their personal timeline they are, she asks him if he's experienced a couple of things, Byzantium, I think, and Asgard. So, this implies that they have these particular adventures while he's in his tenth incarnation, right? Even if their relationship spanned several regenerations, it certainly seemed like she spent a pretty good portion of time with him as his Tenth regeneration. So, knowing there's a regeneration coming up soon, when does this happen, exactly?
Maybe this has all been discussed before so I apologize if this is going over old stuff, but I'm a new fan, so it's all new to me. Did the writers know at the time that they wrote those episodes that David Tennant was going to be leaving?
Oooh, and another thing -- is there any one Doctor Who podcast out there that I should absolutely be listening to?

| The rewatch now reaches the first Jon Pertwee story, the first colour story, the first to feature the autons and the first story in this rewatch penned by Robert Holmes (of which there are six). It achieved the rating of 80.56%, placing it at number 36.
But what do you think? Please post your reviews, comments and thoughts here. All are welcome
Next week will be Inferno.

| I continue to plunder your childhood, but this time I thought I'd reach back a little further. I've been going a little too easy on the old-timers! ( F.A.B.! ) | |
|
| I have a particular fondness for the laceless/slipon Converses however I couldn't find any in stores. So I went on their website and decided to custom make my own. They arrived today. I got them in "TARDIS blue" and had them stitch "TIME LORD" on the sides. :) ( Phonecam pics within )Mom doesn't like the color. It's the color of the TARDIS to me (the other blue looked too dark on the computer screen). | |

| This post comes to you courtesy of Ma thehornedgod, an avid viewer of such programmes as The Graham Norton Show. David Tennant was on this week, and she alerted me to the bit where a fan in the audience who answers a question about The Mind Robber gets to ask David a question of his own. Unfortunately David doesn't remember the fan from the set of Daleks in Manhattan, the fan snaps at David, and Johnny Vegas gets involved... The rest of the show is behind the cut, but the audience participation starts at about 6:30 on the second video. ( Read more... )( Read more... ) | |

| Looks like it's official. I'll be doing a new Dr Who novel (not a tie-in) for appearance, I understand, by next Christmas. Still have to have talks etc. with producers and publishers but we should be signing shortly. Should be fun.Who's saying that? Why, Michael Moorcock of course! Rather a big deal. Any fans in the house? | |
