New DNAngel chapter...s! (2 this time XD)
Got caught up in real life and a series of reports I had to make for other fandoms, but I'm still working on DNAngel! I just picked up the May and June copies of Asuka today and speed-read the latest chapters, AND HOLY CRAP.
HO.LY.CRAP.
Some BIG BIG BIG revelations get made! HUGE. THAT MEANS SPOILERS, MMMMK?? For the readers who last left us, Daisuke and Satoshi have teamed up and are inside the tower where Argentine is holding Risa, trying to work their way past the many traps that have been set by the Hikari artwork. The last chapter ended with Argentine realizing that he and Risa are connected, and that he may possibly have feelings for her, he just doesn't realize what it means, because he doesn't know how to love anything, being very much like a child himself.
Daisuke and Satoshi reach a strange room, whose safe passage Satoshi tells Daisuke is to step only on the stones illuminated by the moonlight. Daisuke asks what will happen if he slips up, and he's told that the room's "Guardian" will appear. Deciding he doesn't really want to know what this guardian is, Daisuke takes a whack at it, nimbly jumping from space to space like the flighty little Niwa he is.
But something's wrong, and when he reaches a pausing point, even though he's not stepped outside of the light, a huge statue comes to life, wielding a very big, very scary sword. Elsewhere, Argentine shoots to attention, and Risa asks what's wrong. His only response is a devious smile, "...They've come..." Daisuke asks what's going on--he didn't step into the shadows! Argentine's apparently set a trap for them.
Satoshi orders Daisuke to run as fast as he can, forget about the right steps, and just get to the next level. Daisuke does so, but turns to see if Satoshi's behind him, and instead sees the other boy just standing, not even moving, in front of the thing.
Except it's not Satoshi anymore. It's someone a lot meaner, a lot crazier, and a lot blonder. And the Guardian has somehow been destroyed in an instant. "How vulgar...you need to learn your place!" Yush, a very pretty Krad is baaaaaaack~

"How vulgar..."
Daisuke recognizes him immediately, and Dark is already ranting to be let out, that Daisuke doesnt' stand a chance against him. Krad is all manners for the moment, though: "Well well, to think I'd meet you here...what a coincidence...!" And slams Daisuke into a wall. Okay, forget what I said about manners.
Inside Krad, though, Satoshi is fighting--and winning--for control over his body. "How rude...and I simply wish to protect you..." Satoshi is having none of it: I don't need to borrow your power, I'm a Hikari! And THIS. IS. MY. BODY. With an impressive show of strength, Satoshi actually manages to push Krad back, taking his body back on his own, and displaying the characteristic white wings.
Daisuke marvels at the wings, remembering when he grew his own before, and is amazed Satoshi is able to stand the pain. Satoshi pulls himself up, and tells Daisuke not to worry, that they can go on now. Daisuke is having none of it, though, and makes Satoshi sit down and rest, taking off his sweater and wrapping Satoshi in it.

Satoshi: "Don't worry about it...I'm fine now. Let's go."
Daisuke: "No! Just--just stay still for a minute...!"
Satoshi gives in, and they pause and rest. Daisuke finally asks Satoshi outright why he's helping him, one who's supposed to be his enemy, and wonders if it's because they're friends. Satoshi says yes...and that he'd like to say that's the ONLY reason, but he also feels it's his responsibility to stop Argentine, because the artwork is magical, like Dark and Krad within them. His ancestors tried to destroy Argentine before, but something called him back. Daisuke is glad that Satoshi's finally telling him the truth.
He talks about how he feels that he's been able to come this far because Satoshi's there with him--he feels so helpless. Even though the two are complete opposites, at times he feels like they're so close. Why, he wonders, is it this way?
Satoshi stands silently, and when Daisuke looks at him for an explanation, he comments he spent his whole life avoiding being connected to anyone. Because to be connected to someone meant you had something to lose, and that frightened him. And now...he's running out of time.
Daisuke is confused--what does he mean running out of time?
Satoshi: "My family...is short-lived. My mother died at a young age herself, and so I probably...don't have much time left."
Daisuke is frantic--shaking Satoshi by the shoulders--"What--what are you talking about?! 'Short-lived'?! Why are you talking like that?! HEY! You're lying, right?!"

Satoshi: "...I wish I could say I was."
Daisuke: "...This can't be happening..."
DUN DUN DUUUUUUN!!!!!
That's the end of the April installment--next is May's!

Satoshi: "My family...is short-lived."
Daisuke breaks down, refusing to accept that Satoshi doesn't have long left to live. Satoshi returns that this is probably punishment for his family, or their real curse. Daisuke is confused--their curse? Satoshi explains that, originally, the Hikari clan wasn't horribly special, a simple family of artists of all sorts. But there was one born among them who was a genius, and over time his paintings became bathed in madness. He threw away everything trying for something greater and grander, he wanted to give LIFE to his work.
And then, he sold his soul to a demon to gain the Forbidden Technique. He tried many times, over and over, trying to create the perfect artwork to embue life within--whether it was the power of a god or a demon, his ancestor was driven mad by this ability.
Some of the artworks were quite strange--Towa, Freedert and the Toki no Byoushin. It was as if they really were alive. They had powers, and awareness, they were beings and not things. And the ones who targeted these artworks...were Daisuke's ancestors.
Perhaps they were just captivated by the Hikari artworks, whatever their reasons, the Hikari clan gave them life, and the Niwa clan stole them--it was a neverending battle.

Satoshi: "And even while fighting, our past selves always sought each other the most."
Satoshi's ancestor had finally produced the perfect artwork to give life--Koku Yoku, the Black Wings. It had taken months, years to perfect, and he was going to finish it then and there with the Forbidden Technique. But at the last final moment, the defining instant when he was to give life to the work, the Kaitou appeared!
The ceremony was ruined, and the magic was incomplete, with nowhere to go, so it went wild, and attacked the Hikari and Niwa ancestors. Koku Yoku became Krad in the Hikari clan, and Dark in the Niwas.

Satoshi: "It was cut in two, and sealed away within their bodies."

Satoshi: "And this...is you and me, now."
THE EEEEEEND!!! OMG. OH. MYGOD. AAAAAAHHHHHH. I HAVE NO WORDS. SATOSHI DYING. THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW DARK AND KRAD REALLY CAME ABOUT. HIKARI AND NIWA ANCESTORS ARE MMMMMMM GOOD LOOKING. GAUIHLSIUFHLSIDUFHSLIDUHFSIDFHSLID
I NEED TO TAKE A BREAK NOW.
