| About: | As you may have guessed, this is a comm modeled after ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif){kind=small} fanficrants, but specifically for rants regarding Death Note fandom/fanworks.THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS THIS: no bashing. That is not a joke. No bashing individual people. No bashing pairings and characters. You don't like Ryuk x the president of America? Whatever, man, that's cool. But don't rant about how "ZOMG THIS PAIRING SUCKS AND EVERYBODY WHO WRITES IT SUCKS TOO!!1!11", please. If you manage to find fic for something as cracked-out as that, rant about the fic itself and how the pairing was executed, if it was executed badly. (Obviously, this applies to... certain more popular pairings, cough cough.) Rant about OOCness, rant about plot holes, rant about canon-rape, rant about implausibility and so on. But do not rant about principles. A fic in which Light paints little red hearts all over Near's body and frolics in the meadow with him afterwards? ... well, uh. It could be done. Maybe. Possibly. What it comes down to is this: rant about the execution, not the principle. To unpack that idea a bit more... it's A-okay to rant about how people seem to ignore a very large obstacle to X pairing; to talk about how Z pairing really wouldn't believably have Y sort of relationship (mushy and lovey, stable, rapetastic, insert adjective of choice here) without a lot of whacky development; or just to rant about sucky fic for a pairing. What it comes down to is this: don't rant about how, say, Matt/Near is illogical and could never work and what the hell are you people smoking. Rant about fics which have Matt/Near with no explanation or build-up, who write fics which don't address the fact that Near is practically a robot and why exactly would Matt be interested in him and vice-versa? etc. etc. Also, no bashing individual people. Ever. You might think so-and-so is a sick, perverted fuck for writing their gross nasty yaoi/het/WatarixL/whatever fic, but this is not the place to say it, mmkay? At the least, no naming specific names; also, please no rants where it's incredibly obvious that you're targeting a specific person and so on. They just cause ridiculous, unneeded wank. One last thing to keep in mind is that if you're ranting about the finer points of characterization and canon and those sort of finicky things -- people may disagree with you and they are entitled to do so. The mods are not going to support you if you throw a tantrum just because someone had the gall to disagree with your rant, bawwww. In fact, you know? People are fully entitled to come in here believing that Light is secretly a neon green elephant named Elphebashar. You may disagree heartily, but so long as personal attacks aren't involved, it's all good. 1) No personal attacks, not on a ficwriter or fanartist, not on another commenter. This includes saying "anybody who thinks/writes/draws X is a pervert/idiot/insert perjorative of choice here". You will get warned ONCE for doing this, and then, wabam, banhammer'd. 2) No ship/character-bashing. This means: you may dislike a ship or a character, but that doesn't mean that either is horrible in principle, nor that everybody else should dislike said ship/character etc. etc. etc. 3) Disagreement is par for the course. Don't get your panties in a wad over it. If you think that the discussion is wandering into the area of personal attacks, CONTACT A MOD, instead of stooping to the same level, please. 4) The mods have the ultimate authority to interpret the rules and lay down the law as they say fit. I will say this straight-up: we will be modding this comm the way we see fit. I like to think that we are not idiots, and we are rational people who can handle discussions about our policies and methods. Get in touch with us, if you have an issue! We don't bite! However, ultimately the authority to freeze threads, delete posts, and warn/ban people does rest with us and that's just the way it is. Keep in mind that our ultimate goal is to keep this place relatively civil and stop it from devolving into a wankfest, and instead maintain it as a platform to vent frustrations and, hopefully/possibly, have some interesting discussions. And crack and fun and all that good stuff. 5) No flame-baiting, wank-baiting... generally, please don't be a douchenozzle.
